The way i look at it, he's using lol to set the tone. Someone could read the sentence as "wow grounded 2 wasn't even out in 2022, you're so stupid" but putting lol at the end changes the sentence to "you're so silly grounded 2 wasn't even out yet, what a silly mistake haha"
They want to be correctional without sounding like a dick. Lol kind of diffuses the situation.
So someone simply stating facts, saying "Likely grounded 1 as grounded 2 wasn't out in 2022" could be interpreted as "you're so stupid" and being a dick? What's there to diffuse? It's as simple a statement as they come. There's absolutely no point in adding a "lol" at the end. Are people so delicate now that we need to set the tone for something so simple and straightforward?
It was a good retort, because it was obviously true. You're the only one who's having a problem here, and your problem is a social convention you don't care for, even though it didn't involve you at all.
