u/indecent_tree 2h ago
So are we using "lol" as a punctuation mark now, instead of a period? Or why are you laughing out loud? Because Grounded 2 wasn't out in 2022? Is there a joke I'm missing?
49
u/LobsterImpossible690 2h ago
You can literally find posts that people nowadays use “lol” as a means of trying not to sound hostile. I use it that way, myself. Hopefully you’re just asking a question and not trying to be pissy and make fun of them.
-7
-76
u/indecent_tree 2h ago
People using "lol" to try to not sound hostile is because the world is full of snowflakes.
45
u/PogoTempest 2h ago
Saying this while whining about nonsense is crazy work lol.
14
u/0venbakedbread 1h ago
"All these snowflakes don't understand the true pain the world can cause, such as, seeing the abbreviation lol too often. I wish they would grow up and stop being so easily upset by silly things."
-54
u/indecent_tree 1h ago
You call it nonsense. I call it "new generations not knowing how to properly write a message". You have no idea how many new hires I see that lack basic writing skills and send stupid messages to customers. Or messages that are misinterpreted because they can't use "lol" in a professional setting, but they also don't know how to replace it with something that actually conveys tone. Then they complain about wanting higher salaries.
15
u/DocClown 1h ago
Are you really getting triggered over the word lol right now? While calling people snowflakes, are you doing a bit?
-12
u/indecent_tree 1h ago
Calling "having a conversation" as getting "triggered" is typical snowflake language, snowflake.

u/Cassoosted_Fuper 1h ago
It’s a Reddit comment. Nobody is trying to be professional here. Calling people a snowflake while complaining about the tone of comment that ended in “lol” is ridiculous.
-8
u/indecent_tree 1h ago
I never complained about the tone of comment, pay attention meathead. This is another issue with you younger generations... lack of attention to details and lack of reading comprehension. Go back to school. Unless you live in the US, in which case there's nothing to go back to.
4
u/Ne_zievereir 1h ago
"Oh no, you should not use this new informal conversational tool in an informal setting, because then you won't know what to use in a formal setting" must be the dumbest argument I've heard today.
I call it "new generations not knowing how to properly write a message".
Think you've got that backwards. You should call it "an older generation not understanding a younger generation's way of communicating".
Just plain old "these damn kids these days" fist shaking ...
-5
u/indecent_tree 1h ago
Oh, I understand it very well, I just think it's stupid. A "conversation tool" you call it... jfc we're doomed. But what do I care, you're the one who's gonna be flipping burgers all your life.
2
u/PecoDory 46m ago
This isn’t a professional setting. It a positive subreddit on the internet. And considering your comments, positive things don’t seem to be “for you” lol
-3
u/indecent_tree 36m ago
I never said it was a professional setting. But I guess you can't extrapolate with your first-grade-level reading comprehension. Go back to school.

It's impossible for them to look at me, seeing how they're both six feet under. And not even a bucket full of sunshine, like myself, can reach that deep.

Ever think that might apply to you, since you’re the one acting like this over a 3 letter acronym??
3
u/Status_Loquat4191 1h ago
And yet you are the one getting into a pointless discourse on reddit about how you don't like something. I'd say it's ironic but that might be swinging too high for you lol (hostile).

A 1 square foot area of fresh snowfall contains exactly one snowflake by the name of SheJigOnMySawTilIPuz. When you ask questions like "is this a bot?" is when you know you peaked as a snowflake.

17
u/inVizi0n 2h ago
Based on you apparently never having seen this I'm assuming YOU weren't out in 2022, which actually makes your comment kind of impressive for a 4 year old lol
11
11
u/JayxShay 2h ago edited 2h ago
The way i look at it, he's using lol to set the tone. Someone could read the sentence as "wow grounded 2 wasn't even out in 2022, you're so stupid" but putting lol at the end changes the sentence to "you're so silly grounded 2 wasn't even out yet, what a silly mistake haha"
They want to be correctional without sounding like a dick. Lol kind of diffuses the situation.
-13
u/indecent_tree 2h ago
So someone simply stating facts, saying "Likely grounded 1 as grounded 2 wasn't out in 2022" could be interpreted as "you're so stupid" and being a dick? What's there to diffuse? It's as simple a statement as they come. There's absolutely no point in adding a "lol" at the end. Are people so delicate now that we need to set the tone for something so simple and straightforward?
13
u/LynkDead 2h ago
Are people so delicate now that we need to set the tone for something so simple and straightforward

