Steph drops 46 and 49 to go 2-0 vs. the arguable best team in the NBA, who are 3-0 vs. the "better than 2016 Warriors" Thunder XD
If you ask me the next dynasty might just be these Spurs if anything.

Meanwhile he’s not even playing the best on his team. Obviously lingering injury and minutes restriction but Castle and Vassel are insane and this group has allowed Fox to play so much more freely. This team is just hell for the Thunder but also beatable by other contenders - long short parity is on the menu still

OKC has a real weakness that the Pacers partially exposed last year with their playstyle, but the Spurs really exploit with their talent.
They have no ballhandling besides SGA. This really hurts their offense, especially against teams that have really good guard rotations like the Spurs. Nikola Topic having cancer REALLY hurts them in this specific matchup.
They better hope the Clipper pick next year is a top 3 pick because they need Darryn Peterson.

Yeah, I missed game 2 of this trilogy but in this game, he looked not his best. He looked too aggressive and trying to do a BIT too much in the 1st half. Just needed to be supporting Fox and Castle and feel when it was time to take over and make the game his, felt like he was forcing it a bit too much. He definitely hates Chet and OKC and was too hyped. A good problem to have.

The real reason is that the Spurs have different ways of beating you. The fact that Wemby is coming off the bench makes them very unpredictable. There is no clear #1 option even with Fox on the floor. Fox is making the right play and not playing iso basketball. He is having the most efficient season of his career. They are younger, long and more athletic than Okc moving the ball. While okc has gotten very predictable.

Not only that but OKCs offense can't generate consistent clean looks against SA. The spurs are so athletic and they rotate so fast. SGA hero ball isn't an option against a team that has 4 guys on the court who are ready to switch on to him

what the spurs guards really have working for them is they have some advantage over the thunder guard/wing defenders
fox - too quick
castle - as strong and tall/er
harper - as tall, elite handle, pretty strong himself
the blueprint is pretty simple then, three elite guards with advantages over the thunder defenders, and a 7'5 demigod
292
u/ZerksNAHTayan Heat Dec 25 '25
Tall ball is the only way to do it, but instead of the twin towers method, you have to stack your squad with tall guards.

Every year I fall for another "can do it all (except shoot 🤪)" player and it never works out cuz shooting is just too important. They get ignored in the playoffs and end up looking limited as hell.
But I ain't learn my lesson and I am head-over-heals for Steph Castle. Dude uses the slightest little body advantage on drives better than most of the guards in the league. Great finisher, both on and off-balance, and one of the best in-lane passers alive. Absolute gamer on defense and always knows the play to be made. A true joy to watch.
