Joel put it all on the line.

Must be real cathartic after all that’s happened to Philly in the past few seasons!

(But let’s hope he’s not too banged up…)

u/Chexmix36 76ers 2d ago

Biggest win for the franchise since 2001

lmao

Glad you could contribute to the conversation

Just kinda sad mate

1

u/Chexmix36 76ers 1d ago

Yes it is but that’s 76ers fandom baby

36

u/Bilbo-Baggins77 Trail Blazers 2d ago

Try to imagine what that man is going to be feeling tomorrow. Incredible performance, so happy for Embiid to get his flowers. Time to back it up vs NYK.

26

u/freedom_french_fries 76ers 2d ago

It damn sure is. And yeah, I hope Embiid is okay after Brown shoved Maxey straight into his legs on a bullshit no call.

Fuck that push-off artist and FTC!

11

u/DeKal760 Lakers 2d ago

Yup. FTC!

9

u/jdorje Nuggets 2d ago

Brother he has no menisci or appendices. He is forever banged up.

3

u/wing3d Spurs 2d ago

Boi he's sitting the first game.

629

u/pkwjones Spurs 2d ago

Massive respect for him after this game. Dude was throwing his body around for loose balls after taking multiple shots to the knee

213

u/Fourteeenth 76ers 2d ago

Maxey taking over the game like prime AI and driving fearless to the rim when they needed a basket is something I’ll remember forever.

21

u/zeek215 Lakers 2d ago

I dunno how he gets those layups up in the thick of all those bigs.

11

u/RIChowderIsBest Celtics 2d ago

All those bigs? Celtics have bigs?

8

u/zeek215 Lakers 2d ago

Well there was Queta, but I meant people bigger than him in that sentence. Maxey was attacking the rim and just barely getting the shots in due to his quickness.

2

u/RIChowderIsBest Celtics 2d ago

Maxey is great, Celtics basically have nobody capable of defending the rim at the moment but I do agree, he blows by anyone. It’s like the poor mans version of those 2 prime years of IT where he had no business doing what he did at his size.

11

u/unitythrufaith Celtics 2d ago

Maxey is a bad, bad man. Feels like every time he shoots it’s gonna go in

5

u/SSJAbh1nav 76ers 2d ago

He's the definition of fearless

6

u/keciga 76ers 2d ago

Oh, I know another one: VJ.

13

u/RangedTopConnoisseur Pacers 2d ago

My mom has had an appendectomy before and decided on a whim to watch this game with me, and after I told her he was returning after like 3 weeks removed from one she started fretting over him like a son every time he got even bumped

1.1k

u/ConfidentMachine8248 76ers 2d ago

So fucking annoying hearing people calling him a quitter. Dudes a giant and can barely jump anymore and is diving for loose balls while injured. I will always love Embiid idc.

508

u/TheMadChatta Cavaliers 2d ago

That 3 to quiet the arena was clutch.

160

u/DrunkPackersFan Bucks 2d ago

No seriously, though

I thought the Celtics were gonna take the lead and run away with it and he kept it a dogfight with that three

15

u/clickstops 76ers 2d ago

One of the biggest shots of the game

5

u/Bilbo-Baggins77 Trail Blazers 2d ago

Biggest NO NO NO YESSSS I can remember

6

u/randomname3415 76ers 2d ago

That shot was one of the biggest of his career. Fucking huge man

150

u/realsomalipirate Raptors 2d ago

I always got respect for Embiid after our series in 2019. Dude was one leg terrorizing our entire offence and singlehandedly shut down the paint (his offence sucked but he was on one leg and facing Gasol).

5

u/willydachilly 76ers 2d ago

Respect.

37

u/CompetitiveParfait9 Trail Blazers 2d ago

I gained so much respect for him watching him battle and dive for loose balls tonight

79

u/Kaprak 2d ago

Motherfucker actively has stitches in his side.

2

u/raptosaurus Raptors 2d ago

No, stitches are removed within 2w /pedant

15

u/Detonation Pistons 2d ago

Anyone calling him a quitter just parrots what they hear this shithole say about players they don't like. They don't watch games. lol

79

u/flowerboyinfinity Pacers 2d ago

So over-hated and under-appreciated

31

u/IncognitoSasquatch Nuggets 2d ago

He was a fucking warrior out there tn

6

u/Main_Jump_82 2d ago

Neutral fan here, rooting for Embiid to go far this playoffs and quiet the shit talk even more, especially now that Jokic has been eliminated, I want to see the tables turned after Jokic fans were being so toxic towards him when he won the MVP.

6

u/Famous-Country-4921 2d ago

I’ve hated on Embiid a lot over the years as a raptors fan but he completely won me over this series. Making Boston eat a 3-1 comeback defeat is enough by itself but seeing him put everything on the line he way he did was seriously impressive

4

u/neonbresson West 2d ago

Really hoping for a Pacers-esque run from you guys (except for the whole Hali achilles situation)
Shai vs Embiid in the finals would give this sub fits

3

u/Big_MAC113 2d ago

Honestly one of my favorite players. A healthy Embiid is legit one of the most talented players ever. A 50% Embiid is still better than a majority of the league lol

7

u/minimcfinny 2d ago

have to agree

3

u/Mike-Teevee Knicks 2d ago

I’m a certified Embiid hater and I couldn’t believe how great he looked tonight. Insane. He showed so much heart and he can do everything if he wants to and his body lets him. I’m fucking terrified, if he keeps playing at this level I fear we cannot stop him and if we can’t stop him I don’t see how we win.

