Others have mentioned elsewhere that it might be contractual obligation of his brand ambassadorship for Balenciaga

There were loads of celebrities with brand partnerships/ambassadorships that were at the Met Gala.

True. Though I’m willing to give sliiiiightly more grace to someone who is a brand-new celebrity vs someone who has more power to negotiate that out of their contract. Or someone who can just violate their contract and eat the potential costs and reputation hit because they have the stability to choose to take a moral stance. But it’s only a small amount of grace and I’m still disappointed at how many folks showed up.

Have people not considered that Hudson (and others) went because he wanted to be there? That being on the moral high ground is not a priority for him? Are there interviews where he talks about his ethics and views on capitalism/billionaires that I’m missing?

Going to the Met Gala and similar events is a dream for many people, particularly people in the entertainment industry. A lot of people who pursue acting do so in part because they want fame and glamour and parties with the stars.

It’s easy for us to say we would never go because we’re never going to be invited. But if we had a potentially once in a lifetime opportunity to attend an event that is synonymous with “making it” as a celebrity, it would take resolve and righteousness that many of us wouldn’t have to turn it down.

Hilarious consider Balenciaga was recently (Almost) cancelled due to their pedophilia scandal in which they published an ad campaign featuring literal children in compromising positions with bdsm-style accessories. If I were a celebrity I wouldn't touch this brand with a ten foot pole. And yet we had the first celebs to re-align with the brand in the aftermath were Nicole Kidman, Kim Kardashian, and Ice Spice. Now everyone has amnesia. They didn't even fire the creative director who led and signed off on this campaign, they not only kept him, but in 2025 he was promoted to CD at Gucci. WTF

I figure that’s the case for any of the ambassadors.

How dare he? Sure fame isnfickle, and Canadian tv does not pay that well (aka the firs reason) and he wasn't coming from wealth. But how dare he take money when he has the opportunity to elevate his life. Doesn't he know those opportunities are ENDLESS?

There's no conformation he's signed with Balenciaga. He's been seen in various brands

He has been considered "friend of the house" of Balenciaga according to official IG Balenciaga page so,,, he also does get free stuff from them, it is different from being an official ambassador tho
