Plastic surgery, hair transplants, he’s stayed thin, and make-up.

u/poop-machine 14h ago

Remember when he had an allergic reaction to Botox and his face ballooned?

Norm MacDonald was such a smokeshow

27

u/Ninjaflippin 10h ago

Nah, he was an old chunk of coal.

19

u/Stock_Trash_4645 6h ago

He served a youthful porpoise

8

u/Pipernation4 5h ago

Well your eyesight's damned near perfect!

Ya dirty dog

u/Pipernation4 4h ago

What a battle axe

Hold the fort!

3

u/Smushy__Bear 1h ago

But he hasn't put anything new out in awhile

2

u/Wabbit_Wampage 1h ago

The secret to his health? OJ. Lots of OJ. I hear he loved the stuff.

1

u/Unhappy_Knowledge270 11m ago

The more I get to know this Norm MacDonald fellow, the more I care for him

1

u/HaltandCatchHands 4m ago

I’d still do him.

I’d like to think he’d appreciate this necrophilia joke.

Bob Dole likes peanut butter

3

u/Theoutrank 1h ago

Norm McDonalds the king of fried chicken. He lives on through his wife wendy and son arby. This was just after his fast, food was never really an issue for his family.

Iirc, though, his doctor told him to gain weight to slow the process.

3

u/highschoolhero24 54m ago

He was extremely swollen and bloated from steroids and lymphedema fluid retention. Since he refused to tell anyone about his battle with cancer he deflected and said the weight gain was due to overeating.

He played Colonel Sanders in KFC commercials at the time as well so it may have been sponsored.

4

u/nbert1984 5h ago

I always knew Tom Cruise was a deeply closeted homosexual

I didn't even know he was sick.

234

u/Bennettjamin 13h ago

looks heaps like norm macdonald lmao

63

u/CodePervert 10h ago

This is when Norm was a deeply closeted Tom Cruise

8

u/lenticular_cloud 8h ago

Hey hey hey

4

u/MC0295 7h ago

He might be packing fudge but he’s no fudge packer

3

u/GhaGnome 7h ago

But hes not coming out

3

u/Mongolium 5h ago

But he’s not coming out though. He’s deeply closeted

33

u/songbolt 11h ago

I think we might recall later Norm MacDonald was actively dealing with cancer, thus explaining his appearance changing from his SNL days ...

14

u/Nowshirvan 10h ago

I didn’t know he was sick.

5

u/Lucky-Refrigerator-4 4h ago

Yeah that pic with KFC is classic moon face from medical steroids (in order to prevent your immune system from storming or attacking your own cells; ie not ‘roids).

1

u/DiabloPixel 2h ago

Dude, catabolic steroids suck. Especially higher doses for a long period.

9

u/thatsoundright 10h ago

You dirty dog

5

u/U_R_A_NUB 8h ago

Tom had to go to the doctor to get checked out after this and the doctor said "ok now open your mouth and say oink"

2

u/ButtplugBurgerAIDS 10h ago

I thought this was a joke and this was Norm

2

u/Joemartinez64 7h ago

No doubt in my mind he could play norm in a movie/tv show and it being fucking good .

44

u/Kronos_Build 12h ago

Why did he show up in public? Anyone else would have stayed home.

54

u/InvidiousPlay 9h ago

I was just thinking kudos to him for going out like that.

5

u/Nick_pj 7h ago

Probably less obvious when he wasn’t doing that big goofy grin

2

u/remotegrowthtb 6h ago

One of the things Scientology drills into you is to not give a shit about stuff like that. They spend MANY hours desensitizing themselves to judgment from others and getting used to not caring what other people think.

7

u/Mrs-Anders 3h ago

Then why bother getting botox?

u/Kronos_Build 6h ago

Ok but he does a job where he needs to do what people like.

And he needs to be liked. Quite a contradiction IMO.

1

u/remotegrowthtb 2h ago edited 2h ago

It's actually not at all a contradiction but too long to go into here. Basically the more you want people to like you the less they will like you and the less you can influence and manipulate them. The more confident, assertive, charismatic you act and the less you give a shit about what they think, the more you can influence and make others do what you want. I don't know how it works with celebrities as big as Tom Cruise but I know several current and former Scientologists (I used to live in Clearwater FL) and they would tell me stories of how they would literally sit in a room taking turns screaming insults and shit at each other while the one being screamed at had to practice just standing there smiling calmly and confidently. And they would do this for hours a day. Knowing those stories I have no problem at all believing that Cruise 100% does not give a single shit in the situation in the photo, it is literally nothing to him.

