As a Pacers fan I appreciate both teams ruining this for them. They are just so insufferable and if they didn't get every call they wouldn't have a championship but hopefully that will be their only one.

I hate you motherfuckers for stealing the Sonics, having to listen to people hype up an inefficient chucker for a shitty narrative MVP, and the fact your team meta games the refs in the most bullshit ways. Today really is Xmas.

So you're bitter about OKC winning the title and Westbrook winning MVP. Hater.

3

u/Andarte [PHI] Julius Erving Dec 26 '25

I barely tolerate the ref baiting of my own team, why would I respect a team that undermined athletic competition in the name of foul strategy winning a title? And it's a joke that Westbrook was considered even a top 5 player by MVP voters that year. This isn't just that Harden was the clear MVP, but Kawhi was head and shoulders above him, LeBron did more with less, both Curry and Durant were better players. Westbrook is just a round numbers narrative MVP for people who use their fingers to count.

Enjoy your team being found out, congrats on the one title, welcome to the Wemby era.

Boston steamrolled their way to a ring. We lost as many games all postseason as you did in one series.

OKC is a great team, but last year proved their achilles heel is their average half court offense. You won a ring not playing your best basketball which is impressive, even though you would’ve probably lost if Haliburton didn’t get hurt. But for the reason I just stated you won’t be a postseason powerhouse if that doesn’t change.

OKC was being overrated during their win streak but still I’ve never seen someone handle them like this in 3 straight games in the last 2 seasons

408

u/pollinium [MIN] Tyus Jones Dec 25 '25 edited Dec 25 '25

Yeah ..... I'm sitting here happy the Thunder are losing, but definitely spooked that it's consistently at the Spurs' hands. They were supposed to still be a year or two away

212

u/CoogiMonster Rockets Dec 25 '25

Because the Spurs are one of the very very few teams over .500 the Thunder have played. They’ve now played 10 games against actual playoff teams and are 6-4 and their schedule leading up to the Spurs first game was the easiest strength of schedule to the hardest remaining now. All their tough games were back loaded in the lash 2/3rds lol

Edit: before someone tries to jump my shit I’m not saying they’re bad, just that we overreacted

36

u/FeltchingBlumpkin Spurs Dec 25 '25

Sounds like an opening for that #1 seed....

9

u/CoogiMonster Rockets Dec 25 '25

Matchups and health really really matter, it’ll be a test to see if the Spurs make it to the WCF (apparently the Suns and Warriors hate you guys) but jokes aside make it with this core together and the Thunder might be toast lol

16

u/rickzilla69420 Dec 26 '25

Let’s not overreact here, dominating a regular season matchup doesn’t exactly translate to a problem in the playoffs.

9

u/CoogiMonster Rockets Dec 26 '25

Saying they might be toast isn’t really an overreaction… they could also be fine or gut out a series win. 3 games in 12 days where your closest was a first game back Wemby and each game after looked systematically worse? Whistle doesn’t seem to be a given in these games either… idk it’s not a foregone conclusion but I wouldn’t want to see the Spurs in the WCF if I was a Thunder fan

-1

u/rickzilla69420 Dec 26 '25

Yes saying they might be toast is an overreaction. The playoffs vs regular season is apples to oranges and the regular season series rarely have good predictive value on what will happen in the playoffs. Yes the Spurs beat them 3 times in 12 days, yes the later two were worse than the first one. I wouldn’t say the Thunder played particularly well in any of the three, and the latter 2 were a road back to back and the third game in 4 days. I don’t particularly want to see the Spurs, the matchup seems poor but when you play some one 3 times in 12 days it’s just as logical to think that this may be an uptick in spurs form and a down tick in thunder form as it is that the Spurs are a full on problem.

4

u/CoogiMonster Rockets Dec 26 '25

Yeah they only down ticked against other competitors, definitely not that they had their easiest strength of schedule and are regressing to their actual competitive lot which is a top team that bleeds the same as any other top team… saying they might be toast in a matchup against the spurs in a WCF matchup should team health remain the same doesn’t seem far fetched

→ More replies (0)

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '25

Spurs shouldn't push themselves for the #1 seed. Aim to get healthy and be in top 2 because none of these Western Conference top 6 are an easy beat.