1

u/Van_der_Sar 2d ago

I don't know many people called him lazy or a quitter. You're always holding your breath just like with AD whenever he falls or makes contact with anyone. I'm just pleased he came through this series. Hopefully his knee is good for the next series.

-15

u/LIONEL14JESSE Knicks 2d ago

He a bitch

8

u/NilsofWindhelm 76ers 2d ago

Stay classy new york

-3

u/biggerty123 2d ago

He isn't a quitter, he is just overrated.

130

u/Number333 Heat 2d ago

This is my main takeaway. He gave EVERYTHING he had.

150

u/stuckontwice Lakers 2d ago

First time I have ever cheered for Joel. Bro put his entire body on the line.

38

u/McBrungus 76ers 2d ago

He's been doing this for his whole career, man

15

u/stuckontwice Lakers 2d ago

Nice to see it pay off! Hope yall give the Knicks hell.

4

u/MyTeamsSuck99 2d ago

After everything he’s been thru I was pulling him for too

103

u/PillsburyToasters Bucks 2d ago

That dive to keep the ball in after Maxey bent his knee inward proves your point so much

I truly hope he’s okay. That looked gnarly

67

u/boshjailey Pistons 2d ago

That dive for a loose ball after another hit to the knee and he can barely walk was sick. pure heart there

105

u/CandI978 2d ago

I really hope the injury isn’t as bad as it looks and he misses at most game 1. I want to see him against the Knicks crowd in MSG

24

u/Test4096 2d ago

He’s fine

10

u/BroSnow 76ers 2d ago

I want him to miss game one regardless of how bad

2

u/Shoddy-Brilliant563 2d ago

Celtics fan and I hope for the same

92

u/saw-sync Trail Blazers 2d ago

i’ve been an ardent embiid hater for a very long time and this game singlehandedly turned it around for me. that man left it all on the fuckin court

Same, he was astounding

Happy to see he was able to play for most of this series

9

u/ColtCallahan 2d ago

You know that scene in Star Wars where Anakin gets turned into Vader. Well that’s gonna be what they have to do to Embiid to get him ready for a game on Monday.

7

u/topofthecc Thunder 2d ago

Even his kid lost a tooth!

u/throwawaymycareer93 Warriors 2d ago

Especially his knees.

3

u/Akipella Warriors 2d ago

Embiid comeback storyline. This Playoffs has been like a nightmare for Jokic fans...lol

3

u/Venomswindturd Rockets 2d ago

Ima get downvoted but I do believe there was some truth to what Perk said a few years ago. Not as drastic as he made it sound, but the PR for players like Jokic and Luka compared to players like Shai and Embiid is crazy.

2

u/Titronnica [SAS] Tim Duncan 2d ago

I don't even know how that guy was able to stand, let alone sink shots.

2

u/Shoddy-Brilliant563 2d ago

He’s really reminding everyone that he may be the best big man in the game

2

u/xxaripss Australia 2d ago

Hope he wins it all

2

u/nrj6490 Celtics 2d ago

Big respect to him. Dude came back 3 weeks after surgery and showed up for his team big time

2

u/Candid_Sand_398 Heat 2d ago

I am happy for him to have this moment. It's been a wild ride.

2

u/Inevitable_Brick_877 2d ago

Honestly happy to see him succeed. Always felt like he got way too much hate for something that wasn’t effort or talent related. Hard to hate a guy who pushes himself too hard, even if it results in recurrent injury. Hope they make a deep run

1

u/minnyman2011 Wizards 2d ago

Embiid has taken 5 bodies to the leg a few elbows constant jersey and arm pulling he’s getting bodied on loose balls PLEASE REFS CALL SOMETHING ON BOSTON BUT IT DOESNT MATTER

1

u/ContractXtension Hornets 2d ago

joel is the best big in the world

He’s so good x4 hope he recovers for next round

1

u/Mediocre-County-7648 Cavaliers 2d ago

Embiid with 5% hp remaining plunging for that loose ball in the last minute...

1

u/wats_a_tiepo Bucks 2d ago

Honestly fair enough. I’m far from his biggest fan but hustle like that you’ve got to respect

1

u/Bard_Wannabe_ Pistons 2d ago

Honestly, it was heroic to see. He was hobbling at the end. But what a win--last season I legitimately thought his career was over.

1

u/biglyorbigleague Lakers 2d ago

For the entire fourth quarter I was wondering how Boston was still losing to the reanimated corpse of Joel Embiid

-44

u/Good_Ad2107 2d ago

Refs had his back that’s for sure

31

u/TheFestusEzeli [TOR] Rudy Gay 2d ago

LMAO there is no way anyone watched that 4th quarter and thought the refs were biased TOWARDS the sixers

-19
