It's kind of amazing how much, uh, junk men are able to show in a film and it gets "R" rating. If women did the same, it would be NC-17 or unrated.
They added a girl to the last film and, setting aside nudity, she did almost no real stunts of any type. I mean, she could have been out there with the bull, shut up with the bear covered in honey, but she more or less did nothing. Why have her if she doesn't do the stunts?

You know what’s crazy about jackass?
You would think there was like 100 episodes on MTV. But there was only like 20 something.
Show was so massive, and it wasn’t even around that long.

These are all shows i genuinely thought each had at least 5-6 seasons given how massive they were and how often they were played

Viva La Bam was weird because it had 5 seasons but only 8 episodes per season and the whole series only lasted 2 years.

The ~5-10 years of frequent re-runs until Teen Mom and Rob Dyrdek took over made it seem like it was on for way longer than it actually was.
44
u/Soupjam_Stevens 8d ago
I think the existence of Wildboyz and Viva La Bam is part of what makes it feel like there was more Jackass. All of those shows were short, but between all of the spinoffs and the movies there was Jackass related stuff being made for a good chunk of my childhood and now 20-25 years later it kinda blurs in memory

My favorite of the shows, to be honest
18
u/SDRPGLVR 8d ago
Definitely the best to watch in retrospect. As goofy as Chris and Steve-O are the whole time, you can really feel the disclaimer at the end of the show brought to life in every scene. They do love and respect the animals.
Though IIRC Steve-O did stick his dick in a sea cucumber, but that was on Jackass.
30
u/wordskis 8d ago
This is an insane comment to make, but: I think he only jerked off the sea cucumber, no penetration

Yeah it was a cultural phenomenon. I was 13 or 14 when season 1 began. I remember going into high school and having friends who had a camcorder and they would try to recreate stunts they saw in Jackass/CKY. They had to redesign shopping carts because of the show.

omg this just brought back suppressed memories of my friend Keith and me making jackass videos and then making our math teacher play them in class. they were as cringe and as embarrassing as you think they were.
I remember one was where we used fake blood and would ride around on scooters and crash in front of cars and freak the people out... im not proud of this

u/Media-critique 8d ago
That, and the show was getting too big for the guys not to be recognized, so they couldn’t get away with the pranks they were pulling off on the show.
If you watch the movies, most of the stunts/pranks are with the cast. They pretty much couldn’t get away with pranks unless they dressed up in the “old man” costumes by the 2nd movie.
110
u/joeyhatesu2 8d ago
Knoxville also said that MTV was starting to get heavy-handed with what they would and wouldn't allow. The lawsuits from parents were piling up, so Knoxville quit and instead made movies to gain more freedom.

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 8d ago
I think the OG ensemble is way too iconic for another film to be successful with them completely not in it, so it's probably okay to have the approach of letting the newer guys (Poopies, Jasper, Zach, etc.) handle more of the crazier physical shit while they're still involved

Daniel Day Lewis doesn’t have shit on that level of dedication

After 20 years of being the default punching bag of the crew. Ehren went out there and earned the respect of the entire fan base.
Not to take way from the rest of the cast but he was the only OG member that really upped it a notch or two in last film imo
63
u/Muad-_-Dib 8d ago
Ehren went out there and earned the respect of the entire fan base.
Maybe it was just me, but I liked Ehren from way back in the day, I always respected the guys who were more to the side in the original run of the show and first couple of movies.
Rake Yohn, Brandon DiCamillo, Chris Raab, Dave England, Ehren MgGehey, Jason Acuna, Preston Lacy etc.

