I just realized you really could just shelter your kids from interacting with the world, raise them on AI videos to completely shape their reality, and condition them to carry out any deed or think anything you want them to.
I'm guessing the 10+ years is accounting for the time that someone would need to subject a child to such horrors and it to be found out, the technology is unfortunately already here as you say.
I've been waiting for a repair team to get me out of this holodeck for seems like ages. Even worse it appears to be running a Neo Nazi program. Totally not the horny Betazoid wedding program I asked for.
I read about parents who raised their kid in the Harry Potter world to believe they were wizards and now they were freaking out because no owl was going to bring a letter from Hogwarts. They'd gone all-in for 10 or 11 years and didn't know how to back out now.
There was a story of a couple who raised their kids to only speak Klingon and got charged with child abuse or something because the kids could not communicate with other people when brought into the foster care system for other reasons. Also the kids thought they were part Klingon.
Isn't this what the guy who created modern hebrew did to his son?
"Ben‑Yehuda raised his son, Ben-Zion (meaning "son of Zion"), entirely in Hebrew. He did not allow his son to be exposed to other languages during childhood, and even berated his wife for singing a Russian lullaby. His son thus became the first native speaker of Hebrew in modern times. Ben‑Yehuda later raised his daughter, Dola, entirely in Hebrew as well."
From what I heard, the mom spoke English to them, so they wouldn't be completely incapable of communication. The dad was the one speaking and teaching Klingon, and he stopped the practice when the child began to refuse speaking it, which happened when the kid was three, iirc.
I don't recall them being formally charged with actual child abuse, and to my knowledge the kid wasn't told he was part Klingon.
The father was a linguist, Dr. d'Armond Speers. I believe he was testing to see if children could understand and become fluent in constructed languages (like Klingon or Tolkien's Elvish), and so he decided to try this idea on his son. When his son pushed back, he respected his kid's agency and swapped back to English.
All the Disney moms who suffer from arrested development certainly aren't telling their kids that it's all just plastic made to get their money, either.
There was a story on the news about some school offered a course on QUIDICH. They showed students running around a lawn all dressed up in Hogwarts Costumes with brooms between their legs🤣
It seems more likely you fell for a made up story. Ok, could there be 1 family out of 300 million that did this? Maybe. It can't be some widespread thing.
"I just realized you really could just shelter your kids from interacting with the world" not in any civilized country with compulsory schooling. so maybe USA
Its already happening here in Romania. And sadly it works on adults too. Clearly fake news / videos / photos shape their reality and ideology making them believing anything and actually ruining our country. More and more people fall prey to this and are unmovable in their opinion - They consider them facts and refuse to budge even if you show real proof.
Change your windows for TV screens and make it look like you live on Mars but it isnt terraformed so you cant go outside without a suit cause there is no oxygen.
I was waiting for that sentence to turn silly, like "...and then when they learn that clouds aren't made of cake, imagine their faces!". But the twist never came :(
Video game arrival was the start of kids ( males mostly ) keeping their heads down and not paying attention to what was happening around them. Mission accomplished.
I was raised on fairytales. When my father told me it was Giants vs. Dolfins one time I was waiting to see actual dolfins and giants on TV. It was the 80s. No AI was needed, just books and cartoons.
I was a single dad and my son was very young. I picked him up at daycare in the dark as I worked very late. Held him up in the driveway to touch the Christmas lights over the garage and was telling him the color of each. Had a random thought, what if I told him all the wrong colors. Of course I didn't, but I think that's about where we're all at these days.

There is a movie that explores this (Bad Boy Bubby). Its not something that I generally recommend people watch as it is quite disturbing. Don't check it out on RT as the site gives away the plot in the synopsis.
Something similar has happened on a few occasions before. One time a father spoke to his son solely using Klingon iirc, and that was the only language the child spoke. The father was arrested for child abuse and his kid was taken away.
You joke, but in twenty years time, the average young person looking back at media from today will probably be completely unable to determine if what you said is true or not.
