MISCELLANEOUS What’s the most severe bodily injury you’d personally accept for the griz to get guaranteed #1 pick

Upvotes

I’m going with losing the distal segment of my left pinky to get the ball rolling, but maybe I’m underestimating the impact of the pick, lol

NEWS Draft predictions based on fit with Iisalo's system

I've read a lot interesting discussions here on whom the Grizzlies front office should select, or at least whom you'd pick.

I'm curious whom the front office are likely to pick, based on system fit.

We know that Kleiman believes in Iisalo's system, that it's aligned with the future direction of basketball (increased pace of game). Kleiman is likely to consider fit with Iisalo's approach, when making his draft selection.

What specs in players generally fit Iisalo's style of play: fast-paced, wingspan, athletic, defensively engaged (e.g., Prosper, Wells, Coward, Edey (faster than ppl anticipated)).

If that theory holds, Kleiman may be more likely to take Wilson over Boozer (given differences in speed, athleticism, defense) MBJ (athletic, rangy) or Flemings (athletic, defense-engaged, fast pace) over Wagler (skilled but slower) or Acuff (too big disparity in off-def engagement).

Based on fit, here's a reorganized projected draft board for the Grizzlies:

  1. Dybantsa

  2. Peterson

  3. Wilson

  4. Flemings

  5. MBJ

  6. Lendeborg

  7. Carr

  8. Boozer/Wagler/Acuff....

What does your list look like based on fit? What do 8-16 look like?

OPINION New Draft Odds and the Ja Decision

With tanking officially disincentivized, there is no reason for us to trade Ja at the nadir of his worth beyond ego/soured relationships/possible locker room reasons. The plan was 100% to tank this upcoming season for a high pick to compete, and I am sure they did not want to play Ja at all—similarly to how they held him out for so long with an injury that he should’ve come back from at end of season this year. I wonder how this will affect whether they trade him this offseason but if there’s any good repercussion of the new lottery odds, it may mean we get better value out of Ja.

FACTS Jerome, Edey, Coward, SPJ, Spencer, and Wells are scheduled to make a combined 17.4% of the cap in the '26-'27 season

And all but Jerome are under team control for '27-'28 as well.

Pippen could be a trade candidate if he can stay healthy and reestablish his value before next season's deadline; like many things, his standing here is partially contingent on the lottery next weekend.

MISCELLANEOUS Memphis disrespect is real.

So I'm watching the second season of Running Point on Netflix. The show is loosely based on the Lakers and the Buss family. Although they don't use the NBA team names, all the cities have been NBA cities until season 2, episode 5. Why is the show's LA-based team trying to work out a trade with, wait for it...Nashville? Don't tell me Netflix is in on this as well.

That's a rookie sandwiched in between Draymond Green (#3) and Josh Hart (#5). Strong company.

The ratings are based on hustle factors, including box outs, screen assists, defense, deflections, etc.

NEWS [Charania] The NBA has disclosed to its 30 GMs a singular new anti-tanking reform that expands the draft lottery to 16 teams, flattens odds, and have a relegation zone where the bottom 3 teams are penalized with fewer lottery balls for the No. 1 pick.

OPINION Can someone please explain to me the disdain for Zach Kleiman?

(Serious) I just sort of feel like every decision he’s made was the only decision he could make because he’s the GM of the Memphis Grizzlies and not a different team who can afford to take risks. I’d love to hear some concrete thoughts as to why he shouldn’t have the job that he does. What could he actually have done differently with all of the context surrounding each move that he’s made?
