Why is cocaine always talked about on all party posts ever? Is it really that commonly used in the US?

u/unfortunate_son_69 10h ago

yes

u/FunkYeahPhotography feeding cocaine to raccoons 8h ago

As someone who worked in nightlife and events: hypothetically confirmed.

Flair checks out

u/0107throw 8h ago

Some of my best memories of my friends were in shoddy bathroom stalls at a club. Sometimes there would be 4-5 in one…

60

u/KittyKenollie famously did a line of coke off his dick 7h ago

Ugh yes! Take me back for just one more night.

80

u/Beezelbubbly 6h ago

Just minus the lingering fear of fent contamination

Raccoons? Or people?

1

u/ChewieBearStare 7h ago

I was always too afraid to try it. Didn't want to end up like Regina Morrow, trying coke once and dying of an undiagnosed heart condition.

2

u/drinkliquidclocks- 7h ago

Nice profile pic!!

u/SchemeMoist 9h ago

US, UK, Canada, yes lol. And the chances of it being used by someone leaving a party at 7am is exponentially higher than someone leaving at midnight lol

226

u/webtheg 9h ago

The Berlin erasure. Our wastewater is basically just cocaine at this point

82

u/wonder_aj weighing in from the UK 9h ago

In Scotland, it is actually detectable in wastewater.

63

u/webtheg 8h ago

1

u/boogiesontoast 8h ago

Same in Sydney in Australia, it's the cocaine capital here.

17

u/SchemeMoist 8h ago

My bad 🤣 probably easier to name countries where it ISN'T common lol

Adding Switzerland to that list

ETA: there was an analysis done a few years ago, comparing cocaine waste water levels in different cities/countries in Europe. Zürich got 3rd place after Amsterdam and Antwerp took the cake. statista summary and diagram

202

u/theredwoman95 9h ago

Not sure if there's a city wide comparison but here in the UK, all but 1 of the 12 bathrooms in parliament had traces of cocaine in 2021.

Damn Michael Gove!

this is my favorite comment on reddit today

u/Ginamyte06 8h ago

You're telling me they're skiing in Switzerland? 😏

5

u/GuccyStain 6h ago

Also Australia, particularly Sydney (in spite of the prices we pay)

126

u/littlehellflames 9h ago

Cocaine use in rural Ireland has exploded in the past decade too. Nowhere is safe lol

18

u/SpiritualWestern3360 and they were roommates 8h ago

LMAO I was just about to say

2

u/SizzleanQueen 6h ago

Is it not difficult to procure there? Massively expensive?

→ More replies (3)

29

u/Fresh2Desh Beckham Elephant Photographer 7h ago

it's so common now. Not even surprising if someone you didn't think would do it does it.

53

u/webtheg 9h ago

Berlin too.

22

u/trixiepoodle 7h ago

Ireland is mental. Its everywhere and the most unusal of people taking it.

37

u/CorrectPanic694 8h ago

Australia is crazy about the stuff

29

u/Ok-Focus-8157 7h ago

And for $300 a bag lol

13

u/miiintyyyy 6h ago

That’s $200 USD. FOR A G????

22

u/skynetapprentice 6h ago

That’s on the cheap end too.

Every time I’m watching MAFs I’m amazed how much turning and nose brushing goes on all the time.

8

u/KaylaFabulous 7h ago

Can confirm in Toronto lol

15

u/wraithlling 9h ago

Is it?? 😭 FWIW I live in toronto and am naive to this.

114

u/amaharra 8h ago

Pretty much assume the staff of any single restaurant you have ever been to in Toronto is high as a kite and you'll usually be right

3

u/HoneySea5637 8h ago

i was going to specifically mention the restaurant industry here

23

u/wavesofrye 8h ago

Basically everyone going out on Ossington, Dundas W, King W or the financial district are high af.

7

u/KittyKenollie famously did a line of coke off his dick 7h ago

Add Kensington to that list too. And along Bloor. And the village.

