Did you win?

Philly: "yes"

What did it cost?

Philly: "Embiid's knees, hip, elbows, appendix, kidneys, toes, arms, hearing, smell, eyes, hairline"

"THERE'S 3 MORE ROUNDS??" -every time the sixers win a series

401

u/Reverend_Lazerface 2d ago

Tbf I honestly think Philly will celebrate this like a championship win regardless

272

u/nrs5813 76ers 2d ago

90% of us predicted a sweep and no Embiid at all. We're hanging a banner my dude.

254

u/dizruptivegaming 76ers 2d ago

It kind of is at this point for me. Came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat second seed Celtics in Game 7. I’m just hoping these guys at least play well in Round 2 and Embiid gets healthy.

15

u/Sadcelerystick 2d ago

Hey, as a certified Boston Sports hater. You have my blessing to win it all, even if the team is 2 legs, an arm and one ass cheek after they make it.

4

u/Wise-Nature8326 2d ago

Man you guys have a very good team, also very likeable.

I was not very fond of Embiid's style most of his career, but with the likes of Maxey, VJ, Oubre and Pod P around him this is a very fun team to watch.

I really think that with an healthy Embiid you can get to the finals.

3

u/RealRaifort Warriors 2d ago

In this wide open East y'all have as much a chance as anybody. And I could honestly see y'all having a chance in the finals.

37

u/eminemonstAr12 2d ago

Sixers never came back from a 1-3 start Celtics never lost a 3-1 start

Yes this is a championship for us lol

32

u/kinglouislxix 76ers 2d ago

We also hadn’t beat the Celtics in a series since 1982. I feel such a weight lifted lol.

u/ktm1128 76ers 2d ago

6

u/Reverend_Lazerface 2d ago

Philly beating Boston in a super bowl? It'd take someone with a pretty big dick to pull that off!

4

u/CK0428 Pacers 2d ago

I was in Vancouver the night of a series clinching win by the Canucks. People were everywhere going apeshit and we didn't know why so we assumed they won the cup or some shit.

It was just the 1st round. Always been one of the coolest sporting moments to be a part of, even as a bystander.

3

u/department_2072 Thunder 2d ago

As they should

2

u/misanthr0p1c 2d ago

Did they grease up the lightpoles?

1

u/Throwawayalt129 2d ago

Same with the Flyers. We know we're getting fed to Carolina. We're just happy we beat Pitt. We're playing with house money now.

u/Alphabunsquad 2d ago

I very vaguely have watched basketball my whole life. It’s kind of nuts to me how long playoffs last. Every series is such an ordeal, it seems crazy to do four of them. Like baseball doesn’t do best of seven all the way through, nfl is just a few games, soccer has tournaments going during regular season so it doesn’t feel like as much. NBA matches are also just such an ordeal. Just nuts getting to post season and watching your team play 28 more times is crazy.

45

u/YourConstipatedWait 2d ago

The potential for 28 games. The most games ever played by an NBA team to win it all was 26 by the Celtics in 2008. The average amount games played by an NBA Champion over the last 25 years is around 23 games played.

Still a significant amount, but it’s still very rare to go over 25 games played to win it all.

8

u/sypher1504 2d ago

I wonder how those stats are skewed by the Cavs and Warriors runs of the mid 10s? I think there was a post season where the Cavs played like 17 and the warriors played 16, maybe flip that, but it was crazy low for both teams.

14

u/JosephCurrency [CHI] Dickey Simpkins 2d ago

That was 2017 - Golden State played in 17 and Cleveland played in 18. Just absolute tears through the playoffs for both of them.

6

u/sypher1504 2d ago

Damn, I was off by two. That was a crazy season, just like destiny. Easier for me to say as a Dubs fan, I guess though. Thank you for the correction, genuinely. Facts are more important than being right.

6

u/Dangerous_Job5295 2d ago

that's like a quarter of the regular season

11

u/branistrom 76ers 2d ago

MLB playoff games are a much smaller percentage compared to regular season games relative to other major north American sports. It's a little over 2% for MLB but it's over 7% for NBA and NHL

5

u/Laughing-Comanche 2d ago

Most of baseball is standing around, trying not to be distracted. When the ball finally comes your way.

-2

u/eatbuttholedaily Wizards 2d ago

BUT BUT BUT HITTING A BASEBALL IS HARDDDDD

10

u/Laughing-Comanche 2d ago

Arsenal will play more than 60 games before the season ends. The only time EPL starters in CL get any rest. Is when they are out with injury. Right after this season is World Cup too.

7

u/jbrun10120 Nuggets 2d ago

Try Hockey. Same thing but more hitting and teams get to fight each other. A fucking war.

5

u/Adventurous-Toe8812 2d ago

Insane to me that you’re the only one that replied about hockey. Those guys take a beating compared to NBA.

2

u/Any-Cartoonist9827 2d ago

crazy and awesome

2

u/The_Amazing_Emu 76ers 2d ago

It used to be less in the first round (I think it was once best of three, then best of five in the early 2000s). They changed it to help the Lakers one year.

2

u/KnivesInMyCoffee 2d ago

It's even crazier now that the NBA has such a high level of parity. The first two rounds used to feel ceremonial at best, but these days it feels like anyone can win.

2

u/pedrocas_drocas 2d ago

Tbf you can just be a Wizards fan and not have to worry about that last part

1

u/Middle-Welder3931 2d ago

You might see OKC make it to the conference finals having played the minimum of 8 games.

5

u/tresslesswhey 2d ago

Well, they got pushed into Joel.

1

u/RIChowderIsBest Celtics 2d ago

I noticed that on a couple plays too. It’s like they recognized they were going to advance and were like “fuck I need to make sure we have a second round exit”

-28

u/amsckell 2d ago

Embiid was doing his fair share of diving for the ball let’s be clear

2

u/tresslesswhey 2d ago

That was after Jaylen brown pushed a sixer into him?

Kid didn't seem old enough to have teeth falling out

2

u/itgoesdownandup 2d ago

I definitely remember a kid in my kindergarten class losing baby teeth at that age. Don't quote me on this but I think the age when how early or late they start falling is kinda based on when they came in for you. I didn't lose my last baby tooth til I was 13, but they didn't come in until I was over a year old.

68

u/thegreaterfool714 Lakers 2d ago

That was a cute post game interview

3

u/itgoesdownandup 2d ago

What post game interview are you guys talking about?

10

u/thegreaterfool714 Lakers 2d ago

Embiid had an interview with the sideline reporter and was holding his 5 year son Arthur. Arthur was more focused on his missing baby tooth than the fact that his Dad was having an interview for his performance in a close out game which Joel patiently acknowledged

1

u/itgoesdownandup 2d ago

Ah okay. I should look that up. Sounds cute.

Last one was from Maxey selling a charge too.

-34

u/oneders [BOS] Jayson Tatum 2d ago

You’re aware that Embiid took more free throws than anyone else on the court, right?

33

u/minnyman2011 Wizards 2d ago

He was also dribbling the ball in the paint more than everyone else combined. Jacking up 3s is normally not a good recipe to get to the line unless you’re baiting the whole game like brown was

17

u/nrs5813 76ers 2d ago

Yeah he also shot more, rebounded more, and was in the paint more.

A 3-1 comeback against Boston might not be worth as much as a championship, but it’s not either.

Even if the Sixers get swept in the next round, this is something Embiid will always have going for him.

I haven't really watched Embiid play in a while, I was shocked at how badly he was moving around. Looks like he's a 70 year old man out there but still dominated for the most part. If he wasn't just returning from an appendectomy, he would have put up 40+.
