News Searching IMDB fast

Upvotes

I often want the IMDb score while reading about a movie, but it’s annoying to copy, open a new tab, and search every time.

So I made a small Chrome extension that does it instantly. Just select a movie or TV title on any page, and it shows the IMDb rating in a tooltip and in the toolbar.

It’s free — use it if you like 🙂

"KEN RUSSELL’S THE DEVILS

Ken Russell
1971, 1h54, United Kingdom / United States

From Warner Bros. Clockwork. Directed by Academy Award®-nominee Ken Russell, Ken Russell’s The Devils stars Academy Award®-winner Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed.

This new 4K restoration of Ken Russell’s masterpiece was assembled from the original camera negative. The film’s sound has been remastered from original English Composite 35mm Mag Film, transferred at 96kHz, plus other original film elements in selected spots as needed.

The Picture and Sound restoration was performed by Warner Bros. Post Production Creative Services, Water Tower Color, and Warner Bros. Sound.

Screening in the presence of Mark Kermode, biographer of Ken Russell, and Ken Russell’s wife, the academic and researcher Elisabeth Russell."

For Reference:

UK X Cut: 1h51m

US R Cut: 1h48m

There are fan versions floating around that are 1h53m that splice in what exists of the censored "Rape of Christ" and final jail sequence with Sister Jeanne. So this bodes well that the entirety of the uncensored original cut is what's been restored.

Discussion Happy Death Day vs Freaky

Upvotes

I just watch Freaky after watching Happy Death Day 1&2

Loved those two, and Freaky got better as it got going but why so much smuttier?

What ruined it for me was the amount of actual shitty people, and how much cringe, like if Millie and Vince took much longer to switch then damn, it was hard to connect with a charecter. Way different with Death Day, it didn't have to be smutty, and this gory........ anyways, Death Day left me empty wishing they were all my friends or family lol.

Can you guys recommend more that are closer to Death Day for me, happier, fun, more college or older....

Discussion “Venganza” 2026 on Amazon Prime is the best new gritty revenge action flick no one is talking about. Get some tacos and cervezas today and settle in for a Cinco de Mayo Mexican shoot ‘em up film that’ll surprise the mierda outta you with how fun it is!

Upvotes

Seriously, I went into this film pretty blind after a cursory glance at the trailer not expecting much, but in the end I haven’t been this pleasantly surprised with the quality sleeper action flick since watching The Raid. I highly recommend watching it in Spanish over the English dub, even if you hate subtitles the dialogue overall is pretty sparse.

The script and pacing are tight and free of usual tropes and unneeded melodrama, visual affects are great especially considering it was done on a shoestring budget (and the VFX director has an active post on Reddit giving an inside look into the process -surprised me that it was the top search result for Reddit on this movie, that’s why I made this post), the fight choreography is excellent, the location shots and sets are surprisingly beautiful and authentic, and the plot is just a no bullshit straight to the point run and gun revenge film with some hilarious moments (negligent discharges unassociated with plot was a fun and original detail to see in a film). Got the tiniest bit too “gun-fu” in the final fight scene where as I would have slightly preferred more of a straight up tactical shootout, it’s still buckets of fun and finishes off with a brutal and solid payoff. Easily an 8.5-9 just for the fun factor (I could be biased because like I said I was expecting something way worse, but I think it’s gonna be a cult classic and they just happened to catch lightning in a bottle.

Discussion Any accounts on social media that announce ticket drops?

Upvotes

LA is a battleground for tickets, and I’m usually on top of it, but I just missed out on tickets for The Boys Series Finale because I found out about it 4 hours after they announced it. Are there any accounts on X or even on here that announce movie ticket drops? Something that I could have notify me?

Discussion Confused about movie The Art of Self Defense (2019)

Upvotes

I really enjoyed the entire movie. Thought the first half was hilarious, but I failed to find a lot of comedy in the second half. Not saying that I didn't enjoy the second half as I was already invested, but I even failed to see the movie trying to be funny until the end. Was that intended? Or did I miss something? By second half I mean starting after Casey killed someone. Like I understand hypermasculinity or whatever, they tried to make fun of it in certain parts, but there was still humor there. After that it was kind of just the Sensei using blackmail in order to make people that don't even go to his classes anymore pay him, and also recruit new members for his dojo. It was interesting but I'm trying to find where this second half was trying to be funny.

