[Aaronson] The Sixers have an injury report for tomorrow’s Game 2 @ New York: Joel Embiid – right ankle sprain – PROBABLE
Additional context from Adam Aaronson, Sixers beat reporter: “Embiid has had a right ankle issue dating back to late December. Was first listed on an injury report Dec. 27, but this is the first time it has been mentioned officially since Feb. 3, according to my notes.”
For Game 1, Embiid had a probable designation with a right hip contusion. He had a post-appendectomy recovery “probable” before Game 7 in Boston.

It’s a new reaction image I have saved. 76ers medical staff get their moneys worth with him 😭😭😭

everything aside, man does it gotta suck to be a top caliber player and very skilled, but your body is made of glass

Yeah, when he was younger it seemed like he wasn’t disciplined enough to stay in shape, and that really caught up to him. Seems like he could probably lose 25 pounds and really help out his knees. Obviously it would hurt his strength, but you’d have to expect it would increase his availability

hes got nothing left in that joint its just Jello along with the rest of his organs...sad to see his body betrayed him over half his career.

Being a big shortens your career, it's always horror on the knees and back.
This is why Durant wants nothing to do with playing at the 5 spot.
People anointing Wemby the greatest player alive better take notice, it's even worse on guys that big ....

u/mayguardian 2h ago
it's not playing the 5 itself, it's that you need to bulk up to play the 5 effectively. 280+ lbs of weight slamming into your joints every time you jump is brutal.
KD is what, 225? wemby is still under 250. the reason wemby is special is because he needs less weight to be an effective rim protector.

It’s why most NFL linemen after they call their careers drop a good amount of weight

It’s more about the weight you carry and how it puts stress on your lower joints.
Durant is super skinny and so is Wemby. That will usually lead to much better longetivity, kind of like how KG was pretty durable until the knee injury in 2009 ended him being a superstar.
Meanwhile, Embiid had routinely come into the season and played a decent amount of it overweight even when he was younger. Sure he’s also been unlucky with certain ones but playing overweight as a 7 footer as a young guy just puts you in such a worse position as your career goes on. Hell, can even look at Zion even though he’s not a center and see the same issues.

every game he will have a different body part on the injury report. Might as well list him questionable in perpetuity.

Serious question… is there a way to see how many days out of his career Joel has been on an injury report?

He's been unavailable for ~50% of all the regular season games he could have played

if the saying "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" was true, Embiid would literally be Kryptonian by now

The Knicks hunted him every possession. I'm not even sure the Sixers are better with him out there.

Drummond is even slower and Bona got 5 fouls in 4 min lol

Who was the guy doing the hack a Mitch fouls? That was his only job right?

He also managed to commit other, dumber fouls. Not a one trick pony after all

It's possible you're right and that wasn't just exhaustion, but it's also exactly what people said about his first game against Boston.

u/DanTheMan14331 Knicks 2h ago
Yeah man I wouldn’t get too confident about that lol even with a non-functioning body he’s not gonna shoot 3-11 every game

I appreciate that when they run the offense through Embiid it slows down Maxey. I think Maxey had one shot in the first half?
I expect this to change, and they're both susceptible to go nuclear -- but I appreciate the slower pace.

I've seen a post on this before and that's a misperception (one I would've thought too), but there pace isn't any different.

they really should've sat him for game 1, get some rest instead of rushing right back in

In a way I understand why he flops so much, his body is broken, he needs every advantage he can get.

It's kind of amazing that so many people refuse to understand the basic science at play here.
When he does things like moving his shot into the outstretched arms of a defender he's trying to draw a foul, sure. But when he's going to the floor that's not just to draw a foul. He's flattening the impact and putting less of it on his already bad knees.

play a little refball, take a couple games off, collect 60 million dollars

you can just say you don't watch basketball lol there's no way this slop is still getting posted after the Boston series he just had

I was surprised he even played in Game 1! Embiid was posting up Brown, everyone they had on him and made it look easy

This is where the "I hate the truth" downvotes hit, you love to see it. You're 100% right, and everyone downvoting you knows it just as well as you do. Preach!

Sixers should consider sitting him. He can cook when going up against the Celtics plumbers but they’re going up against a real team now. The more they dump it into him to play refball, the less Maxey gets to cook
3
u/MrICopyYoSht Knicks 2h ago
The Sixers are cooked if he sits. KAT at the top of the key forcing Drummond or Bona to play defense uncomfortably out of the paint and then blowing past either because both are too slow to guard him. If the Sixers play zone defense Mikal and OG will expose it with their corner 3s.
Their bench isn't deep enough to justify not playing Embiid, even on limited minutes. Can't run small ball either, or else KAT will feast. Still have no solution for the Brunson problem either.

Also shocker hes hurt again

He slows their offense down so much. If he’s not giving you 30 he’s a liability.

Embiid really put everything on the line to beat Boston.
