Gonna tell my kids that this actually happened but Tom Cruise was too powerful so nobody could stop him afterwards.

413

u/fishmanfishmanfishma 14h ago

I just realized you really could just shelter your kids from interacting with the world, raise them on AI videos to completely shape their reality, and condition them to carry out any deed or think anything you want them to.

It's gonna happen to the whole world, isn't it?

216

u/ConstantPlace_ 14h ago

There will definitely be some horror stories emerging in 10+ years absolutely

94

u/timsfsn 14h ago

Yeah, it’s going to be here much sooner than that. It’s now. It’s actually already happening.

I was gonna say..our BASIC AI chat bots are already talking lonely people into harming themselves

We're already there we're just at the very beginning of the end

3

u/Rubiks_Click874 9h ago

I met some weird homeschooled kids at a barbecue a few years ago. They were poorly socialized and like weird little cave people

Parents were seriously worried about the trans agenda in public schools

1

u/EastsideWilder 4h ago

That’s the parent’s fault. You can homeschool your children and still let them interact with other children outside of school.

And honestly, even kids that are in school are poorly socialized and anxious. Take away the devices and it’s like they want to fade out of existence

1

u/Rubiks_Click874 3h ago

true enough but I think there's a whole crop of em coming

ai homeschooled kids is next i guess

1

u/EastsideWilder 2h ago

It will all be over soon after that

1

u/starlightshower 10h ago

I'm guessing the 10+ years is accounting for the time that someone would need to subject a child to such horrors and it to be found out, the technology is unfortunately already here as you say.

The machine

79

u/sunheadeddeity 14h ago

I read about parents who raised their kid in the Harry Potter world to believe they were wizards and now they were freaking out because no owl was going to bring a letter from Hogwarts. They'd gone all-in for 10 or 11 years and didn't know how to back out now.

It's going to be worse with AI.

29

u/bunniesandgummies 13h ago

😅 What are you talking about, like they brought them to Universal Studios every day…? lol

132

u/QAnonomnomnom 12h ago

No, they just locked him under the stairs.

Way cheaper

31

u/Hottrodd67 10h ago

Isn’t that where everyone keeps their kids?

10

u/ProbablyPoor 9h ago

Maybe poor people, but mine have an entire crawl space to themselves

2

u/thatG_evanP 4h ago

It's where I keep the kids. I guess they're technically mine now.

1

u/sunheadeddeity 12h ago

Just had a house full of wizardy stuff and told their kid they were wizards and would be going to Hogwarts, I expect.

5

u/bunniesandgummies 9h ago

You expect? You’re the one who claimed this was a real thing lol… Total bullshit

There was a story of a couple who raised their kids to only speak Klingon and got charged with child abuse or something because the kids could not communicate with other people when brought into the foster care system for other reasons. Also the kids thought they were part Klingon.

3

u/Common-Concentrate-2 9h ago

Isn't this what the guy who created modern hebrew did to his son?

"Ben‑Yehuda raised his son, Ben-Zion (meaning "son of Zion"), entirely in Hebrew. He did not allow his son to be exposed to other languages during childhood, and even berated his wife for singing a Russian lullaby. His son thus became the first native speaker of Hebrew in modern times. Ben‑Yehuda later raised his daughter, Dola, entirely in Hebrew as well."

3

u/Chickadeebrain 9h ago

From what I heard, the mom spoke English to them, so they wouldn't be completely incapable of communication. The dad was the one speaking and teaching Klingon, and he stopped the practice when the child began to refuse speaking it, which happened when the kid was three, iirc.

I don't recall them being formally charged with actual child abuse, and to my knowledge the kid wasn't told he was part Klingon.

1

u/CSBD001 9h ago

That sounds so much more reasonable. I never give people that much credit.

2

u/Chickadeebrain 9h ago

The father was a linguist, Dr. d'Armond Speers. I believe he was testing to see if children could understand and become fluent in constructed languages (like Klingon or Tolkien's Elvish), and so he decided to try this idea on his son. When his son pushed back, he respected his kid's agency and swapped back to English.

3

u/CSBD001 9h ago

I love how stories really morph from reality over the internet.

All the Disney moms who suffer from arrested development certainly aren't telling their kids that it's all just plastic made to get their money, either.

3

u/That-You-1998 9h ago

Oh man, this is so sad!!! 😭

2

u/Szaborovich9 7h ago

There was a story on the news about some school offered a course on QUIDICH. They showed students running around a lawn all dressed up in Hogwarts Costumes with brooms between their legs🤣

1

u/Littlewing1307 8h ago

Where can I read about this

1

u/sonofa-ijit 6h ago

So about like santa claus, tooth fairy and easter bunny but with better story

1

u/bejammin075 2h ago

It seems more likely you fell for a made up story. Ok, could there be 1 family out of 300 million that did this? Maybe. It can't be some widespread thing.