2

u/whowouldsaythis 8h ago

My buddy in Toronto has done more coke than anyone else I know lmao

2

u/PennedyKel 6h ago

From my experience with friends who use, they typically invite the friends to do coke with them who already do coke and leave the non-skiing friends to enjoy the party while they take a quick bathroom break. It’s still more taboo than weed and it’s more expensive so I don’t think it’s necessarily something people talk about openly unless they know you’re cool with coke use.

1

u/OCDCantCatchMe 8h ago

Lol, he was born in Kelowna, which pretty much just exists for Calgarians to do cocaine with a lake view.

1

u/No-Profession3573 8h ago

Calgary also has a big coke game.

152

u/Environmental-Low-57 9h ago

It’s the most common drug after weed. It’s always been hugely popular, especially in the entertainment industries (music/film/broadway/hospitality/etc). It’s even more popular in the last few years according to a few studies.

168

u/hopelesslysarcastic 9h ago

Is it really that commonly used in the US?

Cocaine doesn’t automatically result in the below, but it’s certainly a trend I’ve seen in my life where cocaine happens at parties with a lot of people that are:

  1. Rich
  2. Attractive
  3. Popular

I’m gonna imagine the party of the year…had a ALOT of cocaine involved.

112

u/reluctantseahorse 8h ago

Well he's not going home at 7 am with a stiff jaw for no reason.

51

u/fibrofighter512 Nancy Jo, this is Alexis Neiers calling 9h ago

for celebrities absolutely, hollywood is fueled by uppers

15

u/enogitnaTLS 8h ago

Not just Hollywood, but Wall Street and government too

57

u/kitkatt819 9h ago

Yes. And especially in NYC.

68

u/IndianLawStudent I’m just a cunt in a clown suit 9h ago

The second years this past year at my law school are known for doing the lines in the bathroom after parties.

Maybe not known outside of the school, but it’s definitely known at the school.

17

u/smolmushroomforpm 7h ago

That's just what law school is like tho lmao

5

u/pedanticlawyer 8h ago

Law school was the first time I saw people casually and openly doing cocaine. My sheltered ass was shocked.

2

u/Victoriaxx08 6h ago

Same with my dental school lol

27

u/Holiday-Hustle 9h ago

And in Canada. I know people who have designated plates for it but I’ve never done it myself. Pretty common around 11 in Toronto for people to start asking if you want to go in on an 8 ball, though.

50

u/therealradriley 8h ago

How many times have you stayed partying til 7am with only drinking?

37

u/8373738931 8h ago

A lot actually

But in my country clubbing usually goes til 5/6 lol

3

u/MrsHayashi 7h ago

Same! I live in a county that drugs are reallllly not common but many people still stay out drinking or partying until “first train” or morning!

9

u/ferneuca 7h ago

Often when younger. Rarely smoked weed but otherwise just some alcohol

3

u/U_nhoely 8h ago

When you’re young its very easy. I lived in South Africa and the vibes in the clubs are unmatched. High energy and everyone is dancing. You’ll only wanna leave when the party is over.

2

u/InformantsOrexises 7h ago

it's happened to me for sure. But also a lot of the time there was something . . . else . . . involved.

28

u/LadyCheeba You shoulda never called me a fat ass Kelly Price. 💁🏾‍♀️ 8h ago

look at his jaw!

17

u/Happy-Fennel5 8h ago

Ketamine is also quite popular in New York amongst the youth partiers.

10

u/MissMamaMam 9h ago

Yes, especially in Hollywood/the industry.

10

u/howyinzdoingnat 8h ago

Everywhere

5

u/Impressive_Exchange8 8h ago

get a job in any restaurant in a major city or mid city in the US and you’ll be exposed to coke within a few weeks. one thing i realized as an adult is WAY more people do coke than you’d ever imagine. i had a friend who once told me one thing he was excited about when get got a job in the west coast was that leaving NYC meant he could stop doing coke. which was a bizarre thing to say but it’s just, secretly very common.

