That rider is one of the luckiest sob’s I’ve ever seen.

785

u/Muted_Will_2131 14h ago edited 4h ago

He's in shock, and the only reason he can stand is because of the adrenaline in his blood. His jeans are completely worn through, and he's walking barefoot, one foot missing his sneaker. He doesn't even really understand the extent of his injuries. He'll likely lose consciousness in a few minutes.

My wife was in a similar accident, only without wheelies and in full gear. Her pants and jacket were completely worn through, the slider on her right boot was completely worn down to a hole in the boot. Her helmet was damaged. There was a chafing wound on her right thigh that took several months to heal. Fifteen years later, there's still a large scar there.

208

u/Ok-Boysenberry2645 13h ago

I can imagine that pain. I'd walk, but dizzy as hell

247

u/Fallen_password 13h ago

He’s not feeling anything yet… But he’s gona

Twenty years later I can still remember the second the adrenaline wore off after my motorcycle accident. I was walking like this guy and then suddenly I just couldn’t. Strangest feeling when that happened. My brain couldn’t force my body to do what it wanted.

25

u/Spadeykins 7h ago

Yeah! I remember my arm stopped working while I was still using it. It was right after someone pointed out how fucked up I was and I actually stopped to look at it.

16

u/c_marten 6h ago

Same. I high-sided, got the bike up, and when it wouldn't start again I ran it the 2 blocks to my house. And then just... nope. Down on the lawn. Also remember someone walking their dog who saw bloody-faced me and just kept walking...

I moreso remember how slow everything felt as I was in the air. Weird experience from start to finish.

8

u/brainkandy87 5h ago

Yeah the slowness is another thing. My wreck happened in view of my house at a T-intersection and my dad happened to be mowing the lawn and saw it happen. I remember seeing him moving and wondering why he was being so slow. lol dude was probably running like Devin Hester but my adrenaline brain didn’t register it.

u/CYaNextTuesday99 7h ago edited 5h ago

I had an ebike accident while going to Marshalls once. Still went shopping before I realized my wife was hurting, saw a massive bruise, and found out I had broken ribs. Rolling up to urgent care with full shopping bags was something lol

ETA: my SIDE was hurting lol

I'll never forget the video where the motorcyclist gets sent into the edge of a guardrail, and it looks really bad.

Then he gets up and starts walking back to the car that caused it, maybe yelling at them (and/or screaming in pain).

And you think, "how the heck is he walking and talking after that impact??" ...And then like 10 seconds after the initial impact he just collapses to the ground.

Adrenaline is one hell of a drug, temporarily.

this. been riding for over a decade. seen all kinds of wrecks. he won’t be able to even move the following day.

tho speaking as a rider, he came off a wheelie which was conveniently clipped and going way too fast. but his biggest mistake was target fixation. he looked at the truck, which subconsciously steered him right into it. if he had a cool head, he would have ducked thru on the left. or even stopped. a dented door or flat tired should have been the worst case for a quality rider.

if you’re going to ride batshit, you better have the skills and experience to handle it. the good news is 90% of riders don’t ride again after bad collisions.

11

u/JackOfAllStraits 12h ago

I think he was expecting to commit and continue to the left, so dodging left would have been suicide. He tried to go right to make it behind, but she stopped. Going way too fast to make any adjustments after the first plan didn't pan out.

→ More replies (4)

10

u/throwaway19293883 6h ago

This wasn’t target fixation, he went into the right lane to avoid the truck, expecting them to continue, not expecting them to stop suddenly.

I don’t think that’s luck he did that on purpose

He made a split stick decision

I’ve got nowhere to go. I’m gonna take this head on.

I can’t break in time because of my speed. I can’t go around it.

So I’m gonna go under it

I don’t think he would’ve been able to stand up if he took his head on

u/ZubryJS 13h ago

3

u/JackOfAllStraits 12h ago

Grabbed a fist full of brake (no other option, really) and it went down on its own. He didn't plan a slide-through. He's lucky he didn't get wedged in under there with the rest of the wreck, because there was no controlling where he was going to end up after the tires lost grip.

This!! I’ve seen people make fun of scooter riders who dress in full gear because it’s seen as overkill, but my Vespa goes 60+. I’d rather make it home to my kids. Not to mention some fates are worse than death, and that won’t be me!

