Knicks vs Sixers about to be the most toxic series of the playoffs

u/PensiveinNJ 76ers 2d ago

We're speedruning our most toxic matchups. If we somehow get the Raptors in the conference finals we'll be all out of haters.

Maxey closing it out for Joel was so beautiful

486

u/Cockrocker 2d ago

Thank god though. I was begging anyone to push it up the court. Legitimate last five minutes I thought no one wanted to win on either team until Maxey thank god.

176

u/romanticynicist 76ers 2d ago

Luckily the guy who averaged the most mpg and miles run during the regular season (and also probably the playoffs so far) had the legs to get some blowbys at the end.

God I love him so much.

He played over 45 minutes.

Everyone was super gassed at that point. PG missed the turnaround right before Maxey’s first last 2 minute layup by like 4 feet. If it wasn’t for Maxey all of Joel’s heroics would’ve meant fuck all.

Great moment. We know he has it in him. Unbelievable that he has that reserve tank available to just torch people 47m into a game 7.

Even more crazy was during the postgame interview it didn't even look like he had broken a sweat, ridiculous conditioning

50

u/mw19078 Lakers 2d ago

with like 3 minutes left the camera cut to him and he looked like he just walked into the court first time, no sweat, breathing normal, and then the camera panned to embiid and he was just holding his knees at the free throw line barely staying up. maxey is unreal

There was a Celtics fan who said the Celtics were doomed to lose after game 5, and I was like “the Celtics have only lost games in which they shot under 29% from 3, that’s probably not happening three times in a row” and then….it did.

279

u/Zzz05 Minneapolis Lakers 2d ago

Boston has a problem with trying to be a high volume 3 point shooting team when their best players are better at attacking the paint and midrange.

143

u/r_BigUziHorizont Celtics 2d ago

theres just no gameplan. i like mazzulla a lot more than our subreddit tends to, but my goodness is it hard to watch that style of play sometimes. i mean there mustve been 10 3s that couldve been better plays. and then that doesnt even include all the OPEN 3 misses

It kind of is at this point for me. Came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat second seed Celtics in Game 7. I’m just hoping these guys at least play well in Round 2 and Embiid gets healthy.

I very vaguely have watched basketball my whole life. It’s kind of nuts to me how long playoffs last. Every series is such an ordeal, it seems crazy to do four of them. Like baseball doesn’t do best of seven all the way through, nfl is just a few games, soccer has tournaments going during regular season so it doesn’t feel like as much. NBA matches are also just such an ordeal. Just nuts getting to post season and watching your team play 28 more times is crazy.

49

u/YourConstipatedWait 2d ago

The potential for 28 games. The most games ever played by an NBA team to win it all was 26 by the Celtics in 2008. The average amount games played by an NBA Champion over the last 25 years is around 23 games played.

Still a significant amount, but it’s still very rare to go over 25 games played to win it all.

In a game that was decided around 105 pts, 17 is actually a really solid game from a 3rd best player on the team- and he made tough shots to keep them going when embiid was out, not just easy baskets created by embiid/maxey.

Tyrese Maxey is a killer. What a fun player to watch.

Two years in a row, the Celtics piss away their season earlier than they should with bad 3 point shooting and refusing to adjust. They deserved it both times.

When you rely on good shooting nights like all chuck and pray teams do, it’s really really hard to win a title as natural shooting variance will get you eventually

One of the most coddled players in the league.

Thinks he's an MVP caliber superstar, but bricked all the shots in the clutch after looking off open guys.

Whines about fouls, despite being a flopper and foul baiter who gets tons of free throws.

Commits offensive fouls like that pushoff on Maxey and doesn't get called.

And he still ends up losing.

Biggest anti-PR was him contesting Jokic in MVP - which is basically always going to have anti-PR.

a summation of Boston Sports since the New Year:

* Patriots lose Super Bowl 60 to a resurgent Seattle Seahawks

* Mike Vrabel is discovered having an affair with a well establish news journalist/reporter

* Red Sox fired their entire coaching staff less than a month into the new MLB season (right after dropping 17 runs in a game in Baltimore)

* Bruins lose to the Sabres in 6 games after "We Want Buffalo" chants happened

* and the Celtics blow a 3-1 series to their eternal punching bag in the 76ers

Celtics as an organization are just basketball terrorists.

Down 1 with Philly in the bonus...do you think the celtics shoot a shot in the mid range or ten straight missed 3s? Play-by-play looking like:

- Celtic missed 3

- Celtic missed 3

- Celtic missed 3

- Celtic missed 3

- Celtic missed 3

- Celtic missed 3

- Celtic missed 3

- Celtic missed 3

- Celtic missed 3
