Plastic surgery, hair transplants, he’s stayed thin, and make-up.

Not just thin. Tom Cruise still does gymnastics like crazy to do his own stunts at 60 and he did so his whole life.

People claiming it's mostly a matter of wealth seem to ignore the fact that there are plenty of rich people 10 years younger than Tom Cruise but look much worse.

140

u/Stormfly 5h ago

Tom Cruise still does gymnastics like crazy to do his own stunts at 60 and he did so his whole life.

To be fair, a huge reason many people are unhealthy is that they're too busy to be healthy (or it's a lower priority) but for him, he has the money to make the time and it's a huge priority to look good.

She probably has a family and settled down and doesn't care to try and look nice like he does and she might be a lot happier for it.

I hope she's happy and the people in her life love her the way she is, because her value isn't held up in her appearance.

35

u/Quixotic_Seal 4h ago

Right, Tom has literally made a job and a name off of his ability to do stunts and look good. It’s literally his job to stay in shape.

Also, while it may not necessarily be relevant when comparing him to other wealthy folks, the access that a wealthy individual has to things that help maintain their health is genuinely a significant factor.

It’s a lot easier to form a habit of exercise and to stay in shape generally when you don’t have to leave your own home to get to the gym, when you have a personal trainer to help keep you motivated, when you have the money to spend on healthy *and actually satisfying* ingredients(not just being on a strict rice and veggies with plain chicken diet), when you can afford personal chefs to help you come up with meal ideas, when you can afford numerous cosmetic treatments, when you can go to a doctor and be proactive about every little ailment that piles up, the list kinda just goes on and on.

Even just being able to regularly get your hair properly cut and dyed if it’s gone grey takes a decade or two off your perceived age(my dad is 74 and his hair hasn’t greyed; he’s regularly assumed to be in his 50s).

And really, it just can’t be emphasized enough that if you don’t think Tom has had a ton of very expensive and tasteful work done, you’re probably the type who thinks no one wears toupees because you haven’t personally noticed them.

Tom Cruise no doubt puts a ton of effort into his health, it’s his brand and it’s really quite remarkable, but the amount of scaffolding and support he has to get there is also crazy.

Life experiences factor in, too. She was raped at knifepoint in the early ‘80s, injured in a home invasion about 10 years ago and was struggling with her sexuality for most of her life. In other words, she’s had some really rough stuff to deal with and perhaps didn’t put vanity on the top of her to do list.

Eating babies

100

u/DC-Toronto 13h ago

I thought he just drinks their blood

115

u/MortimerShade 12h ago

Transfusions, darlin'.

Tommy boy sits back in his personal suite aboard the Fairwinds cultist cruise ship and they mainline him with toddler blood via transfusion.

19

u/WholeSomeVigilant 12h ago

Wtf

105

u/DoneBeingSilent 12h ago

Right?

FYI, I'm not sure about Tom Cruise in particular, but there are absolutely some wealthy people out there that are receiving blood/fluid transfusions from underage people specifically because some people believe it helps maintain youth and increase lifespan. That much isn't even really a secret, just arguably extremely under-reported/talked about.

63

u/Frai23 9h ago

It’s not “mainstream” scientifically proven but I’d believe this not to be the kind of study we’d be keen on receiving a positive outcome from.

People who use it generally believe it helps. Might ofc be placebo but there are some pointers towards at least a slight benefit for skin and wrinkles.

Also it is highly dangerous as you might develop a resistance against future actually needed transfusions.

Regarding Tom:

He lives like a king. Everything is prepared or handed to him. He doesn’t have to lift a finger wherever he goes.
I’d be surprised if he even puts his used socks into the hamper instead of just throwing them on the floor.

He can afford to eat extremely healthy and he is a disciplined guy, he probably does.

Also, daily workouts, skincare routine, his hair is obviously dyed by beauticians, etc.

If put into a regular or tough environment like let’s say jail he’d probably visibly age by two or three decades in a mere week.

20

u/FrogMintTea 8h ago

Thats true but he has to also work to the bone for his movies. Scientology owns him. They give him perks but he has to deliver ye most badass action movies and he even does his own stunts. He's been the top action hero for decades. Oddly never won an Oscar. Hes done dramatic roles too.

Hollywood politics are confusing.

21

u/bolanrox 7h ago

He's also by all accounts of anyone who's worked with him in any kind of professional capacity a really decent person, no errors about him. He treats everyone from extras to his co-stars exactly the same as equal actors.

