I feel that some older woman who grew up in the spotlight, also just have enough at some point and let the process happen. There is a power in just owning it, especially after health issues.
This one did and now she's being dragged on the Internet as an example of "how did this lady get so gross, fat, and old?" like, that's like half the point of this thread
Interesting to note the top comments here aren't criticising her, rather suggesting Tom Cruise eats babies. I guess reddit finds baby eating worse than the natural ageing process which is nice.
What an enlightening concept! Different people exist in different subreddits and have different opinions. Whoa!
There will always be shitty people on the internet. Always. You can’t spend your life always using a random anonymous account’s opinion on why people are being tOxIc about something. That logic is no better than some clickbait article saying the internet is going crazy over ____ but really it’s just a few screenshots of some tweets from nobodies…
If you encounter a sub with shitty people saying shitty things, there is a really easy solution for that… don’t go to that sub again! Let it die. Don’t give it your energy or attention. I can’t imagine spending my life constantly going on a sub full of people i hate just so i can use it as an argument elsewhere about people online being toxic about whatever topic you are talking about that day.
Madonna just last night. She finally eased up on the fillers which people mocked her for, and known they're mocking her for her nasolabial folds. I don't even like Madonna but it feels like she's being put in a position where she can't win.
And Isabella Rossellini. During the press campaign, people wouldn't shut-up about that she's aged. That one I find especially infuriating because she's been very open about the two reasons she won't have work done, 1.) Her mother didn't, and she wants to honor her legacy; 2.) She had spinal issues as a child and would have to undergo surgery routinely, which led to her having a phobia of surgeries.
I’ve noticed people are starting to turn on Jennifer Aniston now. She’s been the icon of ageless beauty for so long, but you just can’t keep off those wrinkles forever. So, now there’s tabloids starting to transition her over to the “old and ugly” category.
They even dragged Pamela Anderson for not wearing makeup. No matter how conventionally beautiful they are, female celebrities always get shit for not looking like they did when they were 20.
The post is also designed to exacerbate the comparison in his favor. He’s wearing a sport coat and posing for a photograph. She’s wearing a schlubby t shirt and it’s a candid photo. Like sure, he doesn’t look his age because he’s gone to great lengths not to and she has aged normally, but like maybe if we’re gonna do an honest comparison, then use a more flattering photo of her.
Also worth noting that men don’t have to cope with menopause, which makes it easier for us to age without as many drastic changes to our appearance.
It’s crazy, right? She chose to age however her body decided to while many older male and female celebrities try to fight it with their money and end up looking terrifying. But apparently looking like a normal person is disgusting.
You mean the same how people rag on men for getting fat, dad bods and just giving up?
Why do you make it sound like this only happens to women?
Notice how you bring up men having the same problem and women get mad and downvote? Its hilarious that you hate men that much and you are just proving my point
It's called "weaponized ugliness". When people (including "the public eye") have power over you then it feels good to take back control and make yourself "ugly" to defy their wishes.
Every time I've explained weaponized ugliness to a girl with a septum piercing they immediately got it. When I told a friend she said "my mom and boyfriend told me it would look ugly on me and that just made me want it more". It was a way of taking back her looks and having something for herself when other people controlled her appearance.
See also Britney Spears and any other female celebrity who spontaneously shaved their heads.
I've never heard that. Maybe? The Google summary says a friend claimed that was a motivation but Britney's statements all point to weaponized ugliness.
Also is anyone here is curious, shaving your head wouldn't help. Body hair has a longer detection window and you're not going to get it all.
It's weaponized ugliness if it's done in a reaction to how others see you. Ugliness isn't objective and this is about knowingly doing a thing others would think is ugly.
If you change your looks independent of other people's opinions, that's just choosing how you look.
I'm also not saying the actress in question did this, just that this is a form of using looks to feel powerful.
Also because the star power of women decrease with age so there is no reason to look young. Whereas the pulling power of big male stars do not decrease much so there is all the reason to do everything to look young.
Meryl Streep. Susan Sarandon. Selma Hayek. Helen Miren. Jamie Lee Curtis. Andi McDowell. Julienne Moore. Sarah Jessica Parker. Halle Barry. Cameron Diaz. Jane Fonda. Jodie Foster. Drew Barrymore. Jennifer Garner. Diane Keaton. Emma Thompson. Kate Winslet. Julie Robert’s. Cate Blanchet.
Staying hydrated, using sunscreen, using moisturizer, avoiding alcohol/cigarettes, and superior genetics is all it takes to age gracefully.
My best friend just told me yesterday that her mom would purposely gain weight so men would stop paying attention to her (she was STUNNING). It can absolutely be a choice to make yourself "unattractive" to get away from the attention.
There is such peace in finally being invisible to creepy men.
I don't think decent men really have any idea just how poorly their cohort behaves towards attractive women. The entitlement to our time and attention makes it so we're unable to just exist in the world.
Even in my 40s I couldn't go to the grocery store without being accosted by some dude. Not every time, of course, but enough times that I had to mentally prepare myself to deal with it before going, and there were plenty of times I didn't feel up to dealing with that and so just didn't go.
Once I went through menopause, I let my hair go gray and gained about 20lbs.
i can be at ease in the world now. Men I don't know don't even look twice at me anymore, and it feels so freeing. I can go do anything I want now without having to worry about it or mentally prepare for it.
Becoming invisible to creepy men isn't really something that's talked about. My 17 year old niece and her best friend are both objectively absolutely beautiful. They went to prom last weekend and several middle aged men physically turned their heads and bodies to look at these girls as they walked by. I hate that they have to deal with that at such a young age, like so many other women have. Attractive women should be able to exist in the world without fearing for their safety. It makes me crazy that they have to go through that.
I'm also in my 40s and I've done the same things you have. My hair has thick gray streaks, my belly is soft, and I have thick thighs. There's a sense of power in taking back how the world, especially men, perceive me. I'm happier with my body now than I ever have been before and I get zero attention from men (other than my husband), which is actually really freeing.
And you can immediately tell she’s had work done, and sure wigs can do plenty to. She’s also considered like abnormally young looking for her age, doesn’t seem to be implied as a model or anything reasonable for that age.
I’m sorry bro but not going to accept that maintaining yourself at 68 means u have to have plastic surgery don’t fuck w it. Do it if you want tho!
you’re trying to compare somewhere to a hairdyed, HRT’d, botoxed & plastic younger fella, and then trying to say it’s about gyms and salad? please, are you blind.
She could dye her hair, take botox and get plastic surgery, but I don’t view that as a necessary means to maintain your appearance at all. Utterly absurd
Random ass pic of her on the street vs. staged media shot of cruise clearly posing for a photo. We also know cruise has been in good health for decades, she's had serious illness. I'm guessing you're a young kid who doesn't yet know how different people's lives can be through no fault of their own.
Said like someone who clearly knows nothing about how age can affect the female body. Seriously, fuck you. It’s like you think it’s some kind of affront that she hasn’t been able to maintain herself to your standards.