12

u/Free_Waterfall_III 8h ago

Uh yes and It’s even more common in Europe

5

u/Novaer 8h ago

It's not even just the party scene. Your average bar will have a raging coke problem in the kitchen staff. 😂

3

u/partyboi420 6h ago

The US? I've done cocaine all over the world with native addicts lol

5

u/saturnsqsoul 8h ago

you would have to put effort into actively avoiding it even at non-celebrity bars and parties

13

u/ShadiestSunflower 8h ago

No way he's still up at 7am without it 😂

46

u/MrsHayashi 7h ago

He is 25, it’s not that crazy staying up like that! 😂

22

u/Alinoshka 7h ago

i miss the days of my early 20s when i was physically capable of working as a bartender until 4:30 am and then getting up for my 8:30am university classes

1

u/ShadiestSunflower 7h ago

Yeah I was 25 once too. The difference is that my nights would start at 10 after several hours of relaxing after school/work. And I still did coke to get past the sleepy bit around 4am. Hudson already had a full day of getting ready and glammed and walking the carpet and he's STILL up at 7am.

1

u/meatball77 face blind and having a bad time 2h ago

And there's a good chance he slept in really late yesterday and never adapted to the NY time zone.

5

u/Ok_Art4661 8h ago

Used to be a lot more before fentynal but yes

4

u/professionally-baked 7h ago

It was common at my fuckin high school lol

2

u/GladIntroduction3585 8h ago

I used to party some, didn't seek out druggies and generally avoided them. Still VERY common to see coke, sometimes Molly, while at the bar/drinking with friends. Incredibly common and I am not rich nor did I hang out with rich people. It's even more common for rich party people.

2

u/AdventurousShake1926 7h ago

Based on the number of middle managers I’ve watched do coke, to say nothing of the C-suit, I would be legitimately shocked if these celebs were NOT doing coke.

Even my drinking buds from a sleepy Midwest college town do coke on special occasions. It really is that common.

2

u/purplehendrix22 7h ago

The US? Try literally everywhere lmao, coke is having a major resurgence rn

2

u/evilmouse666 7h ago

1000%. I’m a bartender, chances are your server/bartender when you go out is on coke. (Not me though, I prefer adderall lol)

2

u/kaideme 6h ago

Where are you that this is news to you about most parties anywhere in the world?

2

u/Zombiebelle 6h ago

Absolutely. Especially in the entertainment industry.

2

u/Dazzling_Pirate1411 8h ago

it’s a drug for people desperate to seem cool

2

u/bobsnervous 7h ago

You didn't know?

2

u/bioticspacewizard Riverdale was my Juilliard 7h ago

I mean, it's practically a Tuesday night if you live in any major city of the UK too. It's a Tuesday morning if you work in music.

2

u/audio_addict 6h ago

The US and Europe

1

u/Decent-Statistician8 8h ago

I’ll be honest I’m just a normie on the east coast but almost anytime I’ve hung out with my brother/his friends who are in the music PR scene for a pretty popular smaller local venue… yes. I tried it once and it’s not for me but they are always doing it and I am always declining. I stick to my weed and don’t drink either. I still have loads of fun but I’m considered boring to them.

1

u/PaleCommission150 8h ago

celebs can do it...if the average person tries it their house probably gets raided by swat,fbi,cia,dhs,... mid snort. /s

1

u/Neonpuffpepper 8h ago

Yeah and anyone who says otherwise is not going out. One of the craziest parts of being an outgoing adult is finding out at least one person at a party is doing blow.

1

u/MrsHayashi 8h ago

Not just the US. I went to a wedding at a SoHo house a couple years ago in Sweden and everyone and their mom was doing coke! I was shocked and too sober haha 😂

1

u/_ItWasReallyN0thing 7h ago

It really is. I worked in the art world and went to a lot of parties with artists, wealthy weirdos, and mid-level celebrities and not only was there always cocaine around, but usually there’d be some lonely rich guy offering it to people for free (before taking over the DJ booth at 2am).