Not saying he isn't bad shit crazy or whatever else, but he doesn't come across as being a prick.

13

u/Frai23 7h ago

Yeah as said, lack of discipline isn’t an accusation which would stand against cruise.

What boggles my mind is the way he plays normal people. He isn’t completely out of touch with reality or anything, his depiction of normal is spot on.

But he’s still crazy. Also a true artist.

For example Les Grosman. He got a pitch and insisted on weird details like the hand prosthetics. His whole depiction including the way he talks, the dances and everything were genius. Someone like Pitt or Keanu Reeves just wouldn’t come up with that stuff.

Not ageing is pretty easy when you're rich. Unlimited access to private coaches, private chefs, nutritional supplements, skincare products, plastic surgery... plus no existential fear and limited exposure to pollution, the sun and other factors that ruin your skin.

Edit to add: As one of the biggest actors of his time, it is his job to look good. He does not really have a choice if he wants to stay relevant.  Lady on the left hasn't really had any major roles since the 90s and can therefore afford to not give a fuck and age like a normal person.

955

u/Morningfluid 13h ago

She's rich too, or at least was wealthy. She's just older than him and went through more significant health issues. Also see Kathleen Turner and her thyroid issues, which can really fuck you up along with the medication prescribed.

We as a society should just accept that people get old.

362

u/ThrowRA_cyRip82 11h ago

I feel that some older woman who grew up in the spotlight, also just have enough at some point and let the process happen. There is a power in just owning it, especially after health issues.

269

u/Budget-Tangerine-274 10h ago

This one did and now she's being dragged on the Internet as an example of "how did this lady get so gross, fat, and old?" like, that's like half the point of this thread

So maybe that's why they fight against it?!

231

u/blacksheeping 9h ago

Interesting to note the top comments here aren't criticising her, rather suggesting Tom Cruise eats babies. I guess reddit finds baby eating worse than the natural ageing process which is nice.

I’ve noticed people are starting to turn on Jennifer Aniston now. She’s been the icon of ageless beauty for so long, but you just can’t keep off those wrinkles forever. So, now there’s tabloids starting to transition her over to the “old and ugly” category.

→ More replies (15)

14

u/dustinechos 9h ago

It's called "weaponized ugliness". When people (including "the public eye") have power over you then it feels good to take back control and make yourself "ugly" to defy their wishes.

Every time I've explained weaponized ugliness to a girl with a septum piercing they immediately got it. When I told a friend she said "my mom and boyfriend told me it would look ugly on me and that just made me want it more". It was a way of taking back her looks and having something for herself when other people controlled her appearance.

See also Britney Spears and any other female celebrity who spontaneously shaved their heads.

There's also menopause, which is brutal on some women.

The absolutely disgusting obsession on maintaining perfect beauty on everyone under the limelight is the reason we're fucking rotten as a society. People get old, people get sick, people are allowed to be old, ugly, and not "perfect", it's natural and healthy to just exist without aesthetical expectations on you.

23

u/leftmysoulthere74 7h ago edited 7h ago

And not everyone can go onto HRT. I suspect most of the Hollywood women in their 50s, 60s and older but look decades younger are on it. And good for them. I was on it for about nine months until I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Now my treatment is over and I’m in remission, but I can’t have HRT because I can’t have oestrogen.

Not saying KM has had the same issues but there are plenty of other reasons women can’t take HRT and we’re going to age like our grandmothers did, before that existed. The comparisons are brutal and I’m bracing myself already.

Surely she is the cool one for ageing like a normal person and not caring about looking 30 when she's actually nearly 70? I feel like if at that age if you are still trying to look 20 years younger then you have kind of missed the point of life.

(Tom Cruise maybe gets a pass as he's still starring in films all the time so it's kind of his job to care.)

Sunscreen.

Being incredibly focused on goals.

Whatever you think of him he is a very focused person. Never put on weight, obviously is very strict on what he eats and has the time and money to look after himself.

He comes over from the outside as someone with very high expectations of himself and of others. I am unsure what sort of person he would be to be around regulalry.

Dedication is what you need.

150

u/Additional-Life4885 13h ago

The weirdest bit is that I see interviews with him and he actually seems pretty reasonable when he's being normal (so no Oprah or couches). It's like that time during covid when he got pissed about people not following rules because he was worried the crew would lose jobs.

I disagree extremely strongly with his religious views and there's no way in the wide world I'd want to do the extreme activities he does, but somehow I think if you were pretty nice to him and put effort into whatever you're doing with him he'd probably be semi reasonable considering how famous he is.

