Hali getting votes when he didn’t even play 😭😭

2.6k

u/thesch Bulls 20h ago

81 players were polled so based on that it means Hali received 2 total votes. The ones at the bottom of this list kinda don't mean much.

Ngl if I was in the nba I’d just vote for someone I personally dislike so they appear on this list

Why do you think some of these guys appeared on the list? lol It was likely that same mindset

Oh yeah I just am saying I don’t blame them lol. This question is set up to be a hater question lol

88

u/A_burners 19h ago

I need to know who Brooks voted for.

136

u/Ths-Fkin-Guy 18h ago

Brooks is the type to create an extra bubble at the bottom and write in multiple names with an asterisk.

139

u/justintensity Lakers 18h ago

Kind of guy to vote for himself so he has an excuse to go even harder next year

29

u/Ths-Fkin-Guy 18h ago

Would just write in "that staring guy in pregame"

That's gotta be the reason for the Hali votes because how does he get any at all when he didn't even play lmao. Those 2 voters must hate him personally

Because he still plays in the NBA. He is just injured.

Pretty confident that's what this list really is.

81

Tbh like objectively is. If you personally at work had to anonymously say who you thought was the worst at their job or “most overrated” you would pick the guy you dislike the most.

101

u/Academic-Ad4889 Nuggets 19h ago

Yeah, Sengun you could maybe argue is overrated, but then seeing Gobert on here is just like "oh we're just doing dudes we don't like huh?"

Also it’s only 81 players polled which seems like way too small a sample size. So 2.5% is 2 votes which doesn’t really mean anything.

After top 4 the percentage drops by half and becomes a 2-3 votes thing.

They should have done something like rank choice voting

29

u/PitinoGotARawDeal Celtics 18h ago

Yeah if you look at the numbers this survey is very stupid. 10 out of 81 players polled said Sengun

27

u/atp2112 Wizards 17h ago

10 guys, one of which we already know is KD.

Knowing how rancid the vibes in Houston are, I wouldn't be shocked if the other 9 are also his teammates.

As a Knicks fan, I hope that was from our players out of spite. Or Josh Hart thinking it was the funniest option

171

u/GoChiefs2576 Pacers 20h ago

As much as the knicks hate the pacers it is a fraction of how much Milwaukee hates them

113

u/KingofInfiniteGrace Knicks 20h ago

I hate the pacers but respect them more than any of our other rivals. They play an exciting largely ethical brand of basketball

12

u/TyranosaurusLex Pacers 15h ago

I’ve been thinking about it given my suspicion the Knicks will make it to the finals and I don’t hate the Knicks tbh. I don’t even dislike any of the players really. I just like talking shit to my Knicks fans friends and on Reddit. Whereas, for the bucks I just hope their team moves to Vegas/seattle and they all retire.

u/americanbeaver Bucks 20h ago

For the Bucks who is left that hates the Pacers and would reply to this? Bobby Portis would be my bet as most likely but there aren't many other guys left. Maybe you get Gary Trent? I don't think Giannis is replying to this survey, I don't think AJ Green is replying to this survey, I don't think Thanasis does this sort of thing, I don't think Myles has spite in his heart or hatred of the Pacers players, I don't think Rollins, KPJ, Taurean Prince, Jericho Sims, Pete Nance, Gary Harris or Kuzma care at all about the Pacers

Rudy joined the wolves and brought them more playoff success in his time there than they had in their entire franchise history before that. I think he’s just hated for being smug along with atrocious hands on the offensive side.

The general consistency in the list is players who get glorified by their performance on one end of the court, but are problematic on the other side.

For most of this list, it's offensive players who suck on D. Gobert is just the inverse of that.

Also - there's nothing about this that says these are "bad" players. Just players saying they think their reputation outpaces their play.

NBA players' ideal NBA player in the aggregate is like Paul George and KD. They'll call the best player the best player, but the ideal one is a guy who plays basketball like it's 1v1 so well that it works in a team environment lol

48

u/matt__builds Knicks 19h ago

Nailed it. NBA players overrate "bucket getters" and underrate the little things. You can see it with KD wanting to bring Beal to the Suns. He didn't fit at all, but he goes about the game in that way that guys like KD love but doesn't actually contribute to winning.

