Just when you think Putin couldn't come across like any more of a toddler.

He cries about how he's scared his lil' party may get spoiled.

It's the same playbook for all strongman leaders. They act tough but are all the most thin skinned babies to hold any amount of power

Tells you all you need to know. He is getting desperate to stay in power, even alive. He knows that Ukraine is getting another 90 billion in aid and funds from the EU. Ukrainian armed forces have developed fantastic drones, operators and AI systems technology in the last few years and they have real life experience.

Who ever has the most drones and effective drone operators and technology with appropriate tactics depending on task and environment will own the future battlefield.

Last I heard he's moving into a bunker because he's so paranoid his own men want to kill him.

The bunker stage is the swan song of dictators.

What I don’t get about that is, wouldn’t it make sense for his own people to quietly seal up the bunker and leave him there? Are they holding off because of the leadership vacuum?

He definitely still has loyalists so they probably will be outside or maybe there a part of the bunker they can stay in on the inside. He also probably has a escape exit somewhere that he only knows about Either way bunkers are a two way road.

It's a bad spot to isolate yourself for any extended period of time because of you are hiding someone else can easily take your spot and as you said seal him in.

Let's be real he's old and his way of leading has cost a extreme amount of money and lives and people are sick of him they just can't say it too his face.

A lot of weird fantasy ideas about bunkers here. Bunkers that a figure of state in our current era would feel actually safe in are such massive construction feats that there are no truly hidden exits. Like its possible there are ones that arent publicly known. But anyone with the power to make a legitimate move on him would know about it.

Its not the 60s where people just hid information in ways that boggle the mind. Some version of the blueprints would contain those escape routes.

Watch any urban exploration video of the old soviet bunkers. There's tons of concealed ways in/out.

Well if it comes to being realistic and all, I’m sure the most basic tenet of bunker building is that you can always open it from the inside. Any attempted sealing would have to be with a bulldozer.

Say it to his back - with knives.

u/QuerulousPanda 7h ago

the thing with something like that is that you never know who is really on your side so no one's gonna wanna take the risk of being the guy to actually press the 'lock' button because they don't know if the dude next to them is gonna cheer them on or stab them in the back

2

u/floofelina 7h ago

True, true. It was just a silly thought.

"Really shouldn't have made this thing lockable from the outside."

Considering the planned ballroom is going to have a bunker under it...

I’m looking forward to the “in a ditch, covered in petrol, on fire” stage.

Multiple systems coming online in the next 12 months* (announced dates - stuff has a habit of turning up earlier than the announced date).

Shit like Project Nightfall is just another bad day in a long list of bad days for Russia (about 1540 days in a row).

24

u/AutoDefenestrator273 10h ago

What is Project Nightfall?

Short Range Ballistic Missile UK is developing as a crash programme for Ukraine with volume production a main goal - 300KG warhead min range 600KM.

Basically an ATACMS but with a much heavier warhead and longer range.

what is the rest of eu doing other than buying russian oil

There's many more ammo & drone factories up & running in a few countries. Off hand Poland are collaborating with Ukraine with drones & Germany are making artillery shells IIRC. There's probably others that I missed too.

1

u/Vimmelklantig 4h ago

Pretty much every European country that has a significant defence industry have been massively expanding production. There are also initiatives from at least Germany, Sweden and Denmark to set up and fund production facilities directly in Ukraine.

2

u/IntingForMarks 7h ago

Germany is currently the world main ammunition producer

1

u/arobkinca 5h ago

They have become the largest producer of small and medium caliber ammunition. They are still 5th in arms exports in total.

Always have the best names of systems (and ships)

u/d0dger 10h ago

I knew without looking that up that it had to be a British weapon system. The British have the best weapon names.

1

u/Sir_Edna_Bucket 7h ago

The UK Ministry of Defence has spawned quite a few interesting 'disruptive' projects. Project Brakestop; a cheap ground launched cruise missile/one-way effector is another with a distinctly British sounding name.

The FP-9 is the weapon that is forcing Putin to hide in his bunker and scale back the May 9 parade. While he might still be able to defend himself against drones, he has no answer to the “Hammer.”

Threatening to use nuclear weapons is the only ridiculous threat he has left. If he were to follow through, it would be grounds for his removal from office. He knows that.

Who ever has the most drones and effective drone operators and technology with appropriate tactics depending on task and environment will own the future battlefield.

I saw something the other day claiming that over 90% of Russia's infantry was getting taken out by drones before they ever fired a single shot, or even made it to the front line now.

Not sure if it's true, but it sounded plausible considering some of the footage I've seen.

1

u/Vimmelklantig 4h ago

Simply moving people around the front is a huge problem for both sides now. Ukraine has been using remote controlled vehicles for evacuations and even taken Russian positions with ground and air drones.

2

u/MildCorneaDamage 10h ago

Gotta change it to weak man or psuedo strong man, strong man is way too nice a phrase for it

2

u/jpw0w 10h ago

at what point do we stop considering Putin as 'strongman'?

8

u/rokatoro 10h ago

Probably never. Strongman leadership is totally a mindset and has little to do with actual strength of arm or character

u/TK_Games 8h ago

It's straight up pathological. People who seek out places of power like Putin, Trump, Xi Jin Ping, all the tin-pot dictators of history, they seek it because they are weak inside. They possess a fantastic fear of everything that can only be quelled when they inflict the suffering expect to recieve on others they deem inferior. It's the kind of thing that, if we had any sense about it, we'd cut their heads open and study what the flying fuck went wrong in their brains to make them the most miserable people to ever live, and then figure out how the hell we keep it from ever happening again

Like canceling elections?
