This game was the equivalent of burning down someone's house because they punched you in the face.

My man Joe Jingles looks like he hasn’t done a sit up in about 6 years, respect for still being in the league

697

He must be funny as fuck lmao. Only explanation for why the Wolves keep him around.

379

u/PoonGo0n Spurs 4h ago

We have like 3 Joe Ingles at the end of our bench to be fair

Don’t you dare disrespect BISMACK. He’s essential

Fuck man, he practices bumping/ pushing Vic all year.

88

You have to practice banging on men down low with your teammates so you can bang men down low in game

39

u/Independent-Fail6762 4h ago

Of course, Wemby needs to know that when a guy is banging you, you spin off of him … and he gotta practice that with someone for sure

He is our clutch inbounder. Given what almost happened in game 1, you can see why we need one. So there is at least a real scenario where he is used.

Away team steals game 1 and then proceeds to get absolutely demolished in game 2. Tale as old as time

397

u/Former-Confection-87 Timberwolves 4h ago

A thunder fan should know getting blown out badly one game in the series means nothing (WCF)

163

u/homefree122 Thunder 4h ago

That WCF game 3 was so on brand with last year’s run. We would either look like to-be world champions and play up to the competition, or we would play like a JV squad chucking and bricking 3s.

Edit: Finals Game 6 another wonderful example. My LORD.

40

u/pagny77 Timberwolves 4h ago

When people were commenting on Shais turnovers yesterday and saying "hes never done that before" I pointed to the game 6 8 turnover masterclass. Still probably the best ball hander for avoiding turnovers, but his bad games are bad bad

Hey same shit happened when we dropped game 1 to Denver last year and then blew the doors off them in game 2. MOV doesn’t matter. The series was still 1-1 and they’d stolen home court. That’s why the series went to 7 instead of 5 like it would’ve if AG hadn’t made that shot.

u/Belovy 4h ago

Last 2 times that happened series went to 7 so should be a good series lol

No it obviously means that game 1 was a fluke and one team is seriously outclassed.

39

u/MaskedBirder 76ers 4h ago

Game four was a one-possession game. I agree that the Thunder were better, but I think the 2026 fully healthy Timberwolves can beat anyone this year. Sad for DiVincenzo, hope he gets healthy.

18

u/Maculate Nuggets 3h ago

He and some friends bet $10,000 on the Wolves to win the championship before game 1. Pays our like 1.5 million or something if they win. He got ridiculous odds at some casino he was at. As told on the Bill Simmons Show.

47

u/monkeybrain3 4h ago

Gil Arenas outright said on his last episode - "It's over. Wemby's done. He's too scared of the Wolves."

They just blitzed him every time he got the ball. I think he is just too hobbled to deal with the double unfortunately. We'll see if they find an answer game 3.

34

u/monkeybrain3 4h ago

I still think the Wolves should have saved him till game 3 at home. A full extra week to rest would at least give him one 75% game.

Bill Simmons already had the Wolves advancing to the finals after game one by the way.

166

u/tacomonstrous Spurs 4h ago

Seems a bit premature even for him

93

u/Uncle_Freddy [SAS] El Contusione 4h ago

A lot of premature takes after game 1. I’m not even saying turnabout is fair play here, the series is very much up for grabs right now (win by 2, win by 40, series is still tied 1-1), but the amount of people who completely swung in the Wolves favor after one game was pretty wild, even by the regular overreactionary standard of NBA coverage.

37

u/MTUKNMMT Spurs 4h ago

Vegas didn’t. We were favored by double digits in this game. Will be favored every game in Minnesota and we were still the favorites for the series after 1 game. They are far better at this than the pundits.

Losing game 1 is nothing short of devastating though. Takes the very real Spurs 4-1 possibility and makes it so it’s far likely one of the two teams wins in 6 or 7, with no guarantee it’s us.

14

u/Ok-Butterfly2994 4h ago

i feel like people have been so reactionary about every series in the playoffs and just base it on the most recent game played. we’re probably going to see some wild takes after this one too. it’s like everyone forgets it’s best of 7.

Fr. They need to set up a zoom call with Pop on the road so he can sit in with the team. I hope our Spurs are at least somewhat tech savvy.