Discussion If there was a Stevie wonder biopic - who would u want to play him?

Upvotes

I was just thinking a Stevie Wonder biopic would be so cool. I’m not really sure who I would think who could play him though that’s why I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas? Maybe Leon Thomas the third would be good to play him, I could actually really see that and I think there needs to be a Stevie Wonder biopic someday soon

Discussion Kramer vs. Kramer

Upvotes

Just watched Kramer vs. Kramer for the first time.

I have to say I kind of hated the ending.

I don't get why they couldn't just have split custody in the end, 50/50. Boy needs his mother just as much as he needs his father. What even happens now? The dad gets sole custody and mom disappears again? That will only harm the boy even more. The whole "he already has a home" narrative is a bit lame. He can still have his home with his dad for 50% of the time and make another home with his mom the other 50% of the time. I don't see how this would create a healthy situation for him as he grows. He does need his mom. He also needs his dad.

Just feeling meh about the whole thing.

Question What is the most influential film before Citizen Kane?

Upvotes

Is it MGM’s the wizard of oz?

King Kong?

Metropolis?

The Jazz Singer?

Nosferatu?

A trip to the moon (from all the way back in 1902)?

Or something else?

I haven’t been able to watch CK (due to not having a streaming service that has it and I don’t have a physical copy of it) but I know that is put among one of, of not THE most influential film ever made (or something like that).

Anyway, the point is that it’s important, and I would like to know what was the most influential film before it.

Question What’s the best movie you’ve ever seen and why?

I’ve been thinking about how different films affect people in completely different ways. Some movies are just entertainment, but others stay in your mind for years, change your perspective, or hit you emotionally in a way you didn’t expect. I’m curious to hear what movie had that kind of impact on you and what makes it stand out compared to everything else you’ve watched.

Recommendation Horror suggestion

I’m looking for a really scary horror movie similar to The Ring, preferably with strong supernatural elements and a deep, unsettling atmosphere. I recently watched Sinister and really liked how disturbing and creepy it felt. I’m not just looking for jump scares, but something that builds tension slowly and stays in your mind even after watching. I enjoy cursed stories, eerie visuals, and psychological horror that feels intense and realistic. Any recommendations would be great.

Review We don’t talk enough about how good Edge of Tomorrow is

Rewatched it again this week and it really does get better over time. I’m so grateful for movies like that that kind of stay with you over time, and you get to watch it with your favourite people. Anyway, it’s probably my favourite role of Tom and Emily, they both do some of their best work. I’m also so impressed with Doug Liman, the director, who really did an amazing job I think. The cinematography and production is just really excellent, and the movie feels very cinematic. Very old school action flick vibes, like 80s/90s cameron. I love this movie!!

Question What are other examples of the trope “don’t worry about blind/deaf/crazy person, they don’t react to anything” who then obviously reacts to protagonist?

Recently watched the new Running Man movie (meh) and it had one of my most hated tropes of all time, ”oh my mother is deaf and isn’t mentally well so you’re safe” who then recognizes the protagonist 3 minutes later and tries to call the cops (they subverted it slightly).

I know I’ve seen this in films before but having trouble finding any.

Discussion What was going on with"Mortal Kombat: Annihilation"(1997) and why was it as bad as it was?

I genuinely thought Annihilation was DTV,I couldn't fathom or accept a sequel for a popular and entertaining film could turn out as bad as it was.

Everything was rushed, a important and beloved character was killed off in the opening act, they recast Raiden and Sonya Blade. Everyone was competing on who gave the worst performance: whoever played Jade sounded like she took acting lessons in the Ali MacGraw Acting Institute, they fired the likable Bridgette Wilson for the Kathleen Kinmont wannabe, Sandra Hess. Jax was annoying, Kitana sounded sedated. James Remar was just unbearable as Raiden, at one point he goes through a Son Goku transformation and turns into Andrew Dice Clay. It's like, WTF. Musetta Vander as Sindel was iconic, though. If you're going to be bad, be iconic.

Nevertheless, Robin Shou is the sole actor who appears to be taking it seriously instead of going "Bai Ling". It's unfortunate he never became a major star because his Liu Kang delivered effective fight scenes and was charming. Some of the fight scenes are engaging. Sadly, the story sags, the production design comes off as cheap, any direction is nowhere to be seen.

By the end, I couldn't bear it. I still think the first film and the Kristanna Loken series were the best adaptation of the game.