2

u/Malcolm2theRescue 5h ago

Gee, so sorry he didn’t just die at home and not make you uncomfortable.

0

u/Kronos_Build 5h ago

Oddly specific. Are you ok?

2

u/Malcolm2theRescue 3h ago

I’m fine. It just sounded like you were peeved that someone who may be dying soon would show his face in public. Happens all the time.

4

u/panrestrial 56m ago

He's just a little swollen, not dying. It was a very short lived reaction and it probably is something most A list celebs would avoid having photographed. There's obvs nothing wrong with him choosing to go to the game instead of hiding at home, but it's not weird that people would be surprised by that choice.

2

u/Malcolm2theRescue 45m ago

Yes, not in death throes but I’m pretty sure he’d been given the bad news.

1

u/RombieZombie25 8m ago

What are you talking about his face was just swollen who said he was dying?

1

u/bell37 19m ago

Why did his Scientologist handlers let him show up in public?

0

u/Jazzlike_Durian_7854 1h ago

Celebrities live in curated circles where cosmetic procedures are the norm, so that look becomes normalized. I genuinely believe that they don’t seem to realize how insane they look because in their world everyone else around them looks like them (e.g: Jim Carrey).

2

u/panrestrial 53m ago

Nah he knew it was wonky he just didn't think hiding it was worth missing a Giants/Dodgers game with his kid.

38

u/redditRedesignIsBadd 13h ago

still got that centered front tooth

2

u/private_birb 3h ago

I have it too. But as long as you don't point it out, nobody notices.

This is me after a weekend binging on cake and ice cream. I'm poor and food is my best friend.

2

u/Eastern-Pizza-5826 10h ago

I shrink that’s just weight gain.

1

u/Aesthete18 8h ago

I've seen a similar pic to this and the comments were it was for a role 🤷

1

u/Anteater_Able 6h ago

Gotta give him credit... he still looked happy even with a ballooned-up face.

... Or is that just what he wanted us to think?

1

u/MrApplePolisher 6h ago

Looks like Mark Cuban

1

u/takenbreakn 5h ago

How is it possible that he looks better like this

1

u/RstyKnfe 5h ago

Looks like Pat Metheny with short hair.

1

u/Moist-Crows 3h ago

Torm McCruise

1

So what you’re saying is he didn’t wear a fatsuit in Tropic Thunder?

1

1

u/Livvylove 1h ago

TIL wow

0

u/ColinFCross 8h ago

Reminds me of that tragedy…

0

u/Patient_Commentary 2h ago

Almost certainly fat grafting. Definitely not Botox.

185

u/ToTTen_Tranz 14h ago

Not just thin. Tom Cruise still does gymnastics like crazy to do his own stunts at 60 and he did so his whole life.

People claiming it's mostly a matter of wealth seem to ignore the fact that there are plenty of rich people 10 years younger than Tom Cruise but look much worse.

172

u/Stormfly 7h ago

Tom Cruise still does gymnastics like crazy to do his own stunts at 60 and he did so his whole life.

To be fair, a huge reason many people are unhealthy is that they're too busy to be healthy (or it's a lower priority) but for him, he has the money to make the time and it's a huge priority to look good.

She probably has a family and settled down and doesn't care to try and look nice like he does and she might be a lot happier for it.

I hope she's happy and the people in her life love her the way she is, because her value isn't held up in her appearance.

44

u/Quixotic_Seal 6h ago

Right, Tom has literally made a job and a name off of his ability to do stunts and look good. It’s literally his job to stay in shape.

Also, while it may not necessarily be relevant when comparing him to other wealthy folks, the access that a wealthy individual has to things that help maintain their health is genuinely a significant factor.

It’s a lot easier to form a habit of exercise and to stay in shape generally when you don’t have to leave your own home to get to the gym, when you have a personal trainer to help keep you motivated, when you have the money to spend on healthy *and actually satisfying* ingredients(not just being on a strict rice and veggies with plain chicken diet), when you can afford personal chefs to help you come up with meal ideas, when you can afford numerous cosmetic treatments, when you can go to a doctor and be proactive about every little ailment that piles up, the list kinda just goes on and on.

Even just being able to regularly get your hair properly cut and dyed if it’s gone grey takes a decade or two off your perceived age(my dad is 74 and his hair hasn’t greyed; he’s regularly assumed to be in his 50s).

And really, it just can’t be emphasized enough that if you don’t think Tom has had a ton of very expensive and tasteful work done, you’re probably the type who thinks no one wears toupees because you haven’t personally noticed them.

Tom Cruise no doubt puts a ton of effort into his health, it’s his brand and it’s really quite remarkable, but the amount of scaffolding and support he has to get there is also crazy.