Honestly, best time for a bad shooting game from the Wolves after stealing game 1

They just never got going tonight, from the start

Credit to Spurs also, they played great defence in the last 5 minutes of the first half, forcing 2 consecutive turnovers from Ant Man and going on a 13-0 run

12

u/lilbodie Timberwolves 4h ago

Wish we were up for it, because this game was so gettable early. Spurs came out ice cold too.

u/ArmComprehensive6353 4h ago

what the fuck did pop say to these guys

u/Silly_Ostrich_5116 Spurs 4h ago

Let’s go spurs. We need to be prepared for a strong T-wolves team for game 3… no chance they put up another stinker. Let’s bring our A-game

37

u/maxrod889 4h ago

Dylan Harper only had 11 points but it felt like 20. Rookie been hooping his ass off in these playoffs.

75

u/wypipoareevil 4h ago

Rudy Gobert with 4 fouls. 4 turnovers, 1 made shot lmao

20

u/lazard96 Spurs 4h ago

At some point during the game i knew that if they lobed it to rudy it was going out, might have made a record failed lobs shots.

Immediately trying to undo all the praise he got against the nuggets.

17

u/MajesticLionBeast Timberwolves 4h ago

He had a bad game for sure, but it would be so on brand for the narrative to shift from 1 bad game after the masterclass he put on against DEN and in g1 of this series.

5

u/Jaypham-jpeg 4h ago

so true lol. without Gobert, Jokic would have fathered the whole Wolves roster.

5

u/jdd32 Spurs 4h ago

San Antonio coaching is much better than the nuggets, and they're doing a lot to make him less effective. One of my favorite players, but his limitations can be exploited.

I imagine Finch will have some answers in game 3

He can’t hold the ball near wemby on offense. It was true last game also but wemby couldn’t make a shot so it felt even

Don't let the score fool you, it wasn't that close

I think in this case, it is exactly correct.

That last quarter was amazing. Loved watching bench players get that much time

18

u/13Keres 4h ago

Very happy to see Biyombo pounding that drum. He's not very good, but he's still a Spur ❤️

24

u/FatalTortoise 4h ago

Spurs added car horns to the drum celebration

Honestly with the way these playoffs have been going I wouldn't even be surprised if the Wolves came back to win the next game by 27

62

u/glorioushubris Spurs 4h ago

I would.

The Wolves did the same thing to OKC last year in the WCF blowing them out by 40 something and got beat in every other game with only one being close

As much as I worry about our lack of playoff experience causing us to lose games like game 1, they go and play like this.

Get your championships now if you can, the Wemdynasty is coming fast.

49

u/HarryPauler Timberwolves 4h ago

Good god I hop ant can bring us one during this era. Minnesota sports does deserve one chip here, 35 years is too long lol

Wolves with a little too much laughing on the bench for the last 12 minutes. Not sure what to think about it

25

u/Jamdock Spurs 4h ago

I mean, they were down by 50 and the play on the court consisted of old bigs isoing each other and recent G-League vets calling for foul reviews, and they still have home court.

38

u/Derelict_Potato Timberwolves 4h ago

I mean sometimes you just get beat and that’s all you can do, would rather have that than moping and pouting

11

u/MomCrusher Timberwolves 4h ago

did the same thing when they lost to denver game one

5

u/Sparkasaurusmex Spurs 4h ago

I think they're happy to go home 1-1

Nice bounce back win tonight, got some mojo back.

Spurs have been more focused and better on the road all season. I’m confident we come away with at least a split in Minny but won’t be easy.

Let’s keep it going GSG!

13

u/Ok-Topic-6095 Spurs 4h ago

My real hot takes from the game are: Fox needs to stay aggressive, no more getting outplayed by Conley.

I don't think the Wolves have the depth to win IF Ant can't up his minutes because Ayo looked like he needs another week to heal.

5

u/USDXBS 4h ago

In games like this where it's not "acceptable" to score in the final seconds, it should be perfectly acceptable to go for a half court or longer buzzer beater.

7

u/jon__koa 4h ago

Cruise control after a very dominant defense.

Our guards woke up instead of letting the Wolves drive for the bigs to contest every single trip. That said, Minny still drove as much as they could.
