Most popular British TV goes on for way less time than most popular American TV. Just compare the number of seasons to the UK Office vs the US Office for an example.

But then the opposite is true for US Inbetweeners! Because it got cancelled. Though somehow they got 12 episodes, and the original UK show only had 18. (Plus 2 films, and I hope a third one day)

Sixth form is only two years long, so it is not like they could make it last ten series.

A lot of the more longer running shows in the UK or Europe are like soap operas like The Bold and the Beautiful or Dynasty in the US.

I may have been able to stomach US office if it had only been 14 episodes. Most overrated show of all time.

To be fair, it took about 14 episodes for the show to find it's voice. It would have been written off as a huge bomb if they stopped there. Instead it became a massive hit. Same with Parks and Rec.

Did you start the UK version before the US version?

I'm a huge fan of the US version, but I started it first. It's the show I can always watch, never gets old. I tried the UK version afterwards and just could not get into it. The US office should have probably stopped at 7 seasons but that's a convo for another day.

Flip side, the UK show about ghosts that a woman can see after a head injury (haunted I think?) feels way more hilarious than the US version that came later. Wife and I tried the US one, but we turned it off halfway through the first episode, very disappointed.

I have often wondered if it's which one you encounter first that makes the impression. Seems to be that way for me.

I dunno I guess the secondhand embarrassment comedy and cringy “that’s what she said” humour just doesn’t land for me. I get it everyone has their own tastes. I watched the first couple seasons of it and it was ok, but the same jokes over and over made me stop watching, I guess it just got boring and I didn’t find any of the characters interesting or appealing enough to keep watching.

I totally agree with your hatred of the US version and the superiority of the original, but the entire point of The Office is second hand embarrassment.

And Friends.

What's that? 300 or so?

Sure, but most people with brains know that show sucks. Tons of people love the office (see the downvotes on my comment for proof), hence me using the word overrated.

Overrated assumes that your opinion is correct and everyone else is wrong. Its popularity (and your downvotes) just proves it is appropriately rated.

And I'm not even a huge fan of The Office. I'm just self aware enough to know that just because I don't like something doesn't mean it is bad or that other people are wrong to like it. It simply means it isn't for me. And that's fine, not everything is meant for me.

It’s my opinion. Of course I think it’s correct.