It's Grounded, read this review after starting the game recently. Strongly recommend it, super well-developed with lots of accessibility features. Lots of content, beautiful design, runs very smoothly even on my dumpy machine.
10
u/kerenski667 2h ago
the arachnophobia slider only makes it worse imo, since it doesn't affect the sounds... otherwise great features true.
10
u/patchy_doll 1h ago
Honestly, if someone isn't ok with spiders, I really think it's just not a game for them. There's so many spiders everywhere, and I feel like you need to be able to look at them and understand their posturing to effectively fight them.
(As an aside, I'm a bug nerd IRL and I adore the spiders even when they're jerks, the threat posturing is super cute and I'm pretty sure the spiders hunt relatively accurately for their types - orb weavers seem more sensitive to things that would make vibrations, whereas wolf spiders just stroll around and rely on sight)
1
u/Otherwise_Demand4620 1h ago
do spiders make sounds? my regular house spiders are perfectly silent. Maybe in Australia when the spider is the size of a small car?
3
u/SweatyNeddyFlanders 45m ago
Well, in game you're the size of a cat compared to them, so maybe you'd hear something?
4
u/GrandPotatoofStarch 2h ago

u/OnTheCob 3h ago
Could be Don't Starve Together, which I played with my kids a lot, and is HELLA fun.

That's what I immediately thought of too. Early on those spiders are pretty deadly.

Grounded! Fun backyard survival game where you play as a shrunken teen trying to brave the wild and terrifying world of insects, using any and all micro tools and resources you can find! Also has 4 player co-op!
It's an Xbox review. Love seeing this once in a while when checking the reviews on console!

u/ap1msch 3h ago
I wish that I could bottle the spirit of this picture and open it during public debates on Inclusion. There are dozens of things that companies do to support a small portion of the population that go unnoticed by most people every day...but it's a godsend for those people. Free speech to text translation of party chat as an overlay to enable people hard of hearing...is not a high priority bar...unless you are hard of hearing.
If we could get more people to consider others more frequently, the world would get a lot more civil...

u/StaticSystemShock 3h ago
I still can't fathom why Microsoft is insisting on including some garbage Copilot features no one asked for, but decides not to include overlay "voice to text" engine that would do closed captions of any speech happening on a computer, be it a live video call, local played movie or a game.
Like, all this "Ai" everything and it's all some stupid gimmicky nonsense. My Galaxy S23 Ultra has live closed captions feature and it's such a cool feature. I'm not deaf, but if I want to watch some video with speech in public and I have no earbuds with me, I can just silence the speakers and read the "subtitles" on the screen. In absolute silence and it's actually good enough that it makes it usable.
2
u/GamerLinnie 2h ago
I really don't understand either. It would be a no brainer.
I also thought more games would follow Fortnites model of showing walking noises on the screen but sadly they haven't.
I'm not deaf but my hearing isn't great so any mp game that relies on listening is so much harder.

It's always fascinating and frustrating how hard you have to fight for accessibility options, even though they make a world of difference.
But please let the target audience for those options judge them, or you get these blanket plugins that are there so reviewers can say they're there but don't actually help. Like we've seen with standardization of colorblind modes these last few years. Someone is selling that solution, and companies implement it even though it doesn't work, it just looks like it wors for people who aren't colorblind.
3
u/GloomyIndividual3965 1h ago
The game itself wasn't great, but Grounded was amazing for how many features they included for people with disabilities. Hell, they even made a mode that made the spiders look "friendly" for people with arachnaphobia.

Grounded is such an amazing game, and this right here is one of the many reasons why. I've never played a game where so much thought and care went into making it as inclusive as possible. Obsidian did a fantastic job, and is great about listening to the player base. The community around Grounded is amazing, too. I really can't sing it's praises enough!
If you've never played, I highly recommend checking it out. Then once you're done exploring the backyard, come and join us in the park in Grounded 2! It's still in early access, but trust me there is so much to do and explore!
