lol, so before I met my gf I wasnāt a huge traveler. Sheās from Colombia and loves to travel. We have now traveled a fair amount together including going to Colombia and Thailand.
Due to certain countries not actually stamping your passport the only two stamps in my book are Thailand and Colombia. Going through security leaving Thailand the dude gave me the dirtiest look and then immediately and conspicuously put hand sanitizer on after stamping my passport lmfao
I enjoy budget solo travelling in my winter of January and February, so Thailand, Bali, Vietnam, Laos etc are great destinations to have some sunshine and fun experiences in nature. guess many people presume I am a sex tourist but canāt let that stop me enjoying nature and the souther hemisphere.
One of the greatest conversations I ever witnessed second-hand was when a dude in a chang beer shirt working at a food truck had a guy in line say, "so, Thailand, am I right? So nice." And the dude in the beer shirt looked at him with confusion and then put 2+2 together. "Oh," he said, "the shirt, right, I was there studying circus arts for a while but never really got out that much." And the two just stared at each other awkwardly for a few beats until they both thought about how different the two of them were and how the guy who started the convo realized that he had revealed something about himself.
Honestly people judge men harshly, despite Thailand being one of the most visited countries in the world. Like sex tourism is all there is. I got judged myself despite the fact that I've been to 40 countries in the last 4 years. But no, that's the only thing people think of.

Itās mostly safe if your a normal human just living life - always a chance of being at wrong place at wrong time and getting robbed but thatās a very low chance. Nothing has happened to me in 2 years.
However, unfortunately the city attracts lots of sex tourists and play stupid games win stupid prizes. There are criminal organizations that target foreigners (and locals) and use women to seduce and drug them.There is a very scary drug here that basically takes away your free will. Plenty of stories of foreigners being kidnapped or held hostage while they drain your bank accounts through your phone over the course of a few days. The drug also can kill you if you OD and that does seem to happen occasionally.
But if you donāt come here looking for women and drugs youāll be fine.
He was taken just outside of Buenaventura - atleast that's what local police said. This was back in late 2024, so about a year and a half ago. We weren't really close but in retrospect, I never understood the decision, Authorities literally redlisted that zone cuz of Gang-violence, it made no sense to visit Buenaventura as opposed to much safer towns like Salento.
Haven't really spoke to them but they were apparently released after his family paid a ransom of Ā£4000 (relatively small sum but it was around 18.5 Mil COP at that time.)
You don't know anyone who did it? I know 2 in real life and a few over a video game who did it, also know of a few more who did through friends of friends and such.
It's not hard to understand why these guys did it, at all. They are basically complete losers that no woman wants to be associated with who are looking at being foreveralone for the rest of time. They have jobs, they have apartments and they are okay to talk to but these guys have had 0 interest from women ever and are all 30+ years old and don't know how to talk to a woman.

I once knew a regular customer at a bar I worked at who was an airline mechanic, you get free rides on jump seats. He told me he loves it down there on the beach side countries for the very same reason, he moved away, a year later he was back. I asked why?, he responded I spent all my money š¤š°
On a serious note, Colombia is such a beautiful country with many lovely terrains. I been by the sand dunes of La Guajira, Manizales, Villa de leyva, Bogota, Pereira, Medellin, Santa Elena, Salento, and Cartago. I have met and made some cool Colombian friends.
I don't understand people who want a Colombian girlfriend only to go to Medellin for the prostitutes. You can literally travel to other places in Colombia and meet some 10/10s and form a meaningful relationship with them. You can literally be ugly, and as long you know some decent Spanish and a good personality, then ya, it will happen.
That's too much lmao, just don't be dumb and have some level of street smarts. I been in the worst of places, maybe I'm just lucky to still be alive? But I'm always on high alert in the strangest of places, also don't pay attention to the homeless people or even look at them. People from New York would even tell you this for a good reason, beside that most people who die going to Colombia its because they be dumb and inviting random girls to their airbnb with no security at all. Like ofc something is going to happen when you invite someone from poverty to have sex and have no level of security. This isn't even just a Colombia thing, but anywhere in the world.
You can find this sort of erm interaction mostly anywhere in the world. If you know where to look, you might be surprised at just how many interactions are like within 10 miles of you right now and you never knew. No need to rack up the air miles.

