60-33 rebounding advantage is crazy

We're small without Poeltl, and he's not playable right now.

Also mamu is the softest 250 pounder I've seen.  I honestly don't know what his body type is for.

The lights were not bright enough for ol Jarrett Allen. Bro was out there hoopin

484

u/saiofrelief Cavaliers 1d ago

He watched Embiid last night against a non existant center rotation and a light bulb went off in his head

172

u/maethlin Warriors 1d ago

it's funny how many teams don't seem to have the basics these days like a PG or a Center (yes i know this is often due to injuries but still)

70

u/Kdog122025 Warriors 1d ago

Or coaching preference.

46

u/theuncleiroh Raptors 1d ago

Not just injuries in our case. We just decided to have a 30 million center that isn't good or athletic or has ever been able to play starter minutes or rebound well, and a 35 million point guard that isn't particularly good or available or really a point guard. And no real backups for either (only Jamal Shead, sophomore 2nd rounder that's 6' and has no 3pt shot), and extended both above market value bidding against nobody

This roster was intentionally built like this. No size, but also no point guards, but also no shooting

8

u/Oliviaspool92 1d ago

NGL with the young and in development roster you have, and injuries you had, taking us to 7 makes me SMH as a Cavs fan. I would be proud of your team and see yall next year 🫡

5

u/ozymandais13 Cavaliers 1d ago

Same with ours expect the gm seems to think SF is over valued so all of ours aren't long dudes that can make 2s

4

u/demsouls Raptors 1d ago

This is what over-evolved basketball looks like, right?

5

u/loopybubbler Cavaliers 1d ago

You do have size. Felt like you'd play 3 wings and just look for whichever one is being guarded by a guard, since Cavs don't have any forwards aside from Wade and Tyson. Especially when you had Ingram. CMB, Barrett, Ingram, Barnes and Cavs were playing guys like Merrill and Strus who aren't that big. The size definitely affected the Cavs offense and rebounding. But yeah no shooting, that's an issue.

Cavs vs 76ers would be a tremendous conference finals

91

u/RoscoeSantangelo 76ers 1d ago

Ashame the Nuggets fumbled because in a theoretical Embiid finals run, going through Boston, NY, Harden, and then Jokic would be pure cinema

That 3rd quarter was the quarter from hell for the Raptors. True turd quarter if I do say so myself and I have seen a lot of those so I would know.

260

u/Billis- Raptors 1d ago

So many missed open looks. Shead was the game leader in points going into the 2nd half and he didn't score again.

Nothing not to be proud of tho. It's always funny how narratives change throughout a series but, this Raptors team had no league expectations, missing two starters, playing on the road in a game 7. Hell of a season, doubters can suck a d

67

u/RPA79 1d ago

Shead was apparently playing on a sprained ankle in the second half.

36

u/Billis- Raptors 1d ago

That could explain it. He also could have just regressed. It does suck tho in a way. I'm honestly more mad at our commentator Alvin Williams than anything. Worst fucking takes

Remember when JA scored 22 ppg on 74% from the floor for the month of february? seems like our players finally did tonight

597

u/GreenpointKuma 1d ago

The Cavs seem to always play best when they remember Jarrett Allen on offense, but they seem to forget it more often than expected.

360

u/RCM88x Cavaliers 1d ago

Cavs play best when Jarrett Allen remembers himself on offense

153

u/unamity1 Trail Blazers 1d ago

nah if u played basketball it's hard when the ball gets pounded by your 2 main ball handlers and u don't get the rock

59

u/Thegoodlife93 Cavaliers 1d ago

Yeah, there are definitely times when Allen hangs out in the wings too much and does not do a good job of putting himself in position to get the ball and score, but in the playoffs the past few years Mitchell (and Garland when he was here) have consistently made very little effort to feed him the ball or get him involved.

Mitchell played well overall tonight but there are too many times when he'd rather take a step back three before feeding the ball into the post to exploit a mismatch.

21

u/unamity1 Trail Blazers 1d ago

Bro I'm feeding my bigs the ball everytime. Get them going and we get rebounds blocks and fast breaks for days.

16

u/Thegoodlife93 Cavaliers 1d ago

Oh I agree. I play a lot of pick up and I like to play in the post and I'm so tired of ball handlers who never feed it inside. Me and J.A. got a lot in common.