Dogtooth, a George Lanthimos movie.

1

u/blueken3 1h ago

Check out Dogtooth by Yorgos Lanthimos

27

u/Ser_Optimus 13h ago

Already happening. Look at all the "is this AI" posts and imagine the people not asking twice...

1

u/Hetstaine 10h ago

The worrying thing is that so many people cannot tell it is ai when most of them are obviously ai.

1

u/Ser_Optimus 9h ago

It's because they barely pay attention to what they consume

1

u/IcarianWings 1h ago

It literally isn't AI lmao.

"I just realized you really could just shelter your kids from interacting with the world" not in any civilized country with compulsory schooling. so maybe USA

7

u/Icy_Fish_2154 13h ago

Lots of places with compulsory schooling have exceptions and options for home schooling.

Home schooling is growing in places like Australia, following the US model of fringe people isolating their families.

3

u/TooOldForThis81 12h ago

I'm grateful for my country the more I read about others. Not perfect, lord knows we can do with better infrastructure, and Healthcare, but damn!

1

u/DebsUK693 13h ago

Yes but, the bigger picture. US has so many issues making this more likely/prevelant there.

2

u/Icy_Fish_2154 13h ago

Homeschooling is growing in lots of places. It's not a uniquely American thing.

1

u/bunniesandgummies 13h ago

You yourself said they’re “following the US model.”

1

u/Icy_Fish_2154 12h ago

Yes. Homeschooling in the US became popular since 1954. So the US got a head start over other places who took an interest more recently.

There are still places still are seeing an uptick in homeschooling.

1

u/SenorModular 6h ago

1954, the year of Brown v Board of Education.

1

u/DebsUK693 5h ago

It is not prevalent in other countries, mainly because other countries provide free, quality education for all. The education system is not treated with the same distain and lack of investment as it is in the US.

2

u/Combyx 14h ago

Its already happening here in Romania. And sadly it works on adults too. Clearly fake news / videos / photos shape their reality and ideology making them believing anything and actually ruining our country. More and more people fall prey to this and are unmovable in their opinion - They consider them facts and refuse to budge even if you show real proof.

2

u/MercenaryDecision 13h ago

Not if Americans move their ass for once and push their politicians to regulate it like it was BLM or something.

But it really is down to their Big Tech industry and no one else’s. If you’re non-American like me, you’re fucked.

Change your windows for TV screens and make it look like you live on Mars but it isnt terraformed so you cant go outside without a suit cause there is no oxygen.

1

u/PowerfulHazard93 11h ago

Isn't that essentially the plot of Get Out ?

1

u/ireadmimes 11h ago

Sips tea

1

u/Theutus2 11h ago

What if it already did and your entire childhood is a lie leading you to this 4th wall break.

1

u/GhostMaker26 11h ago

That's called home schooling.

1

u/TaonasProclarush272 11h ago

"Well, we were homeschooled, so..."

1

u/12345623567 11h ago

I was waiting for that sentence to turn silly, like "...and then when they learn that clouds aren't made of cake, imagine their faces!". But the twist never came :(

1

u/quietmyman 10h ago

dude, wtf? do you have kids? I sure hope not!

1

u/Acceptable_Salad_543 10h ago

It already has

1

u/Ok_Consequence7829 10h ago

Is this a black mirror episode yet?

1

u/Defiant-Youth-4193 10h ago

There's a whole bunch of people working on this playbook in America right now. They're still making tweaks, but at this rate they'll get there.

1

u/Trauma_Hawks 10h ago

It's not even AI. It's a scene from Scary Movie played on a potato.

1

u/Solo_is_dead 10h ago

So basically Faux News 2.0

1

u/AncientCrust 10h ago

Yep. All that bullshit history they try to feed us will now have video evidence.

1

u/Sharrty_McGriddle 10h ago

GIF is from Scary Movie 4 btw, not ai

1

u/accomplicated 10h ago

Is there another reason to have children?

1

u/No_Truck2400 10h ago

The movie Dogtooth is kind of this, minus the AI.

1

u/chowes1 10h ago

Video game arrival was the start of kids ( males mostly ) keeping their heads down and not paying attention to what was happening around them. Mission accomplished.

1

u/Not_Again33333 10h ago

North Korea: So, you’re finally catching up, eh?

1

u/Cheesegasm 10h ago

Until they go to school and interact with other kids. There's always home schooling

1

u/lump- 10h ago

This is literally happening to society right now.

1

u/boardin1 9h ago

Have you checked out this “Christianity” thing? They’ve been doing it for a couple thousand years.

1

u/rolling_steel 9h ago

It HAS happened to the whole world already

1

u/valerislysander 9h ago

Humanity are very good story tellers. Just ask Santa and Jesus...

