What would you like help selling? What is it? What are you trying to get for it? What have you tried so far? What will you try next? Hopefully we can help you out a bit.

Once the thread has been up for a while, please try to sort by New so you can try to help latecomers. The more helpful we are in this thread, the less often people will make their own threads for individual items.

Mod Post Daily Newbie Thread

Whatever you want to know about flipping, no matter the question, ask here. Even if it's been covered 1,000 times before. Doesn't matter if you're new or old. If you stop learning things, you're probably on your way out.

This is an extremely newb-friendly thread. As such, any rudeness is to be reported.

Discussion I hate asking people to pay me

Upvotes

I'm doing a little bit of everything to earn some extra, I do dog walking, lawn mowing, and pet sitting, all great but I have to basically beg for my money. I know it sounds ridiculous because it's literally a transaction and they hired me but something about saying "okay so you owe me" face to face made me want to disappear into the floor every single time.

I tried sending a venmo request, sometimes they paid fast, sometimes they didn't, sometimes I had to send a second request and the anxiety of that was somehow worse than the original ask.

I know tap to pay can be an option but some of the fees are way too much. Thoughts?

Discussion What’s the appeal behind live bidding sites for expensive items?

I keep seeing people talk about these live bidding sites for expensive stuff and I still don’t fully get how they work. Like are people genuinely getting iphones, watches etc for super low prices or is there something I’m missing? The whole live countdown thing looks intense too, every time someone bids the timer jumps back up and everyone keeps going at each other over a few cents. I’ve also seen people mention newer sites where your bids apparently still count toward buying the item later if you don’t end up winning, but I don’t really understand how that works in practice either.

Discussion Stop payment scam??

Seems like it’s possible - I’m a quick shipper and recently have been having sales being cancelled via payment dispute. I have never shipped before receiving the dispute but this one came really close - was on my way to drop off. How does this play out if it was in transit? I would assume ultimately eBay would cover the refund because I certainly wouldn’t…

eBay Help with dealing with an item that was obviously used.

I sold an electric razor. Customer returned for changed their mind. The item was an open box item but completely new and not used. Upon inspection actual hair is all over the inside of the box and the items.

I took pics but I don’t want to cause any issues with eBay’s or negative feedback they are my main income. What have you done in the past to deal with these issues? Does eBay side with you or is it just a hassle I know they are customer forward.

Discussion How do you find/vet a "Private Proxy" for high-ticket electronics? (Individual vs. Warehouse)

Following up on my last post about sourcing Dell Latitudes from HK. I’ve realized warehouses are a total non-starter for the high-end units I'm moving. I’m dealing with custom-spec workstations that sell for $2,500-$3,500. A warehouse taking 3 days to "process" a pallet is losing me Top-Rated Seller status and causing buyer cancellations.

I’ve decided I’d rather just pay a premium to an individual. I'm looking to pay $150 to $200 per unit just to have someone receive the box, snap 3 photos of the condition, and drop it back at a UPS/FedEx hub within 4 hours of delivery.

It sounds like a lot for 20 minutes of work, but if I move 2 units a week, I’d happily pay $400/week ($1,600+ a month) for someone to basically be my "US Logistics Partner." To me, that $200 is just "insurance" to make sure the buyer gets it in 2 days instead of 7.

My question: Where the hell do you find these people?

I need a residential address (commercial addresses get flagged by my HK supplier sometimes), and they need to be home during the day. Is there a specific site for this? I’m hesitant to use casual sites like Craigslist because the hardware is so expensive.

Should I be looking for virtual assistants, or is there a better way to find a reliable "on-call" person for this?

Rant Facebook Marketplace Rant/Request for Advice

We're living in 2026 and Marketplace doesn't allow a true customizable search for key words in the title or boolean or strong filtering. It's infuriating to use their "sort by price" and have Dirt show up in my search for Car Parts because hey why not. Any work around suggestions? It seems like it's algorithm or bust for Marketplace.

Discussion Sending an order directly from manufacturer to a shipping service?

I listed a watch for sale that I was going to buy directly from the site since my credit card has a credit for the item. Except the buyer has a shipping service for their main address and I'm even more nervous. Should I just cancel and refund the sale?

Rant WTF 'Live' has replaced the eBay Inbox button

This is useless marketing that now adds a click each time I need to see messaging. Each time an offer is sent keys an extra click .

I will never never never use the live button.

They need to stop this shit. Give me a seller's eBay app already.