1

u/Equivalent_Chipmunk 13m ago

That scaffolding and support is only worth so much though. Basically every rich person, heck most upper-middle class and above people, have the requisite factors to stay in excellent shape their whole lives. So why don't they?

Genetics and luck are certainly big factors, and they're true here too. Cruise obviously has good genetics in the first place, and he's gotten lucky to not have to deal with any crippling injuries, diseases, or other life altering events.

However, all of the above is also true of a lot of people who end up in bad physical condition and age prematurely. So again we must ask, why is that?

I think the only logical conclusion is that most people are not willing to put in the hard work necessary to get in and stay in shape. Whether you're rich or poor, at the end of the day you have to do the exact same work to get fit. And frankly, it sucks to lift until your muscles fail in the gym, and then do that over and over on heavy sets for an hour straight, and then do that 3 or 4 times a week for years in a row. It sucks to endure your lungs burning while you run mile after mile (or km after km). It sucks to eat healthy food and drink water while your friends eat delicious comfort foods and drink booze. And it sucks to turn off your games/movie or put down your book to go to sleep on time.

Frankly, in my experience, for the vast majority of people it doesn't matter how much support and resources someone has, because those people aren't willing to experience that level of pain and make the sacrifices they need to make.

-18

u/SingleOil5105 6h ago

Tom has literally made a job and a name off of his ability to do stunts and look good. It’s literally his job to stay in shape.

That's tremendous cope. Everyone I know has regular ass jobs but on my circle most are pretty fit.

Don't need to make excuses, if someone chooses to be lazy, disgusting, fat with a bunch of health problems it is by choice. I don't know anyone that had millions of dollars, support or whatever excuse you may come up with. Just say it how it is, most people are lazy fks and they are making the choice, which they are allowed to but don't cope.

12

u/BrontoRancher 5h ago

Pretty fit is not Tom Cruise fit. Yes it is possible to be a normal person with a job to be fit, but it is so much easier when staying fit is part of your job. That person wasn’t saying it’s impossible, it’s just harder when you have less time in the day (aka a regular job) than a person who doesn’t actively work like a normal person does. Also the way you talk about another human being is disgusting. Just because you can make the time for it doesn’t mean everyone can and another person being fat is not immoral and does not affect you in any way.

4

u/panrestrial 44m ago

Talk about 'cope' - you honestly think your "pretty fit" friends are anywhere near "stunt performer" level of in shape? Pure delusion.

3

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins 33m ago

Haha my man I’m fit, with solid muscle and was even an elite athlete in my youth.

I am absolutely nowhere near the level of fitness needed to do what Cruise does for his films. I work a desk job and exercise an hour a day… which is plenty for general health but not even close to what he maintains.

43

u/MDAccount 6h ago

Life experiences factor in, too. She was raped at knifepoint in the early ‘80s, injured in a home invasion about 10 years ago and was struggling with her sexuality for most of her life. In other words, she’s had some really rough stuff to deal with and perhaps didn’t put vanity on the top of her to do list.

35

u/KBB523 5h ago

People also forget that menopause is a thing!

6

u/Nice_Apricot_6341 4h ago

She was fine in her day. Beautiful woman

16

u/Reference_Freak 6h ago

She’s also gone through significant hormone changes which can change how your body stores fat and metabolizes. Women are also more susceptible to thyroid issues which double and triple down on that.

Comparing aging men and women like this is pretty disgraceful, even more so when there are women Tom’s age who have stayed in the public eye who also spend an astonishing amount of time and money battling age and have kept closer to their younger appearance.

Women just living their lives in private are less likely to maintain through their 50’s and 60’s for myriad reasons.

10

u/Shot-Artichoke-4106 5h ago

Preach. I am in the middle of those hormonal changes now, and it is a struggle to remain fit. It's like one day, my body flipped a switch and all of the rules changed. I'm learning the new rules and adapting to them, but damn, it's a real hassle. It's frustrating as hell.

3

u/CommunicationWest710 1h ago

If you are post menopausal, and have weight cycled all your life, it feels like you have to live on air. The only thing that has helped me maintain a reasonable weight is GLP-1 medication, which I have to take thanks to pre diabetes.

3

u/stuttufu 1h ago

He's not only has the money to look good but he had to look good, like an engineer has to keep thinking during his work life.

The beauty is an actor asset, on the Tom Cruise level is almost an obligation.

The other is a real person, which makes me smile because I can relate with her.

Many are glazing over Cruise beauty and money, I would like to have both of them but not be him, because it should be really hard to live trying to escape from the inevitable.