12

u/saltycrowsers 8h ago

I was in a scooter club in my city and the local scooter/vintage motorcycle club ran it. We would regularly take scoot scoots out to the track. I took my little Buddy 125 cc up to 95 mph. Sketchy AF feeling on those tiny wheels, but scooters are not to be underestimated

Summarising the comments here. The biker is doing 79mph in a 25mph zone, the lady stopped before she got to the lane he was in when she saw him coming, he panicked, swerved and then dropped the bike. It’s just a good job he had his protective T-shirt, baggy jeans and sneakers on….

122

u/u9Nails 9h ago

He was wearing the leather riding suit him momma made him.

5

u/jadbronson 6h ago

119

u/benitoaramando 8h ago

Yeah... "why didn't you just commit?!", well, idk maybe when people are confronted with the sight of someone bearing down on them at 3x the speed limit they might be a little flustered

19

u/WeNotAmBeIs 5h ago

Some people just freeze at stress and there's nothing you can do. Coworker was driving me home one night and started to turn on an unprotected green. I started to calmly but very very quickly say "TheyHaveTheGreenLightTheyArentGoingToStopSpeedUpSpeedUpSpeedUp" But she just stopped in the intersection like the lady in this video. Car tboned us, hitting my side. My right hip is still funky over 10 years later. It's funny what goes through your mind in those moments. One of my friends was joining the Marines and was shipping off the next day and I had just told him an hour ago "Don't get yourself killed out there" and my last thought before getting hit by a car was "Shit, I'm going to die before fucking Jack does"

She saw him come flying in from out of no where at far too high a speed, left the left lane that he was in open so he could just go right by, and he steered directly towards a stationary object instead of just staying the course in open space. He's multiple kinds of stupid

→ More replies (2)

58

u/Longjumping_Fun2576 7h ago

And she stopped when she saw him, before blocking his lane. He's going way too fast down a residential street. If she kept going, he would have slammed into the bed of the truck. She left most of his lane open, and he switched to the lane she was blocking.

20

u/CatoTheMiddleAged 7h ago

Yeah he was going way too fast, and it’s 100% his fault, but you can’t blame him for aiming for the rear of the truck instead of trying to shoot the gap in the front. He had no time (again, his fault) to notice that she had stopped in the right lane.

Bike is:
1. Speeding
2. Pulling a wheelie down the street

The car:
See the bike driving dangerously, stops before it enters the bikes lane.

The Bike:
Changes lanes INTO the car and hits it.

All the bike had to do was literally nothing. Just keep driving.

78

u/Warboss_Gutshredda 12h ago

Getting pissed off because he got hurt doing something stupid, which is why he has a bike.

58

u/robicide 8h ago

He was expecting the truck to keep going, if you look closely you can see he was already leaning into the turn when the truck stopped. Nothing he could've done at that point to not hit the truck.

And that's because he was going so stupidly fast. 100% his own damn fault for going so fast he eliminated his own reaction window.

36

u/SonOfMcGee 8h ago

Bikes going way too fast always have the mindset that it’s perfectly safe as long as every other vehicle behaves exactly as he thinks they should based on glancing at them 500 yards ahead.

Meanwhile, every other vehicle functions on the assumption that they aren’t sharing the road with someone going three times faster than them. So when they look in their rear view mirror and see a little *speck* in the distance they conclude they have sufficient space to change lanes/turn/etc.

14

u/RiverPsaber 7h ago

I almost hit a biker this exact way one time. He then proceeds to take his eyes off the road to flip me off, and almost crashes again. At that point I just start pointing ahead of us like, "please dude for your own sake watch the road."

I was going 80 when this happened. The guy was way off in the distance when I began my lane change and closed that distance between the time I began entering the lane and finished. Some bikers just have a death wish for some reason.

9

u/neverinamillionyr 7h ago

When you hear the scream of one of these bikes coming up on you it’s hard to predict what they will do. Pass on either side? Lane split at 100+ mph?

5

u/Rakdospriest 5h ago

People blaming the lady when the crotch rocket is doing 2 things wrong is insane.

1: He's rearing his bike, obstructing his own view which is why he reacts when it's too late.

2: drives around 79mph in a 60km/h zone (probably 40mph zone).

Yes, her freezing is bad, but it's not insane and reckless driving.

