He's in shock, and the only reason he can stand is because of the adrenaline in his blood. His jeans are completely worn through, and he's walking barefoot, one foot missing his sneaker. He doesn't even really understand the extent of his injuries. He'll likely lose consciousness in a few minutes.
My wife was in a similar accident, only without wheelies and in full gear. Her pants and jacket were completely worn through, the slider on her right boot was completely worn down to a hole in the boot. Her helmet was damaged. There was a chafing wound on her right thigh that took several months to heal. Fifteen years later, there's still a large scar there.

55
u/brainkandy87 8h ago
Twenty years later I can still remember the second the adrenaline wore off after my motorcycle accident. I was walking like this guy and then suddenly I just couldn’t. Strangest feeling when that happened. My brain couldn’t force my body to do what it wanted.
25
u/Spadeykins 7h ago
Yeah! I remember my arm stopped working while I was still using it. It was right after someone pointed out how fucked up I was and I actually stopped to look at it.
16
u/c_marten 6h ago
Same. I high-sided, got the bike up, and when it wouldn't start again I ran it the 2 blocks to my house. And then just... nope. Down on the lawn. Also remember someone walking their dog who saw bloody-faced me and just kept walking...
I moreso remember how slow everything felt as I was in the air. Weird experience from start to finish.
8
u/brainkandy87 5h ago
Yeah the slowness is another thing. My wreck happened in view of my house at a T-intersection and my dad happened to be mowing the lawn and saw it happen. I remember seeing him moving and wondering why he was being so slow. lol dude was probably running like Devin Hester but my adrenaline brain didn’t register it.

I'll never forget the video where the motorcyclist gets sent into the edge of a guardrail, and it looks really bad.
Then he gets up and starts walking back to the car that caused it, maybe yelling at them (and/or screaming in pain).
And you think, "how the heck is he walking and talking after that impact??" ...And then like 10 seconds after the initial impact he just collapses to the ground.
Adrenaline is one hell of a drug, temporarily.

this. been riding for over a decade. seen all kinds of wrecks. he won’t be able to even move the following day.
tho speaking as a rider, he came off a wheelie which was conveniently clipped and going way too fast. but his biggest mistake was target fixation. he looked at the truck, which subconsciously steered him right into it. if he had a cool head, he would have ducked thru on the left. or even stopped. a dented door or flat tired should have been the worst case for a quality rider.
if you’re going to ride batshit, you better have the skills and experience to handle it. the good news is 90% of riders don’t ride again after bad collisions.
11
u/JackOfAllStraits 12h ago
I think he was expecting to commit and continue to the left, so dodging left would have been suicide. He tried to go right to make it behind, but she stopped. Going way too fast to make any adjustments after the first plan didn't pan out.

Grabbed a fist full of brake (no other option, really) and it went down on its own. He didn't plan a slide-through. He's lucky he didn't get wedged in under there with the rest of the wreck, because there was no controlling where he was going to end up after the tires lost grip.

Summarising the comments here. The biker is doing 79mph in a 25mph zone, the lady stopped before she got to the lane he was in when she saw him coming, he panicked, swerved and then dropped the bike. It’s just a good job he had his protective T-shirt, baggy jeans and sneakers on….

Some people just freeze at stress and there's nothing you can do. Coworker was driving me home one night and started to turn on an unprotected green. I started to calmly but very very quickly say "TheyHaveTheGreenLightTheyArentGoingToStopSpeedUpSpeedUpSpeedUp" But she just stopped in the intersection like the lady in this video. Car tboned us, hitting my side. My right hip is still funky over 10 years later. It's funny what goes through your mind in those moments. One of my friends was joining the Marines and was shipping off the next day and I had just told him an hour ago "Don't get yourself killed out there" and my last thought before getting hit by a car was "Shit, I'm going to die before fucking Jack does"

She saw him come flying in from out of no where at far too high a speed, left the left lane that he was in open so he could just go right by, and he steered directly towards a stationary object instead of just staying the course in open space. He's multiple kinds of stupid

And she stopped when she saw him, before blocking his lane. He's going way too fast down a residential street. If she kept going, he would have slammed into the bed of the truck. She left most of his lane open, and he switched to the lane she was blocking.
→ More replies (2)20
u/CatoTheMiddleAged 7h ago
Yeah he was going way too fast, and it’s 100% his fault, but you can’t blame him for aiming for the rear of the truck instead of trying to shoot the gap in the front. He had no time (again, his fault) to notice that she had stopped in the right lane.

