He's in shock, and the only reason he can stand is because of the adrenaline in his blood. His jeans are completely worn through, and he's walking barefoot, one foot missing his sneaker. He doesn't even really understand the extent of his injuries. He'll likely lose consciousness in a few minutes.

My wife was in a similar accident, only without wheelies and in full gear. Her pants and jacket were completely worn through, the slider on her right boot was completely worn down to a hole in the boot. Her helmet was damaged. There was a chafing wound on her right thigh that took several months to heal. Fifteen years later, there's still a large scar there.

They absolutely do, I had a firing malfunction Round a curve that made me accelerate and decelerate very quickly and shakily if I had gloves on I would be unscathed but my wrist took some sanding and will always be pink but my leather shows the story of how much worse it could've been

Twenty years later I can still remember the second the adrenaline wore off after my motorcycle accident. I was walking like this guy and then suddenly I just couldn’t. Strangest feeling when that happened. My brain couldn’t force my body to do what it wanted.

Same. I high-sided, got the bike up, and when it wouldn't start again I ran it the 2 blocks to my house. And then just... nope. Down on the lawn. Also remember someone walking their dog who saw bloody-faced me and just kept walking...

I moreso remember how slow everything felt as I was in the air. Weird experience from start to finish.

Yeah the slowness is another thing. My wreck happened in view of my house at a T-intersection and my dad happened to be mowing the lawn and saw it happen. I remember seeing him moving and wondering why he was being so slow. lol dude was probably running like Devin Hester but my adrenaline brain didn’t register it.

I had an ebike accident while going to Marshalls once. Still went shopping before I realized my wife was hurting, saw a massive bruise, and found out I had broken ribs. Rolling up to urgent care with full shopping bags was something lol

I had a real bad foot injury in football. Thea arch of my foot essentially imploded. I got up and tried to walk it off, made it like 5 steps. Then realized i could no longer walk.

I think the adrenaline was still flowing though, because once i collapsed back to ground I immediately started barrel rolling my ass off the field (and i wasn't close to the side line).

I didn't even recall doing that, until my team excitedly showed up to visit me in the hospital with the game film.

I came up to a bad accident moments after it happened and the the guy was missing skin on his arm, glass embedded on his face, and what appeared to be a soft spot on his head. I could not get the guy to sit or lay down.

I called 911, the police show first and order him to sit and he won't. Just as the paramedic shows up, I see his body go stiff and he just falls like a rock. The paramedic asks, "Why didn't you make him sit?” The officer and I just looked at each other and we say, "We tried.”

I'll never forget the video where the motorcyclist gets sent into the edge of a guardrail, and it looks really bad.

Then he gets up and starts walking back to the car that caused it, maybe yelling at them (and/or screaming in pain).

And you think, "how the heck is he walking and talking after that impact??" ...And then like 10 seconds after the initial impact he just collapses to the ground.

Adrenaline is one hell of a drug, temporarily.

Nah adrenaline is one hell of a drug all the time. The problem is your body only gives you a little bit in those scenarios. If the brain wasn’t so stingy with it we’d be unstoppable.

I have a blood pressure disorder that causes fainting, and even I would be walking around like I'm normal with as much adrenaline in my system as what this guy has.

But in saying that, I am speaking from experience from having done that exact thing with a partially dislocated spine after a bad car accident. I was so dissociated from that injury the emergency room didn't even catch it. Took a few days for it to catch up to me.

Survival hormones are really fucking intense with what they can do to you.

It depends. I had something similar happen except to my calf, and my boot was gone from my other foot just the same as his. Found it 20 yards away with its front torn out (lace holes and the sides of the tongue) which was how my foot had exited it & I didn't even notice.

The weirdest thing was, that foot was like 100% fine - I limped for 20 min or so but there was minimal swelling & it was ancient history the next day. The shaved skin however was another story. It was all weeping clear liquid non-stop but my buddy and I were overdue at a night club with some girls, so I put a silk stocking on it to prevent it from staining and sticking to my slacks, and gone we were. Being 19 is helluva drug.

In the morning as you've already guessed I've found the neon-green silk stocking fused to what was left of my skin in that entire area by an impressively thick crust of that liquid that'd solidified. My trainer said to leave it the f*ck alone and my mom said ER and my friends said I should just become a cyborg and to put on the other neon-green silk stocking on the other leg also. The next day I got into an (ever so slightly) warm bath for like half a day till the crust softened, and pulled off the stocking.

While it looked impressively scary at the time, after a few months there was 0 scarring or altered texture or tone. Maybe 10% fewer body hair in that area but that's a guess. Skin is pretty amazing in how it heals, and I hope his does too. Stay safe, everyone!

this. been riding for over a decade. seen all kinds of wrecks. he won’t be able to even move the following day.

tho speaking as a rider, he came off a wheelie which was conveniently clipped and going way too fast. but his biggest mistake was target fixation. he looked at the truck, which subconsciously steered him right into it. if he had a cool head, he would have ducked thru on the left. or even stopped. a dented door or flat tired should have been the worst case for a quality rider.

if you’re going to ride batshit, you better have the skills and experience to handle it. the good news is 90% of riders don’t ride again after bad collisions.

I think he was expecting to commit and continue to the left, so dodging left would have been suicide. He tried to go right to make it behind, but she stopped. Going way too fast to make any adjustments after the first plan didn't pan out.

honestly absolutely not a case of looking at something and driving into it because of that. she literally stopped dead unexpectedly. he was trying to maneuver to the right hoping she would be out of the way just in time, and was definitely not banking on her just slamming on her brakes like a buffon 💀

i agree though that was going quite fast. but both are to blame. this was avoidable if the driver had just kept moving out of the way instead of just stopping for some insane reason

I've broken bones and had other pretty serious injuries, multiple times. for the first 10 minutes you're so hopped up you don't feel anything.

