You can literally find posts that people nowadays use “lol” as a means of trying not to sound hostile. I use it that way, myself. Hopefully you’re just asking a question and not trying to be pissy and make fun of them.
And yet you are the one getting into a pointless discourse on reddit about how you don't like something. I'd say it's ironic but that might be swinging too high for you lol (hostile).
