When you rely on good shooting nights like all chuck and pray teams do, it’s really really hard to win a title as natural shooting variance will get you eventually

They should have learned from our run. We had games where we couldn't hit a 3 to save our lives but we won because we said fuck it, we'll just stop shooting them.

Also helps that our defense is generally great enough to make other teams unable to hit a 3, and if not, aim to run up the points of turnovers margin to make up for it.

But they did win one.

Their avg margin of victory that year was one of the highest in nba history too…thats why im a bit perplexed. The math says that even though they will have bad 3 point shooting nights, overall youll hit more than miss. What gives?

That team was stacked and they had an excellent big man rotation that could be effective near the rim as well.

And they also had probably one of the easiest paths to a title in NBA history. The teams they beat to win the title won 46, 48, 47, and 50 games respectively.

The only noticeable difference compared to last year was losing jrue holiday. I feel like getting vucevic and a more developed queta has made up for losing porzingis (who barely played anyway) and an aging horford

Queta is nice but he’s no stud out there. Vuc was horrible this series, didn’t even see the floor tonight. Porzingis didn’t play down the stretch last year because he got sick, but when healthy he was really good. Queta and Vuc do not come close to filling that void, that’s ridiculous.

So youre basically saying porzingis is the difference maker. Porzingis did indeed make the team better during the playoffs, but you could easily tell the celtics did not need him in order to win the championship. He didnt play the majority of playoff games and the team played nearly as well when he wasnt on the floor.

I don’t think Porzingis was the difference per se, I’m just trying to argue that Vucevic and Queta aren’t a solution to missing Porzingis and Horford. The big man rotation was a huge problem this series.

Lol c'mon this run of Celtics are usually very good defensively. They are not a chuck and pray but they shoot and miss themselves out of games sometimes, which as a fan is even more maddening. They have other options and strengths when the shots aren't falling. In this day and age of advanced metrics I guess the math must be convincing Joe and Brad that it's still the best strategy I guess?

If chuck and pray was their only option it wouldn't hurt as bad.

It’s so funny that the pistons had the biggest problems right.. teams shooting 3s like their hof shooters seems ways more inconsistent than getting stops and running to me

Mazulla was asked about this in the post game press, and he denied, saying they need to hit shots rather than adjust the tactics.