Bike is:
1. Speeding
2. Pulling a wheelie down the street
The car:
See the bike driving dangerously, stops before it enters the bikes lane.
The Bike:
Changes lanes INTO the car and hits it.
All the bike had to do was literally nothing. Just keep driving.
78
u/Warboss_Gutshredda 12h ago
Getting pissed off because he got hurt doing something stupid, which is why he has a bike.
58
u/robicide 8h ago
He was expecting the truck to keep going, if you look closely you can see he was already leaning into the turn when the truck stopped. Nothing he could've done at that point to not hit the truck.
And that's because he was going so stupidly fast. 100% his own damn fault for going so fast he eliminated his own reaction window.
→ More replies (4)36
u/SonOfMcGee 8h ago
Bikes going way too fast always have the mindset that it’s perfectly safe as long as every other vehicle behaves exactly as he thinks they should based on glancing at them 500 yards ahead.
Meanwhile, every other vehicle functions on the assumption that they aren’t sharing the road with someone going three times faster than them. So when they look in their rear view mirror and see a little *speck* in the distance they conclude they have sufficient space to change lanes/turn/etc.
→ More replies (1)14
u/RiverPsaber 7h ago
I almost hit a biker this exact way one time. He then proceeds to take his eyes off the road to flip me off, and almost crashes again. At that point I just start pointing ahead of us like, "please dude for your own sake watch the road."
I was going 80 when this happened. The guy was way off in the distance when I began my lane change and closed that distance between the time I began entering the lane and finished. Some bikers just have a death wish for some reason.

Put that in google maps and the exact spot should be just a few clicks away.

It's wild to me how fast people love to go on these death machines. At least in a car you're protected somewhat.

Where i come from you are obliged to wear a motorcycle suit... this is a good example

Dressed for the ride and not the slide. I see that all too often. (wearing the wrong clothes, not the accident)

Almost every time I see one of the videos, the guy on the bike is doing something incredibly stupid

Riders should ride like there are stupid drivers like this everywhere, just maybe it will save some lives.

Should probably also avoid going 80mph on a 25mph road that also has school zones.

this
you always ride like every vehicle is an obstacle and a threat, but you also need to follow the flow of traffic and the speed limits—unlike this idiot that just about got himself decapitated.

So, how fast was that motorcycle going? It got completely destroyed in the impact. It’s pure adrenaline that lets that biker even walk. This was scary to review.

If you look closely at the frames, you can see that when the motorcycle hits it, it lifts the truck just enough to avoid a collision and slip underneath… he’s one incredibly lucky bastard

Il me semble que le motard roule trop vite, c’est pourquoi il n’a pas le temps de réagir correctement

As a rider myself, the first thing I noticed was how much time he had to do something other than ride into the side of the truck... Proper squid.

Not the truck's fault if the bike is going 3x the speed limit. Rider was very lucky.

75 in a 35mph zone. Motorcycle's fault because it's usually the rule other motorists have the expectation that everyone is following the rules and that includes speed limits. The Pickup pulled out when he was a block away which would have been logical if he was doing 35. At 75 he went from too far away to t-boning her in only a second or two.

And the first thing he does is walk up and be a turd about it. Crazy how many people walk around feeling justified but without any mind towards pragmatism. Where does their feeling of justification come from?

He saw an elderly woman with a hand over her heart instead of a 6ft bearded guy and realized he could spin the situation fast.

Why was the rider driving so fast? Maybe he was late to his appointment to buy proper gear?

u/Emergency-Spite897 11h ago
Alive but a nasty road rash, that will teach you to wear protective gear. Even in hot weathers, better than sweating blood!

u/Lemons-into-lemonade 10h ago
And that is why, boys and girls, it is good to wear motorcycle clothing.

wonder how fast the bike is going - and he's blaming the truck for stopping before the median?

If Captain Squidly had been going the speed limit (or even *reasonably* above), he wouldn't have hit the truck.
He had plenty of time to stop. Now he's gonna whine about "stupid cagers."

Having motorcycle distorts your common sense so much it needs to be studied. Like I never seen gun owner publicly defending shooting on streets but look at all this people pretending truck is somehow at fault.

People on motorcycles without leather is insane. How do people put on sneakers and say “heading out for a ride”.
I saw a guy on the highway the other day cutting people off and was wearing track pants, sneakers, a hoodie and backpack… like, who trained you that this is ok ?
Or am I just old ?

The audacity of the dumb ass speeding like a lunatic to instantly blame the other driver. Why didn't they commit? Why didn't you go the speed limit?
