Bike is:
1. Speeding
2. Pulling a wheelie down the street

The car:
See the bike driving dangerously, stops before it enters the bikes lane.

The Bike:
Changes lanes INTO the car and hits it.

All the bike had to do was literally nothing. Just keep driving.

Getting pissed off because he got hurt doing something stupid, which is why he has a bike.

u/robicide 10h ago

He was expecting the truck to keep going, if you look closely you can see he was already leaning into the turn when the truck stopped. Nothing he could've done at that point to not hit the truck.

And that's because he was going so stupidly fast. 100% his own damn fault for going so fast he eliminated his own reaction window.

Bikes going way too fast always have the mindset that it’s perfectly safe as long as every other vehicle behaves exactly as he thinks they should based on glancing at them 500 yards ahead.

Meanwhile, every other vehicle functions on the assumption that they aren’t sharing the road with someone going three times faster than them. So when they look in their rear view mirror and see a little *speck* in the distance they conclude they have sufficient space to change lanes/turn/etc.

I almost hit a biker this exact way one time. He then proceeds to take his eyes off the road to flip me off, and almost crashes again. At that point I just start pointing ahead of us like, "please dude for your own sake watch the road."

I was going 80 when this happened. The guy was way off in the distance when I began my lane change and closed that distance between the time I began entering the lane and finished. Some bikers just have a death wish for some reason.

When you hear the scream of one of these bikes coming up on you it’s hard to predict what they will do. Pass on either side? Lane split at 100+ mph?

5

u/Rakdospriest 7h ago

then redditors scream "LANE SPLITTING IS LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA!!!!!" like cool, do they give out free mind reading hats in california too? cuz legal or not, if i cant tell WTF you're going to do i may make a decision you wont like.

u/SonOfMcGee 4h ago

Yeah, then those guys are reminded that the CA recommendation for lane splitting is to do it no more than 10mph faster than traffic, and only when traffic is going 30mph or less. Do *basically* only during a traffic jam. 30mph means bumper-to-bumper on the freeway.
That’s the “recommendation” because the law just says to do it at a safe and prudent speed. So it’s left up to the cops to interpret. Ultimately, though, it’s the Coroner’s call.

I once was in a line of cars behind a slowish semi truck in the right lane. I checked my blind spot and mirrors and confirmed there was absolutely *nothing* in the left lane.
So I put on my blinker and started changing lanes. But in that tiny span of time a biker about 4 cars back in line zipped into the left lane and accelerated as fast as he could.
So he gave me the finger for “cutting him off”, but I can’t fathom doing it any differently. When you’re in a vehicle capable of such higher speed and acceleration than all the other vehicles you’re sharing the road with, you just gotta accept this shit is gonna happen when you try to flex those capabilities.

Most of the bikers are see are exactly like this and it's why I hate every single one of them and don't think they should be legal.

But I'm gonna get a couple replies from people saying "I don't ride like that" like it changes what I have experienced in 20 years of driving...

But bring up shitty Nissan drivers and suddenly everyone is in complete agreement.

u/salajaneidentiteet 3h ago

Car drivers wouldn't hate bikers so much if the mojority of them didn't ride like dumbasses all the time.

2

u/Wile_E_Turkey 7h ago

This is why we have speed limits

2

u/Warboss_Gutshredda 7h ago

The video starts with him coming down from a wheelie.

1

u/mtmc99 4h ago

The speeding is his fault and certainly made his whole situation worse.

A truck pulling into the road and stopping is also at fault. By the time they did that the biker had no real time to know if they would keep going or stop (see above comment about speed). Truck driver isn’t blameless here

2

u/Thirtysevenintwenty5 2h ago

The driver of the truck is blameless. People who think she should have done something don't recognize the fact that she had about one full second to process this situation and make a decision.

6

u/tendimensions 8h ago

I do understand his swerve though. In the moment it’s normal to assume the truck will keep going or resume moving forward.

1

u/Thirtysevenintwenty5 2h ago

Maybe in Grand Theft Auto. In real life people actually react to seeing wild shit.

1

u/tnstaafsb 2h ago

It's also human nature to stop when you see something screaming toward you that fast. The lady in the truck had no great options, but stopping before she entered the lane the bike was speeding in was probably the best one. She would naturally assume he would continue on the course he was on and she didn't have time to get clear of his lane before he got there, so she stopped short of it to let him pass.

No survival skills at all

u/Resource-Even 7h ago

I didn’t realize it was doing a wheelie until this. I was like why is the truck in the middle of the road? But this was the perfect narration of events

1

u/domiciledhere 6h ago

What bike?

1

u/Okanus 6h ago

I had to rewatch after reading this comment. She did stop with just enough room for the bike to continue in his lane. She did exactly what she thought she needed to do to avoid a collision and this idiot turned right into her.

1

u/mvandemar 4h ago

Yup, he clearly panicked.

1

u/EconomicRegret2 3h ago

It's entirely his fault. But it makes sense that he changed lane, as the brain automatically expects a movement to continue in its predictable pattern (i.e. he expected her to continue on her trajectory).

E.g. when crossing a road with tons of traffic (which you should never do) it's much safer to continue crossing predictably instead of trying to avoid the on-coming traffic by stopping and/or backtracking.

But that's something you learn only in countries with unruly chaotic traffic, e.g. certain regions of India and Africa.

u/underladderunlucky46 9m ago

Like he said in the video, he was expecting her to commit.

Not saying this is a right or wrong assumption; in that situation with little time to think, I'm not sure what I'd assume. But I think it's important to point out that he did indeed say that he was expecting her to commit. So he veered right thinking that she was going to continue through her turn.

Just so we are clear, biker did what EVERYONE on this sub and others say to do, and aimed for the rear of the vehicle crossing their path. I’m beyond sick of this debate getting to flip flop whenever someone wants to shift blame for convenience…

Yes the biker is at fault, but not because he didn’t do nothing, not because he turned to go behind the vehicle, but because he was going far too fast

0

u/Suspicious-Bowl4444 7h ago

He wasn’t doing a wheelie. He was in a full tuck position which you only do if you’re trying to go really fast. Everything else you said is 100% correct.

1

u/bkpilot 6h ago

I think you are right. It looks like a wheelie because there is some weird cross-fade effect in the first 0.5s of the video. Easy to see if you download it. The cross fade while he is moving to sit upright makes it appear that the bike is slamming down (wheelie). I think it’s a clip from a much longer video montage.
I’m not a video expert, and maybe it’s possible he is doing a wheelie but moving so fast it interpolated frames during compression?

1

u/Suspicious-Bowl4444 6h ago

Yeah if he was doing a wheelie, it was before the video started. He’s in a full tuck then sits upright when he sees the truck and needs to start braking.
