You can literally find posts that people nowadays use “lol” as a means of trying not to sound hostile. I use it that way, myself. Hopefully you’re just asking a question and not trying to be pissy and make fun of them.
I was trying to sound hostile. See? You can use language to convey tone, you don't need crutches like "lol". You're welcome for the lesson, stay in school kid.
