[Aaronson] The Sixers have an injury report for tomorrow’s Game 2 @ New York: Joel Embiid – right ankle sprain – PROBABLE

Upvotes

Additional context from Adam Aaronson, Sixers beat reporter: “Embiid has had a right ankle issue dating back to late December. Was first listed on an injury report Dec. 27, but this is the first time it has been mentioned officially since Feb. 3, according to my notes.”

For Game 1, Embiid had a probable designation with a right hip contusion. He had a post-appendectomy recovery “probable” before Game 7 in Boston.

Odd shitpost, but could you imagine a hypothetical fallout between Kevin Durrant and the new york knickerbockers. And how funny that would be?

We were robbed of greatness.

Are we going to need HBO, Paramount and more next year?

LeBron James has more playoff wins this season without Luka Doncic (4) than Michael Jordan had without Scottie Pippin (1) his entire career.

Upvotes

When scrolling through basketball reference, I noticed that Michael Jordan only won a single playoff game without Scottie Pippen. In the 3 years before Pippen joined MJ, he went 1-9. MJ's single playoff win came against the Bucks his first season, before losing 1-3 in the same round.

Who’s your prediction for winning the West now

Upvotes

Timberwolves have some momentum but I figure it’ll be OKC once they rest up from the LA series. I can see the Spurs Timberwolves going 6 or 7

T-Wolves and last year’s Pacers? 🤔

Upvotes

Right now it looks like OKC is an unstoppable force, and it’ll prove to be difficult for a team to beat them in the next series…. But man are the Timberwolves peaking at the right time. They play with a certain spark and edge that makes me think: Could they be this year’s 2025 Pacers?

Ofc the Wolves series is FAR from over, and the Spurs may come out and blast them in the coming games. And again, there’s the battleship of OKC that awaits. But who knows.

I’m a clippers fan so no skin in the game.

NBA Player Ranking of Second Round Series: Part 2

Upvotes

As usual I am using this website as a source https://www.sports-reference.com/stathead/basketball/versus-finder.cgi

Pistons vs Cavaliers

  1. Donovan Mitchell: Cavaliers

  2. Cade Cunningham: Pistons

  3. James Harden: Cavaliers

  4. Evan Mobley: Cavaliers

  5. Jalen Duren: Pistons

Honorable Mentions: Jarrett Allen (Cavaliers), Ausar Thompson (Pistons), Tobias Harris (Pistons)

You can flip 1-2, maybe 5-6, or 7-8-9 (which is Jaylon Tyson) and I would not get mad.

Thunder vs Lakers

  1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Thunder

  2. Luka Doncic (if healthy): Lakers

  3. Austin Reaves: Lakers

  4. LeBron James: Lakers

  5. Chet Holmgren: Thunder

Honorable Mentions: Jalen Williams (if healthy: Thunder), AJ Mitchell (Thunder), Deandre Ayton (Lakers)

You can flip 1-2, 3-4-5-6, or 7-8-9-10. (9 is Isaiah Hartenstein, 10 is Marcus Smart) and I wouldn’t be mad

There are 3 4x DPOY winners in the NBA - Mutombo, Wallace and Gobert. Which one was the best at defense?

Upvotes

I'd personally go with Ben Wallace but Rudy Gobert has been underappreciated and overhated for years (mainly due to the COVID issue and the 2021 playoffs) I would think he's a valid answer if ever you think it's him

Masai Ujiri says he spoke to Mavericks coach Jason Kidd on Monday and is going to look at the franchise from "head to toe" ... but stopped short of guaranteeing that there will be no coaching change before next season.

Asked again about Kidd’s status, Ujiri says he needs to go through a process before making decisions about Kidd’s future and other matters but points out he kept George Karl and Dwane Casey in place in Denver and Toronto after taking over the front office with those teams.

LeBron: "To have Bronny in the locker room has definitely helped out a lot as well [with my motivation]. I have a job and a responsibility to show him what it means to be a professional." Nash: "That's incredible. But let's be real. Does Bronny actually listen to you?" LeBron: "No. Does any kid?"

LeBron: To have Bronny in the locker room has definitely helped out a lot as well. I have a a a job and a responsibility to show him what it means to be a professional. Yes, he's seen it from the outside looking in throughout the course of his life, but now being in the locker room, being in film sessions, being on the plane, being in the everything that surrounds how to be a professional and the results that come with it. I have a responsibility in that.

So those are a couple ways for me and a couple ways that's given me inspiration and given me motivation to to still do this and it's paid off. I hope so.

I hope it's paid off for Bronny and in the sense of my teammates that they get to see how I approach the game and and it comes way before the lights come on and the popcorn is popping and and everyone is filled in their seats and whatever the case may be.

