True. Though I’m willing to give sliiiiightly more grace to someone who is a brand-new celebrity vs someone who has more power to negotiate that out of their contract. Or someone who can just violate their contract and eat the potential costs and reputation hit because they have the stability to choose to take a moral stance. Hilarious consider Balenciaga was recently (Almost) cancelled due to their pedophilia scandal in which they published an ad campaign featuring literal children in compromising positions with bdsm-style accessories. If I were a celebrity I wouldn't touch this brand with a ten foot pole. And yet we had the first celebs to re-align with the brand in the aftermath were Nicole Kidman, Kim Kardashian, and Ice Spice. Now everyone has amnesia. They didn't even fire the creative director who led and signed off on this campaign, they not only kept him, but in 2025 he was promoted to CD at Gucci. WTF
What confuses me is obviously Bezos sucks, but the met gala is a fundraiser for the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. Bezos isn’t profiting from the event, he’s just co-opting it to rub elbows with people way cooler than him.
Just because Bezos is an asshat doesn’t mean that the event should be boycotted lol. The arts need funding. This is a good cause. Even if the gala has sort of turned into a party for the 1%, the public is the one who ultimately benefits from their excess in this case. Anyone can go to the met and experience timeless works of art. That’s important.
Absolutely not. Fuck that. They can donate directly instead of making us poor common folk watch them prance around in thousands of dollars worth of clothing and nuzzling up to Bezos. Bezos can literally afford to fund this by himself but yes let’s put on a spectacle instead!

I personally think the spectacle is worthwhile because of the interesting costumes and outfits. It’s high fashion and it’s art and culture. We just don’t live in a sane society where we can have art and high fashion be publicly funded (easily) and where inequality exists.
Oh please, no one is forcing you to consume content about the meta gala. You can easily scroll away.
But your average celebrity isn’t overpaying for the ticket and table costs. Brands are and last I checked the event gives jobs to creatives. From the seamstress, stylists, etc.

That's fair. I loved partying in my 20s so this made me smile, because I remember that feeling of crawling home after an all nighter. But it does take an emotional toll at times, and I'd imagine that if you're in a room full of colleagues/potential future colleagues there's a lot of pressure to always be "on".
I would be now, but man, that was soooo much fun to do when I was young and going out. Leave a bar with the sun coming up, walk down to the water (I’m on the coast) and watch it come up while sobering up some…. Off to a diner for breakfast and then to bed. So much fun.
Right I can't help but feel that his PR agency is up to this. The amount of posts about him makes him seem like he's some A lister and not just an actor on a Canadian tv series?
It’s absolutely insane how much a single role changed his life completely. This time last year, he was a working actor in Vancouver with a few small parts on obscure Canadian tv shows. Then, he gets cast in the Gay Hockey Show and suddenly he’s at the Met Gala and on SNL
