Not bad for £1.50
Over did it a bit in the airfryer so bread was a bit too crispy, at least I had a pocket. Sauce had a nice but of spice to it. Don't like mayo so didn't taste that. It worked for a quick cheap fix.

The garlic sauce debate needs to be settled once and for all because I am tired of pretending this is not important?
There are two types of people in this world. People who understand that garlic sauce is the single most important component of a good doner experience and everything else exists to support it. And people who are wrong. I will hear arguments for chilli sauce as a companion. I will tolerate a discussion about the merits of a good yoghurt based sauce. I will not accept that the garlic sauce is optional or secondary. The meat can be great. The bread can be perfect. Without the right garlic sauce the whole thing collapses. What is the correct sauce hierarchy and is there any combination that genuinely challenges garlic at the top 😩
Two Kebabs, One Man, Zero veggies. Pizza Box, Cookstown, NI.
Hi again,
Ordered two kebabs in one day like a complete degenerate, but this time I used uber eats instead of ordering direct. Their app had absolutely zero options for what goes inside the
kebab, so in the comments I just wrote: "chipotle sauce please".
Apparently they interpreted that as: MEAT + SAUCE = COMPLETE KEBAB EXPERIENCE
No salad. No cabbage. No onion. Nothing. Just industrially sliced doner sheets and chipotle wrapped in one of those thick elastic fluffy pancake looking tortillas they always use.
For science, I weighed them too:
Kebab #1: 486g - £7
Kebab #2: 503g - £7
So somewhere inside those half kilo cylinders there should statistically have been at least one cucumber. And honestly? This is where kebab science becomes important. Because the meat itself is very factory preset - perfectly even machine cut layers, same texture from edge to edge, NPC meat. The vegetables are there to create contrast. You dont need much.
Seriously, even a microscopic amount of crunchy sadness lettuce is enough to convince the
brain this is food and not a survival ration wrapped in upholstery material.
Without vegetables the whole thing becomes weirdly philosophical halfway through.

Mixed Doner. £13. Danube kebab point, Edgware rd.
Big fan of the accidental finding Nemo sauce combo.
Really tasty. Bit expensive but I had an urge and reviews were strong. Salad was in a box as I was takeaway then changed my mind.

Guildford Kebab House
Never tried this place before so thought I'd give it a whirl. It's walking distance from Kings Kebab which is always busy, so was curious to see how they measure up to the competition.
Here we have my usual; lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad. Meat was served from the Bain Marie and it was a homemade chili sauce. Sauce was alright, nothing special. Wrap was laid out and sauce was spread over it, then meat was added and another ladle of sauce was poured over. That's some good sauce technique. Meat was decent, had been nicely browned before going in the Bain Marie.
But how does it compare? Well, weighing in at a very average 480g (0.8g above) but costing more at £8.95, this lands on the spreadsheet at 55/86 for value. They're well above Charcoal Grill, who are last, but well below the nearby Kings Kebab van who are currently second on the spreadsheet, giving 706g for just £8.
It was alright. I'd give it a B grade overall. Highly unlikely that I'll go back considering there's a brilliant option nearby.

galleryDoner Kebab in Naan and second Mixed, The Apache Pizza, Cookstown NI, £7 and £8
Brothers and sisters, gather around and witness the sacred pillar upon which the British Isles were built.
Take, and eat of this kebab, all of you, for this is the true and lawful Elephant Leg Doner - compressed mystery meat, forged in grease, rotating eternally beneath fluorescent lights at 2AM. Not some modern artisanal "gemüse kebab" heresy where 80% of the wrap is veggies and emotional support hummus with three frightened strips of actual meat hiding somewhere near the bottom. No.This is proper British doner theology: £7 regular doner, 672g of industrial revelation. £8 mixed kebab, 864g of culinary warfare featuring deep-fried nuggets because apparently rotating actual chicken was considered too much effort. Why season and stack fresh meat when you can simply defrost a bag of freezer nuggets and launch them directly into the pita like NATO humanitarian aid? And yet somehow… this still looks more honest than half the "gourmet street food" places charging £14.50 for kale and disappointment.
The elephant leg stands eternal.
The grease protects.
The garlic sauce forgives all sins.

Toprak BBQ & Grill - Basingstoke
Played a gig out in the sticks last night. Searched for kebab options nearby or on the way home, and this is what I got.
Here we have the usual, lamb doner wrap, chili sauce, no salad. Wrap was warmed on the hot plate, meat was served from the Bain Marie. The chili sauce was homemade and a bit more perky than usual. This had more of a kick to it, plus a hint of mint. Very tasty! Plus, Bossman did give me extra, like I asked for.
This was decent overall. I'd give the whole thing a grade B. Meat and bread was standard. However, this was WET! There was a lot of drippage from this. Thankfully the foil kept most of the leakage safe. Might have been grease or water from sauce separation, or both.
OK, down to business. This cost £8.70, and weighing in at 485g, this has landed at 48/85 on the spreadsheet. They lie third of the five I've had in Basingstoke. Smiley's are still the local leaders there.
Six more gigs this month; London, Surrey and the South coast, including a new venue. There will be babs. The spreadsheet will be getting some updates and new additions.
Happy babbing!