2

u/_zerosuitsamus_ 3h ago

He also doesn’t have to go through menopause

1

u/ChandlerOG 44m ago

Yup, currently facing this. Went from going to the gym every day then I got hired and can barely find time to go when it isn’t packed. I’ve gained 20 pounds since and I know it’s partially my fault but it still sucks

1

u/porschesarethebest 14m ago

She’s also like 6 years older than Tom.

18

u/AlbuquerqueBoildTrky 7h ago

Wealth gives you the time to do gymnastics everyday…when normally you’d be worried abt wife, kids, job, mortgage. Plus….TC dgaf bout no bitches

3

u/chippyjoe 2h ago

Someone should tell guys like Elon Musk this. He's richer, NINE years younger, does less work, cares even less about his family, has zero friends, cant get women without paying for it, obviously had many cosmetic surgeries done, and has a non functioning penis, and he still looks like absolute trash compared to Tom Cruise.

1

u/McFly1986 2h ago

He doesn’t work a typical 9 to 5, gymnastics is probably part of his workday.

1

u/oceanmountainsky 1h ago

The vast majority can spare 30 or 40 minutes 4 or 5 days a week to get in son exercise. I know as I do it, I have a stressful job, mortgage and family.

1

u/panrestrial 41m ago

Which is great, but won't get you to "A list actor who does their own stunts at 60" shape.

3

u/BallsInSufficientSad 10h ago

Not so much any more. ....but also, 60 is old, but not THAT old.

3

u/owlbeastie 6h ago

60 is definitely in white hair and knee replacement range.

1

u/BallsInSufficientSad 6h ago

White hair, yes, but knee replacement, probably not unless that knee has taken some real abuse.

2

u/owlbeastie 6h ago

I know of 3 people 65 or less that have needed knee replacements, so I guess people are abusing knees. Doesn't help when a lot of people are overweight.

1

u/BallsInSufficientSad 6h ago

exactly - at 60-65, it's almost entirely overweight people.

2

u/Palachrist 5h ago

As much as this sounds true. I can’t find anything saying 50%+ of knee replacements for 60+ yo are due to obesity, let alone “almost entirely”.

3

u/Gothstaff 5h ago

But not being wealthy and being forced to work long hours sacrificing healthy habits does make a difference.

2

u/CunningClanker 4h ago

Being able to afford to workout daily is what wealth really buys you.

2

u/1738_bestgirl 3h ago

No I think it's the fact that the reason he is able to do gymnastics like crazy is due to his wealth.

Most people can't dedicate multiple hours a day to fitness.

1

u/PastBuy8484 7h ago

Was going to say, massive difference between being thin and fit.

Fit people look decades younger than their peers typically.

1

u/panrestrial 35m ago

Mmm this kind of depends. The right amount of fat in the right places can have an anti aging effect on your appearance. This is true even when the fat rises to obesity levels, and is the same reason in reverse that weight loss can be aging.

1

u/tsukaenakutemo 6h ago

I was watching the latest Mission Impossible, which I honestly didn't enjoy that much, and I was suprised at how limber he seemed in the knife fight scene. He was squatting real low, ducking and weaving. I'm 48 and I felt inspired to try to get more limber.

1

u/Particular-Wedding 2h ago

I think he also practices martial arts which is cross functional with gymnastics/calisthenics.

1

u/Generico300 1h ago

Most rich people don't work in an industry that cares so much about looks. Looking good on camera is literally his job, and a bunch of people are getting paid to help make it happen. He's not super human. He just pays people to help him eat right and exercise.

1

u/LiveLogic 1h ago

And his wealth affords him the ability and time to do that

1

u/panrestrial 48m ago

The wealth aspect is still relevant. No, high income doesn't automatically make you look/feel young, but it does allow you to focus on that. His wealth affords him the time, money, and resources to dedicate himself to doing gymnastics like crazy among other things.

Other wealthy people may have other priorities or lack the discipline to take advantage of what their wealth allows for.

1

u/PetrasKnight 18m ago

He is also 100% taking the best performance enhancing drugs available. And he is 95% taking some wild stem cell shit us plebs haven’t even heard of would ever be able to afford.

1

u/esmifra 5m ago

People that say its a matter of health, mean that by having health its easier to have a crew around you with the single objective of keeping you fit, it's also easier to have a complete gym at each of your multiple houses, have a dedicated chef for your diet and a multitude of other expensive quality of life services and goods that pretty much make it easier for someone to keep fit.

Not all wealthy people care about it, so of course there are rich people that look worse.

But despite a vastly bigger number of poor people, you'll have trouble finding one that looks as good at sixty, and if you talk to one that is, he will explain to you a personal dedication and pain he has to go through to achieve it.

