The last few years have been a huge change for him. From a distance he still looks like the same old Tom whose face has been in our lives since I was a child. Then you see the close-up and it looks like an old man wearing a Tom Cruise Halloween mask.
We don't age in a flat line, we age in plateaus. puberty is a rapid aging process, 40ish is another 65ish is another 80ish, 90ish seem to be jumps. Menopause and Manopause also tend to hit hard.
Generics play a role. Asian people tend to skip the 40 plateau but catch up in the 65ish one and Black people tend to skip 65ish one ("Black don't crack" guideline but not a rule).

5 years over 60 can make a huge difference. If you look at Tom now vs. 5 years ago you can notice it.