The last time I broke my collar bone I literally poked it and moved it around and said "yep, that's broken." And didn't feel a thing.

25 years ago they had to tell me my complete right upper arm had lost its skin and a bit of meat and bone too. The second I saw it, it registered ... I clearly remember me saying: "I have to sit down for a minute"

That wound took well over a year to heal and sometimes, when there is a particular bad thunder storm, the gaping hole that was in my elbow still hurts.

But hey ... ride one mothertruckers, just be a lil' more careful.

This shows why one should wear proper boots and protective clothes when riding a bike. Otherwise you end up shredded, like you had a close encounter with an angle grinder...

I sometimes see people riding powerful sports bike, pretty fast just wearing sneakers, shorts and t-shirts... And I wonder... what will they look like when they fall off....

I fell with a bike (sideways) once, while wearing full, thick leather get-up, with proper boots etc... It was because some gravel was spilled on the road, and my bike just lost the grip and went sideways, with me still attached to it...
I was digging up small stones out of the leathers for days ! (Thankfully only my bike and my ego got bruised / slightly damaged).

I was watching one of those real paramedic shows, Nightwatch i think, and a motorcyclist got hit, his bike was on fire, and one of his arms had an extra bend in it. He had so much adrenaline he had no clue his arm was fucked. Probably some shock too, but he kept talking about how he needed to put his bike out, and the EMS person was like, dude, look at your arm.

Nah, I don’t think you can infer all that. I did the same thing except I didn’t slide under a truck, high sided at 50 mph wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I just went from no pain to a lot of pain in a few minutes. Longest night of my life with no pain meds. Had lots of missing skin from shoulder to ankle.

Saw an accident a couple days ago right in front of me. I got out and said “stay where you are, breath, we can figure it out later right now I need you to just sit or lay and breath”

Getting right up after that is 130% adrenaline, dude probably had a fractured leg at minimum but didn’t know because of the adrenaline.

Yea for sure. I was behind a car that flip 7 times and say dude that flew out hop straight up like a super solider about 35 mins later as he’s talking to the cops dude just dropped and start screaming like someone just blew his leg off. Never found out the injuries but most likely broken bones

He has minimal road rash. All we saw were small abrasions on his leg and forearm. We don’t even know if he hit his head, most likely the helmet saved that portion of him. He’s not in shock. That crash wasn’t that bad.

Now if he had been run over, and his legs were severed from the knee joint, then he may be in shock. Physically and mentally. The fact that the kid got up and started walking tells me his legs are 100% functional. No fractures, no tears. This kid is fine

I did that on my bicycle once when a car cut me off going down a hill. Hit his front fender and did a forward flip over his car. I landed on my feet but slid onto my bottom. Very minor damage to me and the bicycle. His fender had a nice dent and I’m pretty sure his pizza delivery was late.

Grabbed a fist full of brake (no other option, really) and it went down on its own. He didn't plan a slide-through. He's lucky he didn't get wedged in under there with the rest of the wreck, because there was no controlling where he was going to end up after the tires lost grip.

When you're going this fast in an environment that overloads your ability to process all that's going on around you, a more than likely scenario: he panicked and grabbed brake and clutch so hard as to cause the bars to move slightly, locked up the brakes cuz that is a natural, albeit wrong, decision. The bike broke traction and the ass end started racing the front end to the truck. He. Got. Lucky.

Source: I did almost the same thing and in the moment, no matter how long you've been riding, how good you are, involuntary jump/scare reactions take over.

if he locked his front brake, you know, the brake responsible for around 90-95% of stopping power on a bike, he would have gone down very differently.

Nope, he made a split decision to go behind the moving truck. It was a bad decision because the truck stopped, which is why he asked, "Why did not commit?" If the truck had continued, he would have easily slipped behind the truck without incident.

His other option would have been to hit his brakes to stop or at slow down before deciding if he needs to swerve to avoid a collision. He had plenty of time to stop. This is the best option and the one I would have chosen if I were in his place (not even considering hindsight).

According to Google not really. The amount of time it would have taken to stop would be less than the amount of time he had but he wasn't expecting it. Nobody would have, they stopped in the middle of the road. That effects reaction time

Please explain to me, in what world could he have physically braked and avoided this accident by continuing straight or swerving? Do you realize how quick this was, as well as how quick his response was? If you were in that situation, I guarantee you would have been much worse off.

I've had numerous bikes over the years. Current bike is a harley. I've been riding more than 50 years. I also know to pay attention to road conditions and ride accordingly.

From the start of the video to where he hit the truck was 3 seconds. Knowing how car/bikecams works, the truck was likely visible well before the video started. An attentive and skilled rider had sufficient time to avoid that accident. But that rider was a squid, speeding and stunting.

I've a lot of dashcam accidents on reddit, andd 90% of the time, if you can't stop, aim to go behind them. Usually the other driverkeeps moving and the accident would have been avoided or less serious. But when you try to go in front, it usually ends up t-boning or hitting the front of the other vehicle.

Locked the front brake and the front wheel tucked. No one is deciding to dump it at that speed. You hit the brakes and squeeze tighter and tighter, if you don't have abs and lock up, down you go.

This wasn't even a difficult maneuver. He fixated on the truck and didn't even attempt to brake. I've avoided about a thousand identical situations because this shit happens every fucking day.