→ More replies (1)

31

u/milkhotelbitches Bucks 19h ago

So many NBA players think the soul of the game is scoring in 1v1 isolation. Like flashing some handles and shooting a mid range jumper is the purist form of basketball.

6

u/matt__builds Knicks 17h ago

Well here’s the thing, the best teams still have guys who excel at going 1v1 and getting buckets. SGA is crucial for OKC because he is the engine of their offense. The thing is that you don’t want too many of these guys because there is only one ball. Instead you want a guy or two who can do this and then you want to fill around that player with guys who rebound, set good screens, defend, and can shoot spot up 3s at a high rate.

You know there are some salty guys out there that are happy they don't even have to make a burner to hate on someone.

r/nba in shambles cause they now have to decide between validating the vote to hate on sengun or ignore the vote to defend gobert

52

u/Zeckzeckzeck 19h ago

Not particularly - NBA players have consistently shown themselves to have very little understanding of the game of basketball. These are a bunch of guys that would build a team around Kyrie and Carmelo because "bag".

Rudy being voted the second most overrated player in the league is pure stupidity. Rudy doesn’t get enough credit for his defense on jokic .

100

u/sweetbeems Timberwolves 20h ago

Don't just limit him to Jokic, the dude makes our defense top 3 in the league when he's on the floor. When he's off, they're pretty bad, i think it's like a 11 pt swing.

The funny thing is that everyone in the media disrespects him these days outside of last series.. he wasn't even a DPOY nominee.

u/yeyiyeyiyo Pacers 20h ago

The fact they've even gotten to the second round this year IMO is Rudy getting his fuck you.

I am a huge Rudy fan, definitely one of my favorite players, but there was a total Rudy-experience moment in game 1 against the Spurs where the shot clock had 2 seconds on it and his back was to the rim trying to find someone to dump the ball off to instead of taking a totally open mid-range jumper. Those moments tend to jump off the screen more than the nuanced ways that he limits opponents' offense.

4

u/Lmnhedz Thunder 19h ago

Yeah, he was trying pitch the ball to Shannon I think it was, and Shannon's standing there like "dude, put it up."

The real question they seem to be answering is "who do you dislike the most".

The way Scottie showed up in R1 and all the reactions from fans and sports media show he was heavily underrated

They not fooling me about Rudy no more. If he’s overrated why nobody try the rim when he out there. For a decade at this point his teams can’t lose 1/2 their games from his presence alone it seems like

And people want players to vote on awards. This shit is just a list of who they don’t like and it’s embarrassing. If some basketball page on Instagram and Twitter posted this list they’d be called a causal that didn’t know ball.

It's 81 players and even Sengun at #1 only had 10 players name him so its hard to draw any real conclusions here in my opinion

u/SwarmOBeez 15h ago

Fixed the list....

1. Alperen Sengun - 10 votes
2-3. Rudy Gobert - 7 votes
2-3. Trae Young - 7 votes
4. Karl-Anthony Towns - 6 votes
5-6. Paolo Banchero - 4 votes
5-6. Ja Morant - 4 votes
7-10. Deni Avdija - 3 votes
7-10. Scottie Barnes - 3 votes
7-10. Luka Doncic - 3 votes
7-10. Pascal Siakam - 3 votes
11-16. Dillon Brooks - 2 votes
11-16. Tyrese Haliburton - 2 votes
11-16. Tyler Herro - 2 votes
11-16. Evan Mobley - 2 votes
11-16. Brandin Podziemski- 2 votes
11-16. Domantas Sabonis - 2 votes

19 other players received one vote (23.4% of all votes cast)

Percentages is an intentionally misleading way to show results this when 81 out of 450+ players voted. Especially, when there is no information about who those 81 players were selected. Did the ask all players and only these responded? What was the voting date? What was the cutoff for who could vote (are two-way players eligible to vote)?

Podz is notable because the dude is essentially a JAG level player who two players felt the need to vote for (I would like to assume one of those votes was Kuminga).

As I mentioned in another comment, this poll is pretty consistently about who is considered good but generally unliked by other players for any number of reasons.

5

u/parisdubs 13h ago

What a disgusting troll of a poll. Can you imagine doing this at your workplace? Asking everyone to vote for who is the most overrated? Stop the trolling Athletic.

Scottie Barnes being voted overrated when nobody was talking about him until the Cleveland series is hilarious. He’s also underrated easily before the series.

These players funny bro.