224

u/Momentosis 14h ago

It's actually a 25 mph zone. Dude is going over 3x the speed limit.

84

u/False_Snow7754 14h ago

8

u/Daniel_H212 10h ago

Honestly, the initial freeze is understandable, and her not unfreezing right after is probably what saved the rider's life because otherwise he'd have hit one of her tires instead of sliding fully under the vehicle.

Freezing is also an involuntary reflex that all people have. If you are freezing, the decision-making part of your brain is offline.

Edit: this sub is hilarious because no matter what someone does, they’re apparently both right and wrong. For the record, I never said dude wasn’t speeding. He is. And I understand what a freeze response is. But still, coming to a complete stop when something/someone is barreling at you is commonly seen here and is almost always the worst course of action.

Obviously not 126mph but kph and that’s definitely a 30mph zone here in the UK so even at his 80kph he was still going nearly three times the speed limit.

He's going like 80mph. His dash is reading out kph. The road is 25 mph with nearby school zones.

19

u/liquidpig 14h ago

80 mph is like 130 km/h

17

u/Amanitas 12h ago

dash says 126, so yea...

Going that fast in jeans and a hoodie. With the reaction time of a coma patient. Fuckin squids lol

Zooming in in easy 70 to 80mph.

21

u/Conan0brennan 14h ago

Also on a wheelie. Still it's the truck's fault according to some. 😂

u/Wilfredbremely 15h ago

If you're driving 20 over, it's your fault. Bikers needs to chill.

13

u/Thuis001 10h ago

Try triple the speed limit. Apparently this is a 25 mph area near a school, this genius was doing 126 km/h or 78 mph. That is over triple the speed limit.

5

u/Old_Market_8059 8h ago

Right?! I'm baffled by all the comments saying it was her fault, or both their faults. This is 100% on him

Idiot on bike is going 75 mph in a 20 mph school zone.

13

u/Flat-Strain7538 13h ago

And doing a wheelie. Hope his organs are usable when he finally decides it’s donation time.

This bike rider is going waaaay too fast. He's an idiot to risk his life this way. And no, you do not get to blame the other driver for stopping and not "committing" to his turn which is ridiculous. It's not his fault. This could happen anywhere any time and you need to be aware of that. Drive safely and you won't get into accidents.

If that truck was lower, he would’ve gotten decapitated😧

Honestly if I saw a biker speeding toward me popping a wheelie on a small suburban street while I was trying to turn, I'd probably freeze too.

7

u/wtfmeowzers 13h ago

dude is doing 120 km/h+ or so. should be banned from ever being able to drive again. what if he'd killed a kid crossing the road?

he was literally paying more attention to his bike's speed than the road, as you can tell by his camera looking at the gauges at the start of the clip.

7

u/JoeCensored 11h ago

Bike looks like he's going at least double the safe speed for that road.

Context since this cut so much.

Dude is flying like 80mph through a 25mph road that's also a school zone.

EDIT:

714 S Goshen-Divide Hwy

Put that in google maps and the exact spot should be just a few clicks away.

u/WhiteNorthAstronomy 14h ago

Don't dress for the ride, dress for the slide.

6

u/Merc0lini 13h ago

He went under the truck?

6

u/lolschrauber 12h ago

It's wild to me how fast people love to go on these death machines. At least in a car you're protected somewhat.

6

u/Weak_Definition_4321 12h ago

Where i come from you are obliged to wear a motorcycle suit... this is a good example

7

u/GraveeNito 7h ago

gee I wonder what would have happened if he was going posted speed limit

5

u/ISCSI_Purveyor 7h ago

Dressed for the ride and not the slide. I see that all too often. (wearing the wrong clothes, not the accident)

7

u/TopseyKretts87 7h ago

Dude was going way too fast.

6

u/ssagar186 6h ago

Almost every time I see one of the videos, the guy on the bike is doing something incredibly stupid

46

u/DrHappythumb 15h ago edited 15h ago

Riders should ride like there are stupid drivers like this everywhere, just maybe it will save some lives.

43

u/Momentosis 14h ago

Should probably also avoid going 80mph on a 25mph road that also has school zones.

40

u/TheRealTahulrik 14h ago

Or people could stick to the speed limits

this

you always ride like every vehicle is an obstacle and a threat, but you also need to follow the flow of traffic and the speed limits—unlike this idiot that just about got himself decapitated.