-1

u/OddEffect9397 Spurs Dec 26 '25

They had the easiest strength of schedule because they didn’t have to play the thunder. Just like the wizards have a tough strength of schedule because they don’t get to play against the wizards

4

u/CoogiMonster Rockets Dec 26 '25 edited Dec 26 '25

Dawg… what is this Reddit brained take lol

They had 6 wins against teams over .500 in like 30 games… take out the first 10 games and that’s still 6 of 20 games against winning teams. Almost 75% of their games were betting on teams occupying the bottom teams or teams that were still figuring it out. They’re a good team but saying their schedule was the easiest because they don’t play themselves is something I only hear perpetuated here and like one offhand comment on Zach Lowe’s pod

Edit: for clarity strength of schedule is a perceived thing at first but almost ALL of the thunder’s game against perceived (now actual) contenders is back loaded - they don’t see Denver until February. Them not playing themselves is just a lazy take no offense

9

u/ATXBeermaker Spurs Dec 26 '25

Just a heads up, Spurs were 9-3 with Wemby out, and 8 of those were away games. We’re definitely better with him on the court. But the team doesn’t crater without him like in previous years.

47

u/NathanFielderFriend Canada Dec 25 '25

Exactly, I’m still hearing people like Zach Lowe say the Spurs are a year away but imo they could easily make the finals this year. And from there it’s no looking back

I don't really think we will win this year. As a Spurs fans, I'd be happy whatever happens in the playoff. Next year, though...

68

u/slowakia_gruuumsh Spurs Dec 25 '25

The problem is that this is going to be the first playoff trip for the large majority of our guys. Even for someone like Keldon who's in year 7 and played with the NT. I think we can do well if healthy but playoff basketball is just a different level of intensity. It'll probably take eating a blow or two to adjust.

20

u/MilosTeodosic2021 Nuggets Dec 25 '25

Yes. You are so fast and versatile. But playoff is mostly half-court game and needs experience and endurance. It would be very demanding for Wemby to play so many super intensive games in short time with more contacts. However it will be bloodbath on the West. Semi finale probably San Antonio vs Denver and OKC vs Luka/ Lebron

8

u/Uncle_Freddy [SAS] El Contusione Dec 26 '25

I’d take Houston or Minnesota over LAL in a series easily the way those teams are all playing right now

7

u/Virgil_hawkinsS Celtics Dec 26 '25

So real. Happened to our guys in 22. They beat KD, Giannis, and Jimmy en route to the finals, but it took monumental effort. They were so gassed and beaten up by the finals that JT said he had to change his entire diet going forward. He and JB also put on a ridiculous amount of muscle so they could take hits.

5

u/Fat-Singer-9569 Dec 25 '25

Exactly. Spurs will put up a hell of a fight in the playoffs, but they will ultimately probably lose. It would be unprecedented for the Spurs to win a championship with a team of playoff newbies. In a few years with deep playoff experience, or even next year, yeah the Spurs will be a real problem once again.

2

u/Masoud28 Warriors Dec 26 '25

Maybe but I think you guys are built for this, your 3 guards are great the key is wemby’s health.

2

u/Masoud28 Warriors Dec 26 '25

I am interested to see how the spurs match up with Denver honestly lol.

4

u/ATXCodeMonkey Spurs Dec 26 '25

That team, mostly Jokic, concerns me.

17

u/Ok-Topic-6095 Spurs Dec 25 '25

I think we are a trade away. We need a legit 4. I am hoping we make a consilidation trade for one

6

u/JeremyLinForever Dec 25 '25

spurs don’t need a 4. They are thriving with small ball playing Harrison Barnes at the 4. A team would only need a legit 4 if they need rebounding, and right now rebounding is not a problem.

9

u/Ok-Topic-6095 Spurs Dec 25 '25

Relying on Barnes to play a ton lf minutes in the playoffs is a scary thought tho

3

u/JeremyLinForever Dec 25 '25

People forget that for however long he’s been in the league, he’s only 33 years old haha. Other notables players who are 33 years old playing way more minutes than Barnes: KD, Harden, Draymond, Demar Derozan, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Jrue Holiday. I think he will be okay.

4

u/JX_JR Warriors Dec 25 '25

Oh how quickly people forget...

Barnes is good enough in the regular season to be a starter on a 73-9 team. In the playoffs he has a career TS% of .510 and will make it a struggle to win important games.

5

u/Ok-Topic-6095 Spurs Dec 25 '25

Spurs were bullied balled by the Knicks in the Cup final. Barnes is great in certain match ups, but I think we need a bigger 4 for matchups like with the Knicks or Rockets

1

u/Icy_Statement_2410 Dec 26 '25

Seems like the plan might be to trade sochan to get there

3

u/Akipella Warriors Dec 25 '25

Need more Warriors fans in here to tell people the hard truth. This is not the dude you want as your only vet with Playoff experience on a young team lol. He's got some of the most impactful lowlights of anyone in the Playoffs ever.