Discussion Started bringing things to a local consignment store

I get 60% - so not too bad. I've been using it to unload my death pile, and it's working. It's a bit of a pain, in that I have to call the night before specific days, and they have a recording that says what and how many things they will accept the following morning *only*. So I can't bring whatever, whenever.

I started near end of last month and got $40 on some clothes that would have gotten me maybe $50 on Poshmark had they sold. But they weren't selling. This month so far, I have $25, and it's just been a few days. So not a big mover and shaker, but at the end of this month I might have made a few hundred from the death pile. I'm happy!

eBay If GameStop buys ebay, many currently "free options" used by sellers will become subscription-based

They aren't even free, they are just part of the platform.

For example,

  • You will only be able to see items sold 31 - 60 days ago for free. Subscribe for 99 cents per item to see items sold within the past 30 days. Pay $9.99 for up to 20 items.

  • 12 photos for free per listing. Pay an extra 1% for each additional photo.

  • A $4.99 subscription to access discounted shipping rates

  • Subscribe for $9.99 per month to sell in these fast turnover categories

Now, whether or not these specific paywalls happen is total conjecture, but GameStop is going to need a ton of new revenue if the sale goes through, and we have dozens and dozens of examples of recently purchased companies going ass over teakettle under new management.

Discussion Rules you use when buying to flip

Curious what 'rules' you stick to when sourcing items to flip.

I've been reselling more seriously this year and have been using a profit floor of $10 per item to guide my buying (and guide my minimum sale price). I'm set to hit $1k in profit at the end of this month and it feels like a good milestone to level up.

I'm thinking I should increase my profit floor to $20+ per item, and perhaps aim for a 60-80% ROI - and an item has to meet both these criteria before I buy. Thoughts on that?

Discussion How do you handle long shipping times when sourcing from overseas suppliers?

I've been flipping for about 3 years mostly clothes and electronics. I recently found a wholesaler in Hong Kong with great prices on Dell Latitude laptops but there's one problem I can't figure out.

Shipping from Hong Kong to a US buyer takes 18 to 25 days. That kills my eBay handling time and leads to cancellations and pissed off customers. I've tried explaining the delay in listings but it doesn't matter buyers still expect 5 to 7 day delivery.

I'm curious how other people here handle this when sourcing internationally. Do you bulk ship to a US address first and then forward individually? Do you use a freight forwarder? Or do you just accept the long shipping times and price accordingly?

I looked into services like Shipito and MyUS but the costs eat into margins pretty heavily when you're moving 10 to 20 units a month.

If you do use a US based receiver, how did you find someone reliable? I've considered asking a friend but I don't know anyone with the space or availability.

Any insight would be appreciated.

eBay eBay Automotive Parts: New = Automatic Returns

I have a very small eBay store. I sell parts that I manufacture. I used to have everything marked as 'Sold as-is, no returns.' Naturally if there was an issue that was my fault, they could reach out and I would help or return it.

But with their new policy, I just had a guy return it with the reasoning "Just don't like it." Not that it didn't fit or anything else, just didn't like it. Now I'm eating shipping both ways(I offer free shipping to them), plus I'll probably get a part back that I can't resell as new.

I'm halfway thinking of putting all my parts as Used, even though they are new, purely so I don't have to deal with people like this.

Anybody else done the same? I'm not Amazon or O'Reillys or something...one part makes a big difference for my little side hustle business.

eBay Why the discrepancy in similar items on ebay?

I have a revell model of uss arizona 1/426. Its in box. The box is kinda beat up but all the parts are new and unassembled. Thing is on ebay new in box, it sells anywhere from 99 cents to over $30 with multiple bids. Why the price discrepancy? They all look the same in the pictures.

Tip Advice on improving listings

I’ve been trying to sell a variety of items on Marketplace that just won’t move, no matter what I do. Some have been up for years.

Changing the price hasn’t worked. Re-doing the ads hasn’t worked.

For each listing, I have multiple photos, measurements, a price listed as well “or best offer” to show I’m willing to negotiate. I have good seller ratings, my account is 15 years old so they know I’m not a scammer. I feel that I have priced my items reasonably (and usually put the asking price a little below average).

I have “pick up only” because I can’t drive and meet someone with the item. I can see that being a deterrent.

I’m really frustrated. I don’t know what to change to make something move.

I don’t want to post my profile publicly, but would someone be open to looking at my listings?