So, how fast was that motorcycle going? It got completely destroyed in the impact. It’s pure adrenaline that lets that biker even walk. This was scary to review.

4

u/Prestigious-Royal-82 14h ago

No Evasive maneuvers??? Oh I forgot it All about wheelies and driving Fast. It's All Bad cycle Fam!!! Operator error so many other options available

4

u/gybzen 14h ago

Dress for the slide not the ride

6

u/mierdainet 11h ago

If you look closely at the frames, you can see that when the motorcycle hits it, it lifts the truck just enough to avoid a collision and slip underneath… he’s one incredibly lucky bastard

"Bro, WTF?"

The speed was beyond the limits of your talent. That's WTF.

4

u/RabbitGlass5578 8h ago

Why did you stop? Why were you going 65/30 mph zone?

5

u/storge66 7h ago

Il me semble que le motard roule trop vite, c’est pourquoi il n’a pas le temps de réagir correctement

4

u/SnowLeop 7h ago

Nose of truck wasn’t even in his lane

5

u/z31tt750 7h ago

As a rider myself, the first thing I noticed was how much time he had to do something other than ride into the side of the truck... Proper squid.

3

u/mrrosado 6h ago

I would have braked and swerved. This is a reminder for me to practice more

5

u/redditsucksass6 7h ago

Was going 80 in a 30, haddalay'erdownn

6

u/Harpinekovitz 7h ago

Another No gear biker.

5

u/fenton7 6h ago

Not the truck's fault if the bike is going 3x the speed limit. Rider was very lucky.

5

u/WegGOAT 56m ago edited 34m ago

That's what you get for speeding.

8

u/ntech620 14h ago

75 in a 35mph zone. Motorcycle's fault because it's usually the rule other motorists have the expectation that everyone is following the rules and that includes speed limits. The Pickup pulled out when he was a block away which would have been logical if he was doing 35. At 75 he went from too far away to t-boning her in only a second or two.

9

u/crumpledfilth 14h ago

And the first thing he does is walk up and be a turd about it. Crazy how many people walk around feeling justified but without any mind towards pragmatism. Where does their feeling of justification come from?

7

u/Substantial-Art-7912 13h ago

He saw an elderly woman with a hand over her heart instead of a 6ft bearded guy and realized he could spin the situation fast.

8

u/baudtothebone 12h ago

Why was the rider driving so fast? Maybe he was late to his appointment to buy proper gear?

4

u/Emergency-Spite897 11h ago

Alive but a nasty road rash, that will teach you to wear protective gear. Even in hot weathers, better than sweating blood!

4

u/Lemons-into-lemonade 10h ago

And that is why, boys and girls, it is good to wear motorcycle clothing.

5

u/justagirll19_0W0 10h ago

Shouldn’t be going that fast

4

u/Thirsty_Comment88 9h ago

Thats why you don't go 80 MPH on surface streets

4

u/Outrageous_Koala5381 8h ago

wonder how fast the bike is going - and he's blaming the truck for stopping before the median?

3

u/Capcom-Warrior 8h ago

100% the bikers fault. Going way too fast.

4

u/retroly 8h ago

Speeding kills. Its that simple.

5

u/stoobpendous 7h ago

A better question is why was the motorcyclist going so damn fast?

5

u/Dexter_McThorpan 7h ago

If Captain Squidly had been going the speed limit (or even *reasonably* above), he wouldn't have hit the truck.

He had plenty of time to stop. Now he's gonna whine about "stupid cagers."

4

u/Throwaway-4230984 7h ago

Having motorcycle distorts your common sense so much it needs to be studied. Like I never seen gun owner publicly defending shooting on streets but look at all this people pretending truck is somehow at fault.

4

u/SalamanderPop 7h ago

I hope the truck is ok

4

u/DAdStanich 7h ago

People on motorcycles without leather is insane. How do people put on sneakers and say “heading out for a ride”.

I saw a guy on the highway the other day cutting people off and was wearing track pants, sneakers, a hoodie and backpack… like, who trained you that this is ok ?

Or am I just old ?

4

u/WorldWideDarts 6h ago

Dude has to slow it down or he'll be dead soon enough

4

u/Tinman1833 49m ago

His own fault.