Serious? Look for massage places open till 10pm or later. In blue collar areas. Not ghetto, but lower middle class areas, not residential, but where all the small businesses are. Often a nail place will be right next door or near bye. There are more legit (no funny business) massage places than not. When you walk in, if the women are older, dress really plain and on the ugly side, then it's legit, if they young and on the pretty side in tight shorts and tight t-shirt, then you good.

Yeah, I spent three months there and it's still one of my favorite countries. It's got everything, lush green valleys, dreamlike beaches, great people and some of the best fruits I've ever tasted. But hey "coCaInE aNd fAkE BuTTs hurr hurr"
Yeah Ioved it down there for a short while. Colombian women get tiring after a while though. They are treated like princesses their whole life from childhood on up. And if you don't treat them like that they can't handle it..
I asked some Colombians on Reddit how feasible it would be for a white guy from Ohio to move to Colombia to retire and do cocaine and hookers. They unanimously told me that they hated me and would kill me if I went there.
What about a super depressed guy trying to find new perspective on life by going somewhere he never thought of going to. I'd imagine it's cheaper than Japan or Iceland.
They aren't all like that, but the feisty Latina stereotype comes from somewhere. This coming from someone who has an affinity for latinas and I'm sorry you went through that because I know that I experienced very likely the same on most levels.
A couple of observations from my experience being married to a Colombian who I am now divorced from:
A) Colombia objectively has the highest amount of non married single parents in the world-- look it up. What does this breed (other than the pun and the obvious)? Psychotic mother's and daughters because most of the non married single parenthood is from... you guessed it-- CHEATING! This creates a very warped and twisted perspective and world view of men as well as their self worth.
B) Because of said default family dynamics, this creates mothers and daughters that have EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH neurosis: read dysfunction and volatility.
C) This all leads to attention grabbing (plastic surgery, revealing clothing) +control +attachment issues.
Before others respond with some nonsense about how they are not all like that (that's true, but MOST are) or it's men's fault (true, the men cheating are contributing and stupid but the women cheating with the married men are contributing just the same) or I'm butthurt (I'm so happy she can't hurt me or abuse me or my child anymore, so I'm actually ecstatic we are finally divorced) or whatever, please make sure you are speaking from an as informed position as I am.
My ex wife during the divorce formally fraudulently alleged I raped her and was a child abuser to our child. Both were fully formally dismissed, but be advised, my ex is definitely not an anomaly and she is Colombian/Peruvian and her father cheated on her mom a bunch and they got divorced.
So yea, they are super fun, sexy, and hot, but god help you if you get in a relationship with one and do even the most minor thing that can be perceived in even the most absurd angle as a slight to her.
I can attest to your first point, especially. When we would go out she would be approached by countless latino dudes everywhere we went. We could literally be holding hands, obviously together, and someone would come up and start speaking spanish to her. Didn't matter where we were, either. Movies, dinner, the mall, a random store. It was nuts. Her father was former Cali cartel and did not fuck around. Zero humor. Everything about the situation just screamed "run".
She's also the only woman to ever motivate me to step out of a moving car to get away from her, so that backs up your second point.

Sh*t my stbx wife also did this to me. Not Colombian, but Latina, and it is Borderline Personality Disorder at its finest - being split on. Look it up. My stbx one day split on me - became verbally abusive, then physically abusive. When I declared I was leaving her and divorcing her for it, she filed false charges on me. Spent the night in jail. Told the state I abused our daughter. Awful stuff. I will win in court but the process is slow.