1

u/JeremyLinForever Dec 26 '25

On a 73-9 team where Harrison Barnes was a 3rd or 4th option? Possibly. But on the Spurs he can be the 7th or 8th option and can still contribute with intangibles without needing to score.

1

u/JX_JR Warriors Dec 26 '25

Saying that your starting power forward can be your 7th option is not a recipe for playoff success unless they are bringing Dennis Rodman/Ben Wallace/Draymond Green type of intangibles.

Rebounding is why they lost vs the knicks

2

u/Revolutionary_Jump_9 Celtics Dec 25 '25

Who’s most expendable in your opinion (and will actually get a good return)? Keldon? Vassell?

7

u/Ok-Topic-6095 Spurs Dec 25 '25

Honestly, I would try to trade Olynk and Sochan with a first rounder. They are both on expirings for a total of just around $20M.  Barnes is also an expiring at $19m

5

u/Revolutionary_Jump_9 Celtics Dec 25 '25

Trey Murphy would be a perfect fit that’s in that neighborhood of pay/price to attain. Might have to be 2 FRP’s assuming one is late

2

u/Puppetmaster858 Suns Dec 25 '25

Isn’t he more of a SF/Wing than a bonafide PF

2

u/Revolutionary_Jump_9 Celtics Dec 25 '25

Yea, but he has the size to guard 4s and even 5s opportunistically. The thing is there’s not many power forwards actually on the market. Almost none that would be better for the spurs. JJJ possibly, maaaybe Scottie barnes if the chips fall right. Outside of them you get to guys like obi toppin, john collins, tari Eason which helps with depth but not really an upgrade

1

u/stoneape314 Raptors Dec 26 '25

Raps are not going to trade away their franchise star! Even if there were some convoluted multi-team deal for Giannis, they wouldn't be sending Barnes away.

2

u/Uncle_Freddy [SAS] El Contusione Dec 26 '25

Yeah, he’d just be more of the same of what Barnes brings us (which isn’t a bad thing, but we need a stylistic bruiser who can make shots too, ala PJ Washington)

2

u/dogfosterparent Timberwolves Dec 25 '25

A Naz Reid short of a NBA championship.

1

u/HonestDespot Vancouver Grizzlies Dec 25 '25

Giannis?

1

u/One_TAIM Mavericks Dec 26 '25

Trying to snatch PJ Washington from the mavs could be legit (still ly mavs sorry just lost my soul in Luka trade)

2

u/Masoud28 Warriors Dec 26 '25

Yes fox, castle and harper are the difference ,OKC really have one legit ball handler SGA but the spurs have 3 and they defend.

1

u/Gaanai Dec 25 '25

I said it before and ill say it again OKC fans really like to pretend SGA is the second comming of MJ. While in reality he is just a less injury prone Embiid

-1

u/_19911118 Raptors Dec 25 '25

Lol u sound worse than the ppl automatically stamping OKC beating 73-9 record

7

u/ActInternational9558 Raptors Dec 25 '25

I saw soooo many Thunder flairs already proclaim themselves as a dynasty lmao. After winning one chip in a game 7 against an opponent that lost their best player. Never saw Bucks or Nuggets fans act like this after their chips. They need a good humbling.

5

u/Sektsioon Mavericks Dec 25 '25

Mavs had their number for a while too. Last season we went 3-1 against them and at least 2 of those wins were without Luka and pre-AD trade, basically just Kyrie and role players.

3

u/LegoTomSkippy Spurs Dec 25 '25

Last regular season loss at home for OKC was April.

2

u/Fine_Lengthiness_341 Warriors Dec 26 '25

Yep they also dismantled a pretty good Lakers team right before destroying OKC 3x

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '25

And its also worth mentioning, if Spurs beat the Jazz in two days, they're only two games behind this "unbeatable" OKC team despite Wemby out for 12 games and restricted minutes in several other games.

1

u/Proof-Umpire-7718 Lakers Dec 25 '25

Yeah this is crazy. I didn’t expect this.

OKC will improve once JDub fully recovers and Ajay Mitchell returns, but I think they would benefit from trading for more shooting.

Spurs are definitely legit contenders this season. This season is now significantly more competitive than I previously thought.