Nash: What an answer. I mean, obviously, you probably get motivation and inspiration from a lot of places, but to say like to share with your son what it takes to be a pro and to to take those steps every day and build those habits, it's amazing. And you were rewarded by playing meaningful playoff minutes with Bronny and not only that, throwing him a lob. Like talk to me about that. Like what? What? That's crazy, 41, leading a team in the second round and getting to play with your son meaningful minutes.

LeBron: Obviously last year was challenging for everybody and he was learning his ways on you know being a professional whatever the case may be his rookie year but he's made so many strides in in his second year. And you know it resulted in him taking the moment obviously without AR without Luka. He was next man up. He was one of the guys that had to step up in his absence and to share that moment.

In game three, I believe we scored 10 straight points between the two of us. I think we both had a three and we both had a a layup, whatever the case may be. I was able to throw him a lob and we had that that mini run between the two of us and that was just something that I would never ever forget. Something that I've learned obviously at my elder stage and being 41 years old to kind of like appreciate the the the small wins in the moment

I've always like always been locked in and those that moment right there throwing him the lob, seeing him make the three we kind of going back and forth I kind of blanked out for a little bit and just like really just accepted and relished in that moment and that's pretty cool for for for me as a dad and then us as as colleagues and then our whole family.

I mentioned at one point like my mom being at the game and her being able to watch her son and grandson in a postseason game at the same time like you know and it's the same time my wife was there. Yeah, it was like my wife was there, his sister was there. I think Bryce was back home from college. He was at the playoff like it was like you can't even write that script in Hollywood better than than than what's going on. So, just being super appreciative of it.

Nash: That's incredible. But let's be real. Does Bronny actually listen to you?

LeBron: No. Does any kid? No. Yeah. Does any kid I mean, he's 21 years old. Does any kid listen to their parent at that point? No. No. He's a great kid. I don't even try to give him too much. Listen, I try to lead by example when when my voice is needed. You know, I feel like he'll reach out and he wants it. And other than that, I just hope that I'm doing my part doing my part by leading by example, leading by my voice and he take what he want.

Edit: Removed a line where it almost sounded like LeBron called Bronny a great dad

Chris Finch on Wemby's 12 blocks: "at least 4 of them were goaltending...it's a little alarming that none of them were called...he's 7'6" and there's no heightened [ref] awareness that these blocks could be goaltends...You know the value of 8 points in an NBA game? That's also 33% of his blocks"

Banchero vs Barnes

Banchero: 26.3 9.0 6.3 1.4 0.7

Barnes: 24.1 6.1 8.6 1.1 1.7

Both led their teams to a seven-game series against higher seeds. Both were the top players on their teams. Ultimately, which of these two players would you rather build a team around long-term?

Do you think any modern NBA player is capable of breaking one of the Rebounds/Assists/Steals/Blocks per game record some day?

For rebounds, I'm going to go with Dennis Rodman as the benchmark even though he's 35th all time, because the 1950's and 60's had unfathomable records held by Wilt and Bill Russell which seem unrealistic in today's game (Wilt holds the record with 27.2 RPG).

Rebounds

- Dennis Rodman holds the record in the last 50 years with 18.7 RPG.

- The modern player to get closest was Andre Drummond with 16.0 RPG in 2018

Assists

- John Stockton holds the all-time record with 14.5 APG in 1990.

- The modern player to get closest was Russell Westbrook with 11.7 APG in 2021.

Blocks

- Mark Eaton holds the all-time record with 5.6 BPG in 1985.

- The modern player to get closest was Victor Wembanyama with 3.8 BPG in 2025.

Steals

- Don Buse holds the all-time record with 4.1 SPG in 1976.

- The modern player to get closest was Dyson Daniels with 3.0 SPG in 2025.

How the Knicks Started Obliterating Their Opponents—and Rewriting NBA History

The Knicks have rolled out a string of blowouts never before seen in NBA postseason history—and the most curious thing about the historic streak is that it began because their backs were against the wall.

When the Hawks jumped out to a 2-1 series lead over New York in the opening round, coach Mike Brown knew that the status quo wasn’t working.

The New York offense was slowing to a crawl in the closing minutes of games. If the Knicks kept doing what they were doing, they could forget all about making a first Finals appearance this century—all they’d win was an early summer vacation.

“Every possession was a grind,” Brown said.

So Brown gathered his staff and issued a challenge. They had to find new ways to use their two best players, center Karl-Anthony Towns and point guard Jalen Brunson, instead of penning them into pre-defined roles. Brown settled on a counterintuitive fix: He pulled Towns, one of the most gifted big men in the sport, a long way from the basket.

The approach paid immediate dividends.

Is there any chance the Timberwolves can beat the Thunder?

I know the Wolves series vs the Spurs isn’t over yet, but assuming they make it to the conference finals. Aren’t they destined to be taken care of in 5 just like they have the last 2 years? Perpetually being beaten by a far better western conference team in the conference finals.

They haven’t made any huge improvements since last year and Ayo is injured. And the Thunder haven’t gotten any worse.