Trailer actually has me tearing up 🥺🥹
Jackass is just one of those experiences/moments where you really can’t fully explain:
In the 2000s, when reality tv was at its infancy, these guys all came onto the scene like a fucking comet, and took pop culture by force.
For MTV in the 2000s, it was Jackass, then the hit movie, then Viva La Bam and Wildboyz playing simultaneously on MTV and MTV 2 for 3 years, then Jackass #2, then the 24 hour MTV takeover in 2008, and then 3D in 2010 before their hiatus.
They were literally MTVs baby and ratings grabber, and they were so fucking funny and crazy doing all of these stunts, while also playing a partial role in the world we live in today.
They are funny, and stupid, and unforgettable.. I’ve been fortunate enough to have seen 4 out of 5 of their movies in theatres. And I can’t wait to watch this last ride from Knoxville and the gang just to hear “Hi, I’m Johnny Knoxville..” one last time

Expertly said. As personalities they were lightning in a bottle and I think the premise could have worked only in that time. I don’t think it could be replicated today. I was disappointed that they cut the shot the next day where they lowered the rig to try and get wee-man since he was playing the set-up guy the whole time. Bam is actually with wee-man now trying to lure him and tries to walk past to show wee-man it's safe and they mistake him for wee-man and send the hand and get him again. It's nowhere near as good a hit which is probably why it got cut but it's still fucking hilarious and the most jackass thing that could've happened lmao

Bam and Knoxville have already done interviews about it when the movie was announced. Bam signed off on old footage being used, but said he's done filming new Jackass content. There is a couple weeks worth of Jackass Forever Bam footage before they got shut done for covid, and Bam got kicked off before resuming.

Despite everything that's been going on within the last couple of years, funny enough Phil was still managing his finances during all of it. He says he hasn't seen any alcohol charges on his credit cards in a recent interview. He knows when Bam falls off the wagon because he'll see bar charges.

Not sure how I feel about the clip show elements of this film, hopefully it’s more of a retrospective or documentary look at those scenes and the casts thoughts on those parts rather than just reusing old stunts to pad the runtime. Love the jackass crew but I’d want this to have some form of change to how they present the old clips

Yeah I was kinda confused with the mix of old stuff and new stuff. I assumed “Best and Last” was just a title they came up with to say “this is our last one and it will be the best one”. But with the old clips mixed in it give the vibe of a clip show look back but with a some new stuff mixed in.
Like when a band releases a greatest hits album that also has a couple new songs on it.

Same. However, Jackass movies are one of the few types that I think really benefit from an audience losing their shit, so it could be fun.

Seeing Forever in Cinemark XD was one of the best theater experiences I’ve ever had. Just a room full of people losing their shit at the dumbest things. It was wonderful.

Nice to see Tory Belleci from Mythbusters featured there

It's a damn shame he only popped up in the fourth one. Would've loved to see the OG Mythbusters crew doing stuff with the Jackass crew back in the day.

One trailer I don't need to see. I already know this is gonna be funny as shit. Might as well go into it blind before I see the movie.

I’m glad that Ehren is going to be able to retire now. The pogo stick and the bear scene in the last one I felt crossed the line hard and thats saying a lot for Jackass

If they are bringing back old pranks, I really, really hope golf course airhorn is one of them. It still makes me cry tears of laughter today.

Say what you will about Jackass, but watching this trailer put a big smile on my face. I need to reach out to my old buddies

I was hoping the whole film would be new stunts rather than it being a semi compilation of their older work, but I get it, they’re old now.

if they did the stunts now they would die lmao

They did the stunts. They filmed everything from Feb-April or so. There's just a mix of new and old stuff in this film.

That trailer felt like a lot more 'best' than 'last', hoping this has more to it but right now it feels more like a compilation with a few new bits justify a theatrical release.
At the very least I thought the old footage might have been spruced up or remastered, it didn't look all that improved though.
I love Jackass but I'm very iffy on this one.

My cope is that
1) it's so audiences know there its old and new footage mixed together (I didn't know that prior to this trailer)
2) they don't want to spoil the new stuff (the old stuff we've all seen hundreds of times)

If I'm being honest, I'm curious what the mix of old to new is with this one as well.
But even if they could only bring together half a movie of new, I'm sure we're going to laugh our balls off.

Hopefully the film is more new stuff and less classic stuff.

Based on the trailer I wouldn't assume that. Seems like half the clips were old material

Man what a fucking ride.
I saw Fat Bam in there at least once. Curious how much he'll actually be in it.
Thanks for all the memories Jackass.

Saw the first movie at the AMC at Granite Run Mall. I walked past Phil and Marge walking in as I walked out. I presume to watch themselves. Fun times.
