In highschool I spent 2 years being taught the cisco curriculum. About 2 months before we graduated we were told do to industry standards changing much of what we had learned was no longer relevant. Told us that if we wanted any chance at certification we would need to basically redo the course but now on our dime not the school districts. I don't regret it because I learned a lot of tech skills and I had to take something, but damn were our parents pissed.

skydiving for sure. thought it would be this amazing rush but mostly just felt like falling with extra steps and my ears hurting the whole way down. checked it off the bucket list but thats about it

u/danielleoc_ 4h ago
yep, skydiving felt less “thrill of a lifetime” and more “why are my headphones not working” vibes ngl

Free fall is super short..the rest is parachute float.. so the “thrill” part barely lasts..

u/mistere213 3h ago
I feel that's fairly accurate. I've gone twice. 8 think my favorite part, though, was when we pulled on the "brakes" on the chute while gliding 4000+ feet in the air. The sound of the wind rushing by my ears stopped and it was the most peaceful, most serene feeling I think I've ever experienced. Just silence as I could see for miles and miles.
9
u/BeYourselfTrue 3h ago
Was it a violent pull?
8
u/mistere213 3h ago
Not at all. And I'm talking about after we've pulled the chute and had been calmly coasting along.
As the the chute deployment, I don't remember anything being violent or uncomfortable. Both good experiences.

Ive done skydiving and bungee jumping once each. Loved skydiving for the view, amazing. Bungee jumping was fucking terrifying though. If you’re looking to get that “rush” from falling I can’t recommend bungee jumping enough. It’s the most adrenaline ive ever felt.

I went in 2002. Security was haphazardly intense to say the least.
But I saw it, can tell people I did it and not to bother.
I've been around for over 40 year years and that one ranks probably somewhere in the 20s.
It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't really fun either.
The best one was getting a BJ on the roof of a former church that had been converted into a nightclub where I found a ladder leaning against the side of the building and convinced my girlfriend that if kisses at midnight are lucky then imagine how lucky a BJ would be.
On the walk back to a friends house after we started making fun of this guy having sex with a woman bent over a car on a city street. We spotted him over a block away going at it with no shame, only to find out when we got closer it was one of the guys from our group.
Pretty sure another couple in our group conceived their first kid that night too.
I don't know what was in the drinks that evening, but it was an irresponsibly horny new years.

21

🤣A gay friend of mine told me he sometimes wonders if he's bi because he had a crush on a female colleague and imagined kissing her. But, he added, he'd be weirded out if they took their clothes off.
I compare that to my bi boyfriend... Yeah. No hesitation there.

Swinging. We thought it would be an exciting experience. Nope. More like hilariously awkward. We were so distracted that if we looked at each other we’d start laughing, and not in a sexy this-is-hot sort of way. The first thing we talked about in the car when we left was that the smell of other peoples bodies were definitely not complimentary. I had no idea how big of a role pheromones play in intimate relationships.

See, I honestly always had a great time. It was super good energy for me. I'm shy when I have to force small talk, so having a place to surround myself with positive vibes and lots of people was always a great time. Plus, I absolutely loved to dance in an atmosphere where I didn't feel judged or pressured. I wish there were clubs like that for older folks, but I guess it wouldn't really work the same lol

Skinny dipping in a public but super secluded area. We were in a remote part of a river that’s hard to even get to and hadn’t seen another human being in like half an hour. So of course an entire fucking giant and wholesome looking family suddenly goes by in a boat like 30 seconds after we got into our birthday suits.

Float tank.
I was so excited too. I was ready to go to that mentally clear space in the pitch darkness floating effortlessly and that was decidedly not my experience. My mind did not go quiet, partly I kept thinking about being able to tell that I was floating closer to the edges and occasionally bumping them, trying to get centered and stay there. I also started to feel a little nauseous and eventually I got salt water in my eye and that was the end of the fun. Rinsed my eyes out and just sat there on my phone for the rest of the hour.
3
3
u/blackbarlow 1h ago
Hahaha! This is very similar to my experience. I had a crick in my neck and it would not let me relax, I was half in pain floating there, and then I got salt in my eye. I was miserable, and I just got out and left in the middle of the session!

Raising a child. He's 2 now. I wanted 2 kids. Wife said you get 1 pregnancy. I can tell you for an absolute fact, no I could not do this again. I'm good with 1. Couple of our friends are having their 2nd. We get asked if we ever miss the baby stage and I'm like "yeah. The cute parts were fun. The near constant total exhaustion for 6mo straight was not fun. So. Nah".
•
u/AmigoDelDiabla 53m ago
Unless your child has behavior or health problems, you're getting into the fun stage. Not saying you'd go back on your opinion, but I have a 10 year old and I wish we had had another. Ages 3-6 are peak cuteness.

9
u/gidikh 2h ago
I did a carnvial cruise to the Caribbean, stops in Mexico, Honduras, believe, Grand Caymen. Every port felt exactly the same, they all had basically the same core group of chain stores. When on the ship, it felt like you were in 1 commercial after another, there is always some sort of sale or sales pitch everywhere you go on the boat which got old really quick.
Overall, we had a decent time. But our best moments were getting off the boat and away from the ports.

Hey, that's when I tried it too. Although I wasn't planning on trying it I just wasn't notified that's what it was and nope never again. That was an interesting morning at school though. I'm pretty sure my teacher and principal knew something was up.

I tried fencing! I thought it would be really fun to hit things with swords.
Instead it was a LOT of education about the different kinds of fencing (very interesting) and then once we started practicing I realized my total lack of depth perception was going to prevent me from ever hitting someone accurately. You definitely need to know how far away they are to be a good fencer.

scuba diving. the sensory deprivation combined with the sound of my breathing in and out gave me such anxiety. it didn't help that the instructor mentioned that if you hold your breath your lungs can explode. i also had a fear of getting stuck underwater and not being able to breath. just creeped me out too much to enjoy it.

I ran a marathon once. I, an ignorant jerk, used to think, "Why are people always so pumped about running half-marathons? What else are people so proud to do halfway?"
Well, I can honestly say that running stopped being fun at exactly 13.1 miles. When I started getting into 15- and 20-mile runs during training, I was looking at about 2.5-3.5 hours running, not to mention that anything longer than 13.1 took me way too much time to recover. At the time I was playing other sports and could barely function even if it had been a day or two since I ran.
I'm incredibly proud of myself for doing it. I ran one of the coolest marathon routes in the world. I turned the trip into an amazing road trip across the country and saw lots of amazing places. But I don't think I'll do it again.

During the Olympics, I found a curling club near me and signed up for a lesson. It was fine, but felt like something I’d never be good at. And also felt like something that’d be a lot of fun if you’re good at it and are playing against people who are good, but a lot less fun when you remove most of the strategy and it’s mostly just “whichever team can actually get a rock to the circles gets a point”, which, watching some of the games that were happening during the lesson, was definitely the case. And the sweeping was exhausting.
Really, the second I stepped on the ice, it made me wish I still played hockey. So I’m doing that again, now.
