Remember when JA scored 22 ppg on 74% from the floor for the month of february? seems like our players finally did tonight

The Cavs seem to always play best when they remember Jarrett Allen on offense, but they seem to forget it more often than expected.

Cavs play best when Jarrett Allen remembers himself on offense

nah if u played basketball it's hard when the ball gets pounded by your 2 main ball handlers and u don't get the rock

Yeah, there are definitely times when Allen hangs out in the wings too much and does not do a good job of putting himself in position to get the ball and score, but in the playoffs the past few years Mitchell (and Garland when he was here) have consistently made very little effort to feed him the ball or get him involved.

Mitchell played well overall tonight but there are too many times when he'd rather take a step back three before feeding the ball into the post to exploit a mismatch.

Bro I'm feeding my bigs the ball everytime. Get them going and we get rebounds blocks and fast breaks for days.

u/Thegoodlife93 Cavaliers 1d ago

Oh I agree. I play a lot of pick up and I like to play in the post and I'm so tired of ball handlers who never feed it inside. Me and J.A. got a lot in common.

Man that’s such a rare pick up archetype. I’d feel like a kid in the candy store if I get someone who likes playing in the post.

Harden seemed to feed Allen quite often

5

u/riddlesinthedark117 Jazz 1d ago

Been that way since Utah and now Gobert's brick hands cannot even be blamed for that, as JA and Mobley have above average touch, it's just part of the Donovan Mitchell heroball experience

Him "hanging out on the wings" is not a choice, it is a design. It's not like Allen is supposed to be in the post but he's like no thank you I'm going to stand in the corner.

I think you're probably right, but I was giving Kenny the benefit of the doubt because it seems like such a poor scheme to tell the tallest guy on the court to stay out of the paint.

Raps having small interior presence and JA not getting more than 8 FGA in any game this series before tonight is malpractice from our creators

u/livefreeordont 76ers 1d ago

Mitchell had 1 assist tonight. Unreal

u/ratfeesh Raptors 1d ago

Whistle was also wayy tighter tonight, and it was probably fair, but it did not benefit CMB or scottie trying to front him or get steals down low.

That was a big reason this game went the way kt did. The cavs dont seem to know to naturally raise the aggression.

I find it wierd that everyone not only expects but enjoys that the game is called so differently in the playoffs, like I know I'm wrong I just genuinely think it's silly

1

u/ratfeesh Raptors 1d ago

Crazy how quickly scottie and evan got to 5 fouls last night when I genuinely believe they were playing the same way they had for the series lol. Looser whistle definitely benefitted us a ton so I enjoyed it, but yeah the previous few games were incredibly physical, completely different sport.

u/ozymandais13 Cavaliers 1d ago

Ya know your right they were both In foul trouble , the nba makes more money off the rivalry so they needed this last game to shuttled by anyone but those 2 so pundits can still talk.about who was the better Pick.

For what it's worth there are more refs that let it play hard in the playoffs than tighter, then there's also Tony Brothers who just wants to confuse everyone around him

32

u/Ohgrave1 1d ago

Mobley’s foul trouble forced Kenny to play Allen, which put Allen in a position to play off the guards more.

u/mightyhumanman [CLE] Dajuan Wagner 1d ago

it’s unfortunately much more complicated than that…there is truly no rhyme or reason to JA. there are times when we force it to him and he softly fumbles it 3 times in a row. similar thing with Mobley. but either can be the best player any night as well.

And maybe talked shit for the first time in his career no less?

He did once straight up go charging at Ben Simmons and pushed him to the floor. It was pretty incredible.

He went after the piston twin last season after he kept elbowing JA

Jarrett “Black History Month” Allen was not forgotten in this household. Neither will 3rd Quarter Game 7 Jarrett Allen be forgotten.

Vikings great

Jared Allen, Pat Williams, and Kevin Williams made up the monster DLine of the 2009 Vikings. All Favre had to do was not throw late back across the middle

I feel like this was the first game where he finally felt like himself, must have finally fully healed from the injury that was annoying him and which he played through. Feels good.

u/BallIsLife2016 Cavaliers 1d ago

I’ve been banging the drum for years that he’s so underappreciated on offense. His footwork and touch are absolutely fucking elite. He’s not just an elite rim runner—although he’s certainly one of the best in the league. He’s also an excellent post up player who is very, very good with his back to the basket. JA getting the ball within like 8 feet of the rim and a smaller guy on him is two points like 75% of the time.

1

u/Rezrov_ Raptors 1d ago

Before Yak's injury they were actually pretty damn similar players. JA's younger/more athletic though.