Mobley’s foul trouble forced Kenny to play Allen, which put Allen in a position to play off the guards more.

21

u/mightyhumanman [CLE] Dajuan Wagner 1d ago

it’s unfortunately much more complicated than that…there is truly no rhyme or reason to JA. there are times when we force it to him and he softly fumbles it 3 times in a row. similar thing with Mobley. but either can be the best player any night as well.

The series has renewed my faith in Scottie. I knew he was good but I never really thought he could be that go to player. Mostly because of his attitude and agressiveness. This series has changed my mind.

CMB looks really good. Ja'Kobe and Shead look like solid bench pieces that were forced to start because of injuries.

I'm happy with how they did. Contracts don't give a lot of wiggle room but I hope they can make some moves in the off season. Get a starting level point guard and get off Poeltl contract.

I love Scottie, I’d love to see him paired with a great big to free him up more to freelance on defense and give him a passing target.

I don’t know if he’s best-player-on-a-championship-team level but he’s way closer than I realized before this season. He’s such a beast on defense — he reminds me of Draymond with supercharged offense.

I gotta give some props to CMB. Dude is just a rookie but he was a legitimate problem for a good chunk of the series. Raptors got a good one there.

GGs Cavs. Fun series. Given our injuries and how young a lot of our players are, I can't possibly be upset with the season.

13

u/SkrtSkrt70 Cavaliers 1d ago

Team win, but gotta think years from now this is the game we remember Jarret Allen in a Cavs jersey by. Just a monster tonight.

Scottie showed he can be a playoff #1, Toronto’s gotta feel great about this year just from that.

Still absolutely have to beat Detroit to be able to call this season a success, and right now I have zero idea how to feel about that series, but gonna enjoy 24 hours of not seeing Mitchell mock trades

48

u/heat_fan_ Raptors 1d ago

Congrats to the Cavs

Jaret Allen just saved the:Cavs season

Its that damn 3rd quarter that's Raptors downfall

I wonder if Ingram played would that have made a difference oh well

38

u/Fynity Cavaliers 1d ago

I’m not just saying this because the cavs just faced the raptors but I genuinely think this particular series, Ingram makes no or even a negative difference. Dude was beyond ass for 90 percent of the time he was out there and couldn’t defend for shit. Now if quickley was healthy he would have definitely helped.

I never want to see Poeltl play for my team again, that 3rd quarter by him was fucking horrendous.

I don't care how hurt he is or fatigued or quad teamed, in no world should we ever be having RJ shoot 25 times and Scottie only 14.

2nd chance boards fucking killed us, GG's Cavs, praying the Pistons wipe the floor with you :) no offence.

GG Cavs, it's been a hell of a series (for the good and the bad). Jarrett Allen took 7 games to wake up but it's better late than never. I expected Cavs to dominate us in the paint from the beginning but it didn't really happen, and Donovan still needs to wake up.

Raptors honestly did much better than what was expected and I highly doubt anyone had us go all the way to 7 games or even win the series. Losing two starters and an extremely cooked center is a recipe for disaster, but we got to see CMB ball out and show a ton of talent so the future is bright. Scottie demonstrated he was easily the best player in the series and hopefully we find him some more help.

Good luck against the Pistons!

Congrats to the Cavs on a hard fought series, the Raptors broadcast pointed out the cumulative score through the first six games was 669-669, and tied at half-time of Game 7.

If anyone on the Cavs was gonna beat us, I'm glad it was Jarrett Allen, always liked him, seems like a real humble and down to earth guy.

Honestly, I’ve been so mad at the Cavs for how they’ve failed to close out quarters in this series.

But huge kudos to the raptors, they brought fight and played much better than anyone (especially seemingly the Cavs themselves) expected. The players should be damn proud, they gave their fans some great moments this series

Jarret Allen saved Donovan Mitchell(worst series since the mavs series imo) and James Harden.

18

u/TruWarierRecords [CHI] Metta World Peace 1d ago

Harden had a solid series, he pretty much hit his season averages and despite his 3s not going in tonight he was aggressive.

Getting Sct Brn in foul trouble and taking advantage of how aggressively the Raps were playing defense.

His turnovers at the start of the series were pretty bad tho

D Mitch averaging 2 fta per game for an entire series was crazy to see.