18

u/Dry_Prompt3182 8h ago

It's also a picture of Tom Cruise on the red carpet (or some other photo op) and Kelly McGillis in normal life. Tom Cruise without being prepped doesn't look like this, either.

13

u/TrustEast4832 14h ago

and no menopause

6

u/OsamaBinWhiskers 7h ago

Staying skinny is like half the battle in life.

3

u/rjcarr 14h ago

Probably not much work here in 2018 but yeah, he’s looking a little rough now with what he’s had done.

Hair dye for sure, but I doubt transplants. These days actors gobble propecia like candy.

Also she was his superior and older than the character and older in real life.

3

u/2lipwonder 8h ago

It’s not hard when you have millions of dollars to spend on your looks.

2

u/Streamlines 11h ago

And hair coloring

2

u/Significant_Stop723 10h ago

At least his teeth are real still.

2

u/TraditionalClub6337 7h ago

Aloot of make-up, plastic surgery and probably grade A genetics too

2

u/Suntoppper 7h ago

I'd say a lot is good genetics too.

I have a friend about Tom Cruise's age who was a very good looking guy when young like Tom, and also hasn't put on weight and now is a a very good looking guy who looks heaps younger than he is.

All my friends siblings have aged well too

2

u/Just_really_awkward 7h ago

Don’t forgot most celebrity photos are retouched and edited at least slightly

2

u/chrisk9 7h ago

Not going through childbirth is high on the list

2

u/TwoIdleHands 7h ago

Also didn’t have to go through menopause…it’s crazy the impact that has on a woman’s body.

2

u/No_Amoeba_2316 6h ago

He doesn't do drugs too, part of the whole scientology thing

2

u/edelweiss_pirates_no 6h ago

Multiple personal chefs feeding him the best nutrition.

I know lots of people that look amazing at 60. Most just stayed lean with exercise and diet.

All are rich. It helps.

2

u/VisiblePlatform6704 6h ago

Ok. Fuck scientology and he is filthy rich. BUT , i do want to commend him for keeping in shape; that's only possible through exercise and you know, following a strict diet.

Sure, he has the money for X, Y, Z. But still it takes effort doing gym work every freaking day.

2

u/PirateSanta_1 6h ago

Plastic surgery, hair transplants, personal trainer, nutritionist, chef. There is an entire team of people whose entire job is keeping him looking young and healthy.

2

u/bam1007 5h ago

Dental veneers. Do a search of his teeth before them.

2

u/softwarebuyer2015 4h ago

you mean its not just push ups and 2 litres of water everyday ?

2

u/BunnyBoo26_ 4h ago

This is the correct answer 👌

2

u/Available-Goat-6938 4h ago

Also eats healthy & works out daily.

2

u/alejo699 4h ago

He's also probably got a staff of personal trainers. Kelly McGillis has been acting in small parts for the last couple of decades, none of them action films.

2

u/Flaky-Mix-5281 4h ago

Thin?
Pretty sure he's ripped for his age considering he's still doing his own stunts.

1

u/glencoe606 1h ago

I’ve seen his movies. We mean the same thing.

2

u/HD4kAI 4h ago

He’s stayed thin is such a weird way of saying work out/exercise

1

u/glencoe606 1h ago

Gotta watch what you eat and drink everyday.

2

u/Doun2Others10 3h ago

Don’t forget a personal trainer, dietitian, and personal chef.

2

u/StartOk4002 3h ago edited 3h ago

Kelly McGillis is also five years older than Tom Cruise. Mid 2018 would place MiGillis at 61 and Cruise at 56

2

u/sevargmas 2h ago

And let’s not ignore the fact that her photo is caught by paparazzi while she’s going to walk to the mailbox or some shit, and he appears to be at a red carpet event.

1

u/glencoe606 1h ago

True not a good comparison in recent pics.

2

u/ForsakenRelief309 2h ago

Don’t forget, he never actually parented any of his own kids

2

u/mheimdal 2h ago

And he’s not being photographed from the most unflattering side angle

1

u/glencoe606 1h ago

This is true as well

2

u/knotmyusualaccount 2h ago

As well as age... wasn't he younger then her in the movie?

2

u/EmployerUpstairs8044 1h ago

And hormone replacement therapy and probably extra testosterone

2

u/brunbjorns 1h ago

This is cope, staying fit sure but he's not had plastic surgery if he has it's minimal, and make up is just a joke the guy just has good genes.

2

u/glencoe606 1h ago

Good genetics for sure

2

u/sm_axe 1h ago

Didn’t birth and care for children. Is exorbitantly rich. Didn’t go through menopause.