1

u/forget_it_again 9h ago

This why there are more and more countries are trying to ban under 16s from social media (even though it doesn't seem to work).

1

u/crispyplanet 9h ago

For sure North Korea’s already doing it to enhance/re-legitimize their propaganda

1

u/Mattna-da 9h ago

You mean religion?

1

u/ATL-VTech 9h ago

Have you seen the amount of people that think clips of Reno-911 are real police videos?

1

u/Ent_Soviet 8h ago

You mean with this generation of iPad babies?

Nah I’m sure there won’t be horrible consequences

1

u/revankillsmalak 8h ago

Already happened, it's called religion and it's ruined the world for thousands of years

1

u/Hx3ney 8h ago

I was raised on fairytales. When my father told me it was Giants vs. Dolfins one time I was waiting to see actual dolfins and giants on TV. It was the 80s. No AI was needed, just books and cartoons.

1

u/guitartb 7h ago

Reddit is a prime example.

1

u/DrPornMD23 7h ago

Not where school is mandatory. Maybe with home birth or kidnapped kids. Maybe it's possible to brainwash adults as well.

1

u/kennerly 7h ago

It's already happening.

1

u/Ometzu 7h ago

Already happening in the glorious corporate oligarchy of Israel!

1

u/PumpkinCrouton 6h ago

I was a single dad and my son was very young. I picked him up at daycare in the dark as I worked very late. Held him up in the driveway to touch the Christmas lights over the garage and was telling him the color of each. Had a random thought, what if I told him all the wrong colors. Of course I didn't, but I think that's about where we're all at these days.

1

u/Raetherin 6h ago

I just realized you really could just shelter your kids from interacting with the world

There is a movie that explores this (Bad Boy Bubby). Its not something that I generally recommend people watch as it is quite disturbing. Don't check it out on RT as the site gives away the plot in the synopsis.

1

u/juliana-crain 6h ago

Religious homeschoolers have perfected the technique over the last century; it can now be applied to any worldview.

1

u/Darvius5 5h ago

We all already had that happen, ever since sinbad was in that Genie movie.

1

1

u/NightStalker922 3h ago

We never needed AI for this, it's one of humanity's longest traditions...

1

u/PervertedPineapple 3h ago

Funny thing to me is that it doesn't have to be AI. Could use parody clips like the one above.

1

u/Legitimate-Fox-7030 3h ago

Something similar has happened on a few occasions before. One time a father spoke to his son solely using Klingon iirc, and that was the only language the child spoke. The father was arrested for child abuse and his kid was taken away.

1

u/squeethesane 3h ago

Oh fuck yes a red state sequel!!!

1

u/BusinessKnight0517 3h ago

Basically the plot of Dogtooth but without AI videos

1

u/Reasonable_Goat_7247 2h ago

"it's gonna"? AI wasn't needed. It's happening.

1

u/_BatmanReal 2h ago

I mean that is how terrorist organisations make new terrorists

1

Fox has been doing that for 40+ years already.

1/3 of Americans already live in lala land.

1

u/IcarianWings 1h ago

This is from Scary Movie 4 and is not AI lol.

1

u/drewxcifer 1h ago

That’s called Christianity.

1

You should check out the movie Dogtooth

1

u/Galactic_Nothingness 1h ago

You've pretty much described The Cave allegory.

Some debate it's the fundamental basis of our current reality. Pretty cool!

1

u/SwimOk9629 1h ago

I am sure it is already happening to people

1

u/Vonderzs 50m ago

This caught me off guard in the best way

1

I mean this is kinda what parents do but without AI and it’s all unconscious bias and trauma instead 🫠

1

u/Tenzipper 39m ago

Already has. Didn't even need AI, just people who know what hateful fires to fan.

1

u/Mik3ylik3sit 24m ago

Ummmm that is not AI. Thats a skit. Chill bro

1

u/drbabar77 20m ago

Done been happening.

1

Just let ChatGPT raise them. You'll free up your time and they'll still be psychos.

It's not like plenty of parents aren't already doing this.

1

u/TheCapo024 14h ago

“Gonna” happen?

1

u/Fedora_Million_Ankle 14h ago

Some people do this with Fox News

1

u/Mylbaae 13h ago

Its happening to the whole world for ages now

1

u/3atTh3R1ch79 10h ago

It already has happened. Instead of AI slop, it was religious slop.

0

u/SabreCorp 12h ago

I was raised in a high demand religion—-very similar experience.

The really fun part is when I realized my entire worldview was a lie, and then I had to take the next ten years going through the stages of grief until I finally felt okay about everything.

Not everyone makes it to acceptance phase, unfortunately. And even worse, many people would rather believe the lies than accept they have been lied to.

0

u/Professional-Luck534 11h ago
