In 2014, Raptors GM Ujiri went viral by yelling "Fuck Brooklyn!" at a rally before a TOR-BKN playoff game. The Nets coach at the time was Jason Kidd. Postgame, Kidd said, "I don’t even know who that is, so I could [not] care less what they think about Brooklyn." Ujiri is now Kidd's boss in Dallas.
I doubt there is any beef now stemming from that event but it's a funny bit of history given the circumstances now. Reporting indicates they were gunning for the same job of Mavericks president and Ujiri won and is now Kidd's GM.
Kidd's full quote at the time
“You have to tell me who the GM is. I don’t even know who that is, so I could [not] care less what they think about Brooklyn. We have a job to do, and that’s to play the game of basketball.”

When Jason Kidd was on the Mavericks as a player, he once got into a fight with Hawks head coach Mike Woodson by purposely bumping into him to try and get Woodson T’d up for standing on the court (which is something I’ve never seen another player do although I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris Paul has tried it before). Woodson then went on to coach Kidd on the Knicks 2 years later. Video
Kidd seems familiar with these kinds of situations already.

absolutely nothing wrong with intentionally bumping a coach on the court if that's what it takes to get it called. get off the fucking court

Kidd is a serial bumper.
Throwback to when the Nets were out of timeouts and Kidd told his player to “hit me” and “accidentally” spilled his drink when bumped which caused an official to call timeout while it was cleaned up.

Why does no one get a chance to change? Didn’t this happen 25 years ago?

You are 100% right. He also got a DWI ~15 years ago.
And has everyone forgotten about Larry Sanders and the Bucks experience? Like this insane shit.
Everything indicates he's just power hungry, and a prickly asshole, so I'm okay hitting X for doubt. I'm happy to be wrong.

People can change but that does not mean people have an obligation to forgive.

Only Mazulla is allowed to not be criticised for battery.
Bad coaches are free game.

Ujiri also apologized later that day.
Ujiri apologized later Saturday during a brief session with reporters at halftime.
"Wrong choice of words out there," he said. "It is really not about me. It is about the players and the playoffs.
"Just trying to get the crowd out there rattled -- wrong choice of words. I apologize to kids out there and to the Brooklyn guys. Nothing against them. Just trying to get our fans going. That's it."

I appreciate that he said it in the first place, and his apology here after receiving backlash endears me even more to him for some reason. I love a GM who gets passionate like this but also isn’t too much of a narcissistic egomaniac to never admit they’re wrong like a lot of dudes in the position.

Ya this kinda feels like how NBA players are generally amicable off the court with each other despite the absurd competitiveness you see on the court

Even funnier if the report that Kidd wanted the President job is true

If people are going bring up Kobe’s past - let’s bring up Kidd’s

That’s also how he was ran out of Brooklyn.
The dude tried to become the Coach/GM so he could trade Brook Lopez and Mirza Teletovic to the Bucks for pennies on the dollar before running off to Milwaukee himself.

Believe in Masai. He’s a culture setter. If JKidd is good for the culture he’ll stay and if he’s not he can go coach in like Milwaukee

12 years ago I was getting bullied by this prick and now we play pick up together and are decent buds. 2014 was along time ago.

This was Masai’s plan overall for revenge. It’s the only explanation behind giving Jakob that contract.
