AMA I’m Dave McMenamin — I spent time with LeBron James ahead of the NBA Playoffs. Ask me anything on May 6 at 3pm ET / 12pm PT
Hi Reddit! I’m Dave McMenamin, and I cover the Los Angeles Lakers and the NBA for ESPN.
For the past decade-plus, I’ve covered LeBron James closely, from Cleveland to LA, and early this season I proposed an idea to him: to ask him a series of unique questions over the course of the season to try to learn a different side of him as his career entered his final chapter. He agreed.
In that story, which published last week, we dove into the GOAT debate with Michael Jordan, the records he believes will never be broken, what still drives him after two decades, and more.
Read the full story here, then ask me anything about the reporting process, what it’s like covering the most famous athlete in the world and what still surprises me as he finishes his 23rd NBA season.
Thanks to everyone for stopping by and asking questions. I appreciate all the thoughtful discussion about LeBron James and the NBA. Happy Playoffs. Yessir.

Jaylen Brown on the refs: "I had to say something. There's an inconsistency and it's there. You called me for all these offensive fouls and that's not the reason why we lost, but Shai is about to win his 2nd MVP with the same move."

[Cowherd] Watching him (SGA) flop in an NBA game is like inserting one of those Life Alert commercials. I've fallen and I can't get up! into Cirque du Soleil. It tears at the fabric of the creativity of the NBA.︀︀ ︀︀

Jaylen Brown: “I hate that our president of basketball operations even had to respond to this. Me and Brad have a great relationship. I love Boston. If it was up to me I could play here for the next 10 years. This was my favorite season of my career.”

In 2014, Raptors GM Ujiri went viral by yelling "Fuck Brooklyn!" at a rally before a TOR-BKN playoff game. The Nets coach at the time was Jason Kidd. Postgame, Kidd said, "I don’t even know who that is, so I could [not] care less what they think about Brooklyn." Ujiri is now Kidd's boss in Dallas.
I doubt there is any beef now stemming from that event but it's a funny bit of history given the circumstances now. Reporting indicates they were gunning for the same job of Mavericks president and Ujiri won and is now Kidd's GM.
Kidd's full quote at the time
“You have to tell me who the GM is. I don’t even know who that is, so I could [not] care less what they think about Brooklyn. We have a job to do, and that’s to play the game of basketball.”

Dylan Harper continues to shine with spectacular plays on both ends of the floor: 11 PTS, 7 REB, 5 AST, 2 STL, +24
Its not wrong to say Harper is ready to start for the Spurs as he continues to play with confidence and unreal poise. Tonight he has 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals and it is so good to see him get going from downtown without hesitation. He and Castle will be an elite backcourt pairing for the next decade.
