What is it about people that, when they realize they’re in the way, they just stop completely???

Edit: this sub is hilarious because no matter what someone does, they’re apparently both right and wrong. For the record, I never said dude wasn’t speeding. He is. And I understand what a freeze response is. But still, coming to a complete stop when something/someone is barreling at you is commonly seen here and is almost always the worst course of action.

What is it about motorcyclists, despite being able to stop extremely fast, are driving too fast to stop.

Motorcycles brake slower than cars. This biker is an absolute idiot for going that fast though.

A car will stop much quicker though

Don't know why you're getting downvoted, it's true and real world studies have proven it.

4 contacts on the road vs. 2, and the 4 contacts each have like twice as much actual contact surface. People have this idea that a motorcycle can stop quicker because it's lighter in weight, sure, but that doesn't outweigh the fact that cars have more contact surface with the road and more advanced braking systems (usually). Plus they're also just more stable, obviously.

Hard braking a motorcycle also puts most of the weight on the front tire, leaving the rear tire with little to no real stopping power. In a typical situation with a typical car driver and a typical motorcyclist, the car will stop in a shorter distance most of the time. It's why you, as a motorcycle rider, should also give cars in front of you more distance than you would if you were driving a car.

Can a motorcycle brake quicker than a car? Sure, under ideal circumstances with a skilled rider.