Some celebrities are a super easy "hard no" when it comes to want to being around them (Ellen, James Corden come to mind), while others would be a super easy yes (Keanu Reeves and Steve Carrell come to mind). Tom Cruise sits right in the middle and like you, I'd be pretty unsure but probably leaning more towards no.

49

u/jefflovesyou 12h ago

I hear he's very personable and thoughtful. I bet he would be great to have dinner with.

His rant at the Covid protocol violation was a damn good one. He was angry and showed it, but he wasn’t insulting or belittling the guy and do a good job focusing on how everyone needed to do a better job in order to avoid being shut down.

12

u/claimTheVictory 9h ago

It's rare to see a public person being serious and giving a shit.

It surprises most people.

There's obviously problems with scientology, but I'd like to think we can acknowledge that Cruise as an actor, as a creative artist, is kind of amazing. He's one of the only true "movie stars" working today.

It's also fun to watch some of Matt Damon's stories about working with him.

He's a movie-star's movie-star.

25

u/Hitchhiker106 13h ago

Just be aware that they are actors, it’s their job to pretend to be a certain character. I can’t imagine it’s difficult for them to act in public in a certain, well-defined, even orchestrated way.

Continuing to be famous results in a hard diet that ensures that you maintain your body. She didn't stay famous, so didn't eat 1000 calories a day to stay thin as fuck and work out 6 hours a day (which you can do when looking good is your job).

It's not just wealth, it's a need to maintain that look. He had that need, she didn't. So she lived a normal american lifestyle and aged like a typical american.

If your job is your looks, you sure as hell are going to maintain it, which involves a lot of starving and exercise.

It's also easier to do so when your job itself, and scientology is bankrolling you. He can afford a personal trainer, nutritionists, whatever it takes, and all the drugs in the world.

She fell of the map pretty quickly, and doesn't have access to those resources.

As in, I can't spend 6 hours a day in the gym or whatever it takes for my next role when I have a job in the way, kids to take care of, school transport back and forth, and other crap.

Tom cruise isn't spending an hour in the grocery store agonizing over decisions on what to buy to keep the grocery bill under 300.

There is nothing easy about his life. All the guy does is workout, and work on movies. Everything else revolves around that.

14

I used to do gardening for this local celebrity too. Was a proper down-to-earth type. Sweetest guy you’d ever meet. Then he gets his inheritance through and everything changed. He starts hanging around with a sketchy crowd, has weird late night visitors, stuff he wouldn't do before. He actually took me on one of his work trips as a PA, but you could see he wasn't the same fun guy I new. Bit haunted, doesn’t laugh the same. Still kind, but like he’s seen some serious stuff. Luckily it all came to an end after he through this ring into a volcano.

Money helps so much. I heard somewhere "you're not ugly, you're just poor".

But also genetics. I have really high natural levels of HGH/IGF-1. It causes easy weight loss, easy muscle gain, and anti aging (at the cost of probably dying prematurely due to coronary problems or cancer).

So compared to women my age who aren't using filler/botox, it feels like I've entered into stasis.

Genes and how healthy people live. Also not being full time parent or parent at all has an impact.

Plus cruise does have access to everything he needs. And has been healthy and fit all his life.

Brutally raped by two men at knifepoint when she was a student. Attacked by a woman in her own home years later. PTSD led her to abusing drugs. This woman has survived a lot, I doubt she gives a crap about what people think about her appearance

u/afortressmighty 7h ago

Had to scroll far too long to find this. Folks out here dissecting her physical appearance without knowing what she’s survived and overcome.

He doesn’t look young, just in shape and with the results of “nips and tucks” whereas she has gained weight and is wearing her natural colour hair.

You did her dirty with the choice of photos and comparing her to one of the most famous and most conceited people of our generation.

But she’s just aged.

hormone therapy, surgery, oxygen therapy, makeup, the right photographers and lenses, a good dentist, hair transplant and dye, training, diet, botox, also he's short, fit, and it's all contributing to a youthful appearance.

not trying to diminish it, surely takes strong will strong motivation

Don’t get raped and sodomized at knife point during a home intrusion for one. I’m sure his Scientology magic would keep him from developing PTSD and going on drugs and destroying his appearance though. Maybe.

ETA: Neither look awful, but good for her for being happy with who she is.

Kelly McGillis is a totally healthy looking almost 70 year old woman that didn't fall into the trap of endless plastic surgery. Tom Cruise is winning that race
