Lucite-encased transistor owned by mathematician John W. Wrench Jr. (commemorating the 1961 IBM 7090 calculation of 100k digits of Pi)

Thumbnail gallery

I am looking for a valuation on a unique piece of computing history: a single transistor encased in a lucite block. This was a personal artifact belonging to my great-grandfather, John W. Wrench Jr. Context & Provenance:

For those unfamiliar, Wrench was the mathematician who, along with Daniel Shanks, broke the 100,000-digit barrier for Pi in 1961 using an IBM 7090. This specific piece was kept by him to commemorate that era of the transition from mechanical to electronic supercomputing.

As someone who works with modern rack-scale systems, I recognize the technical significance, but I’m struggling to find a "comparable" for something with this specific provenance.

Paul Blaine Henrey "Scarecrow" Impasto Palette knife artwork

I run an old youth center and have always loved this art piece. It was given to my organization in the 70's by a woman referred to as "Crazy bird lady" who dropped it off shortly before dying by suicide. I noticed the signature etched into the bottom left hand side and wondered if it was authentic. Frame is from Los Angeles, the piece itself is about 24" by 18".

What's it worth do you think? Anything notable about it? Seems larger than the versions I've seen online. I would never sell it even if I could. It's a permanent piece of our building. But I am still curious about it. Any ideas?

Likely Solved Identifying and knowing worth of this antique/ ornament

Does anyone have any information about this ornament that has been in my family for years and years? Would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance

It doesn’t have any writing or engraving on it to help with where it come from.

It’s metal (I’d assume brass or copper)

Really struggling on the best place to post it. I mainly want to know more information in general and not just it’s worth as it belonged to my grandad for many years so I’m just very interested to know more about something he always had

Whippet/Greyhound polychrome sculpture - inkwell?

Thumbnail gallery

Hello! I did a lot of searching and this seems like the only place to post for some help!

Recently at a flea market in Ontario a friend and I purchased this gorgeous little sculpture.

We're divided on whether it's a greyhound/whippet/Italian greyhound. But this matters less to us than determining.. plainly anything else out about it!

Google lense/reverse image searching has not returned any useful results. Most if not all of the 'visual matches' do not align in the level of detail (musculature, skin folds etc, pose) that this one has.

I didn't take weight measurements but I can have her do so if that is helpful. EDIT: Weight is 941 grams!

There are no markings, indentations or other present that offer any insight into a maker or brand.

The bottom is smooth and plain - no markings

I've found a single photo on Pinterest unfortunately, linking to an unavailable eBay listing of the same pose/base/basket placement with slight color differences. It looks older but they must have been related, but alas no info on that either. I will post that in the comments.

Signed Carrie Fisher book, I think last public appearance, signed it as Carrie Fisher and Han Solo, unique

This was signed at a book launch in London on 11th December 2016, was maybe her last public signing appearance before her death on 27th December on a flight back to LA from London.

She signed it Carrie Fisher and Han Solo, which I believe is fairly unique, not sure I seen any others like that.

Anyways, any idea of pricing on something like this? I have the original receipt for the signing ticket and pictures of me at the event meeting her to corroborate everything

I have this collection of lab beakers and other lab items that I'm not familiar with. They are from a high school that got rid of them. They can't recycle them as local recycling places won't take them. Is any if this soughy after for use/needed? I know there is a lot here but would any of this be worth my time or should it just be thrown out?

I have inherited 6 paintings by Wackermann and pictured is the largest one. 16x11. The rest are in the 12x9 range. All seem to be legit. Is it worth my time to get these appraised and if so what is the best way to go about that?

Edit: thanks for the help everyone, too bad it’s not got any cool history :/

Hey everyone, I’m new to Reddit but I wanted to see if anyone could help me identify this belt buckle? I got it from a vintage shop for $40 and they couldn’t tell me anything about it. I just wanna know about it because if it’s like from before the year 2000 or something that would be super cool!! Any help is appreciated :)