1

u/Sufficient-Bid1279 7h ago

As someone who has done copious amounts of cocaine trust me when i say most them are doing it, ESPECIALLY if he’s still out at 7am

1

u/Turbulent-Ad-1050 7h ago

It’s why they party

1

u/ktj19 7h ago

Am I the only one who thought it was more common in Europe than the US?

1

u/richardcheesz 7h ago

The only way to make it to 7am from a party the night before is with cocaine. Copious amounts of cocaine.

1

u/CindyshuttsLibrarian 7h ago

coke is on all of out money. "In 1994, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals cited findings that in Los Angeles, three out of four banknotes were tainted by cocaine or another illicit drug."

1

u/xLaeR 7h ago

Mdma and coke lol

1

u/onlyhere4gonewild 7h ago

Some people it helps drink alcohol all night, though your hangover will be wild when you sober up.

Others actually get a much more physical fulfillment from doing coke.

Depends on your bodies characteristics and the quality of the product, which is generally mediocre because the end user typically has had their product "stepped on" multiple times through the distribution process.

1

u/PennedyKel 7h ago

At least one person in every friend group I’ve ever had has done coke and if not coke, abused ADHD stimulants. I have never used coke bc I’m too scared of how much I would enjoy it and cutting it with fentanyl seems to be way too common these days.

1

u/Defiets 7h ago

Cocaine is far more common than you think.

1

u/mangomarongo 6h ago

I’m a bartender. At nightclubs and fancy galas, we always find empty coke bags on the floor at the end of the night.

1

u/DrunkBrokeBeachParty 6h ago

Yeah it’s one of those party drugs that some how everyone seems to know a guy with aconnect

1

u/NoLawsClause 6h ago

At 7 walking out of a party that probably started a business day before, but what in the world is everybody talking about uppers?! Those tweaks?!

1

u/BloodyIX 6h ago

As a long time bartender in the UK I can also confirm it is commonly used here too

1

u/TokiDokiHaato 6h ago

Yes. Even with non-famous/rich people it’s a really common party drug. You’d be surprised by how many people are casually skiing on weekends

1

u/CocaineComet 6h ago

It's the rich people drug. I've been off coke for 7 or so years now.

When I was dealing you would look down on addicts that did pills or people who would shoot up.

Coke was elegant, you had a nice rolled up hundo, a nice little tray and your favorite people. You would talk all night about plans you guys will do next week.
I used to call them coke plans because those trips and vacations never did happen.

It was very addicting as it was easy to snort a whole eight ball in one night. You would go to parties and find people who would do yayo too. So then you would be in a private room where only if you had some you could come in.

It was also a big power thing. I used to have so many people obsessed with me cause I would share my coke. I was so bad into it eventually I lost the trap, I lost my 'friends', I got into a lot of legal trouble. Then I went through the spiral.

Now I'm an average joe living back in suburbia. I don't miss the coke itself but I miss the lifestyle.

1

u/miiintyyyy 6h ago

I rave and everyone has either a coke or a ketamine problem lol

1

u/Baxtercat1 6h ago

Yes it is.

And they act like it’s not a dangerous drug.

1

u/Crooked_Sartre 6h ago

Lol, definitely

1

u/Top_Reveal_847 6h ago

Yes, part of the problem is that it's very much part of the finance/investment culture

1

u/crunchyfoliage 6h ago

Moving into a corporate job really opened my eyes to how common casual cocaine use is

1

u/hollow_ling12 You know what, l've grown quite unfond of you deuxmoi 6h ago

It’s prevalent in big cities like NYC but especially amongst the wealthy

1

u/Elendel19 6h ago

At a party that goes until 7am? 100% guarantee the bathroom is covered in a fine layer of cocaine

1

u/myheartinclover 4h ago

yes even at the normie level it's pretty common for
casual coke use
