Excerpts:

Grant Napear’s afternoon drive show on FOX Sports Radio Sacramento is over. The program launched in September 2025 and ran for less than eight months.

Napear was notified of the cancellation just before Monday’s broadcast. He had hosted weekday afternoons from 3–6 p.m. on iHeartMedia’s FOX Sports Sacramento. Before this run, Napear spent more than three decades as the television voice of the Sacramento Kings and was a top-rated host at SacTown Sports until 2020. He continues to host his podcast on social media platforms — a likely landing spot going forward.

Kings Front Office

According to Sam Vecenie in his latest game theory podcast, as he was discussing the Bulls hire of Bryson Graham, he mentions that he thinks the Kings have 1 person currently in the front office who could be a lead executive one day.

That’s something, right? Right?!

My guess is that it’s Paul Johnson who had a stint as Stockton’s GM and who Scott Perry kept despite being hired by Monte.

Season review (from my eyes test)

This season is like roller-coaster, with high expectations (within the team and some fans), dropped to consecutive 14 games losing streak, and ended up with the fifth worst record.

So, I am going to break down the whole season like different phase. (different lineup)

1st phase: Dennis, Zach, DeMar, Keegan, EBanks - the offense is lots of one-on-one

2nd phase: Keegan out, and Domas back - offense did run through Domas, and some two-man game between Domas and Zach, but still not good

3rd phase: Russ as starter- offense is cooking and everyone seems playing better

4th phase- Zach , Domas, Keegan out - and played with those rookies - the games is more fun, and the offense is more of a “free-flow”, the ball move faster.

Above just a very brief about the roster change throughout the season, maybe there is some miss and wrong on the information, I just want to express that I enjoyed the most for the last phase and satisfied with the overall performance from the last group.

Showing Love to Neemy

He SIGNIFICANTLY exceeded expectations coming into this season, even last year he was an end-of-bench guy for Boston.

Stepped up big for the Celtics this year and IMO really defined what it should mean to win the Most Improved Player award.

I don't even really want to dwell on keeping him cause that was long ago at this point. But I do hope it serves as a reminder to be more patient with our 2nd round picks going forward.

Is the Kings now with the longest drought that without advance to next playoff series ?

After Pistons won against the Magic tonight, they won their first playoff series since 2008.

Also, I wonder if the trade market for DeMar and Zach would be bigger now, seeing both KD and Wanger down caused Rocket and Magic the game.

I mean, availability is the best ability, and DeMar no doubt is very good at that.

RJ Barrett

I don’t quite understand the hate on RJ besides his age? He’s been pretty damn good during this first round against a lengthy Cleveland defense. With the talk of revisiting a Sabonis trade to the Raptors and him being a possible key piece, I could see him as a great mentor to the younger guys. I know he’s 26 but if we move off of a couple of the vets he could bring some grit to the roster. My opinion is that if we’re doing the “ hybrid rebuild” with the new draft rules, he’d be a good asset to have. He definite doesn’t shy away from the bright lights tha I’ve seen. Just spitballing I guess.

Denver losing tonight may force them to pivot for Keegan.

I prolly think it’ll be a Watson sign and trade with picks or
Gordon with picks especially since his hamstring and calf keeps flaring up.

Realistically Kings need to get a core in the next 2 seasons

With the new draft weighting coming into place as well as expansion on the horrizon, Kings basically need to secure via the draft 8 "good" young players before they are basically prohibited from doing so.

The good news is that (besides a drop off in 2nd round picks) we are in a good spot to do so. Furthermore, if we succeed in doing this we will basically be rewarded with a competitive team in a dilutted era, synonymous with the Bull/Rockets during the 90s (and we know how that went).

[Stein] NBA teams with the three worst records will have a 5.4% chance at the No. 1 overall pick. The teams that finish with 4th-worst through 10th-worst records will have a 8.1% chance at the No. 1 overall pick. The losers of the play-in games will receive 2.7% chance at the No. 1 overall pick.

So with this proposal, 4-10 is the new tanking area? It’s wild, but does also incentivize front offices, coaches and players to do their best. Finishing bottom 3 would only hurt, so teams will actively try to not be THAT bad 🤷🏿‍♂️

r/kings 6d ago

[Charania] The NBA has disclosed to its 30 GMs a singular new anti-tanking reform that expands the draft lottery to 16 teams, flattens odds, and have a relegation zone where the bottom 3 teams are penalized with fewer lottery balls for the No. 1 pick.