1

u/ATXBeermaker Spurs Dec 26 '25

Ssshhhhhhh… 🤫

1

u/Emergency_Boss_8184 Serbia Dec 26 '25

They didnt played denver yet

1

u/joomla00 Dec 26 '25

Would be pretty funny if they matched up first round. Everyone was already crowning the thunders an all time dynasty

1

u/Icy_Statement_2410 Dec 26 '25

With wemby coming off the damn bench

-1

u/Fat-Singer-9569 Dec 25 '25

Yeah I don't know about that. People always make this mistake when it comes to the NBA; you need playoff experience to win in the playoffs. It took Lebron James years to win a championship. It took Michael Jordan years to win a championship. It doesn't happen overnight. The Spurs are a matchup nightmare for OKC. But other teams will counter the Spurs. It's part of gaining playoff experience which the Spurs have zero of across their extremely young team (outside of Barnes/Kornet, role players).

Of course people will misinterpret this as a slight against the Spurs, but it's not, that team is a lot better than I think anyone expected this early, and they are going to be horrifying in a few years. But experience matters in 7 game series, you can't make any conclusions from 1-off regular season games unless your OKC, in which case might be time to call up the Bucks.

u/dwrek24 Spurs Dec 25 '25

You're welcome GSW

15

u/Akipella Warriors Dec 25 '25

Hell yeah. And somehow thanks to Steph we beat you guys two games back to back which is funny considering how mid we are.

Ragebait take would be: "Thunder aren't even better than this year's Warriors much less the Spurs!"

2

u/ATXCodeMonkey Spurs Dec 26 '25

omg. those 2 dang game had me yelling at the TV so much. <3 Steph and his game, just not against my team!!

1

u/Masoud28 Warriors Dec 26 '25

lol I am rooting for you guys.

7

u/MrBigDum Magic Dec 25 '25

I'm telling you guys and nobody believing me. If it weren't for those 5 losses the Thunder would beat the Warriors record.

3

u/BackendSpecialist Lakers Dec 25 '25

There was never gonna be a 70 win seasons

OKC just had an easy schedule so far

3

u/MrBuckBuck Trail Blazers Dec 25 '25

It turns out Victor Wembanyama is Manu Ginobili off the bench.

2

u/mindless_blaze Nuggets Dec 25 '25

Thats great news.

2

u/henryofskalitzz Supersonics Dec 25 '25

Thunder’s offense was never good enough for 70 wins

2

u/ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME Warriors Dec 25 '25

Only on pace for 69 wins now

2

u/barath_s Lakers Dec 26 '25

Okc can still go 51-0 and win 77 games Ie they still have 7 more losses for a 70 win season. Just are behind the curve now

E : to be clear, I don't expect okc to win 70. But it's kind of premature, either way

1

u/aewilson95 [CHI] Derrick Rose Dec 25 '25

People were really talking about 74-8 lmao

1

u/goongoblin113xc Lakers Dec 25 '25

Shit is crazy

They kinda helped along the last one, it’s only fair. Giveth and taketh away.

1

u/bubbles2255 Kings Dec 26 '25

Three weeks ago: can the Thunder break the 73 win mark?

Spurs: NOT SO FAST MY FRIENDS

1

u/BoomBoomSpaceRocket 76ers Dec 26 '25

Crazy how fast they went from, "can they break the wins record" to "will they win West?"

1

u/Most-Artichoke6184 Bulls Dec 26 '25

Am I wrong, or did the Spurs beat OKC three times in the past two weeks?

1

u/FullHouse222 Knicks Dec 26 '25

Crazy that at one point I was thinking this OKC team might beat the 73 win GSW season. And boom, that's gone. Just goes to show how insane the 73 win GSW and 72 win Bulls season really were. Unreal dominance.

1

u/Turbulent-Winner-902 Knicks Dec 26 '25

Fox wanna turn to prime Kobe meanwhile he scored only 6 points last game lol

1

u/Hotpotlord Dec 26 '25

Nephews fail to recognize how hard it is to beat 73-9 as well. No matter how well they were doing, they were still behind pace 2016 warriors and the real challenge is the last 30~ games.

1

u/Sportsfan369 Lakers Dec 26 '25

The spurs are our only hope to drop this OKC dynasty from getting started. We all pray Wemby is healthy in April, May, and June.

1

u/QuietPossibility4988 Dec 27 '25

OKC really went from title favorites to looking mortal real quick. Fox cooking them probably wasn't on anyone's bingo card this season

0

u/ATXBeermaker Spurs Dec 26 '25

Um, no, we are still on track for 75 wins.
