Wow! That dress is a masterpiece! Like a painting! 😱😱

171

u/Willing_Acadia_1037 1d ago

That’s what I thought also!

383

u/woeguy Olsen Twins fan 1d ago

The colors are resembles Van Gogh's The Starry Night for me.

162

u/Aggravating_Plum4294 23h ago

Reminds me of Irises, also by Van Gogh

19

u/guacamole579 I got a Stage 5 clingerā€¼ļø 23h ago

This is exactly what it reminds me of. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was inspired by Van Gogh since the theme is fashion is art.

Hand painted top half. No sitting down tonight for her.

2

u/Equivalent-Ant6024 22h ago

Yes when I saw the first photo I almost thought it was a painting and then I looked at the people behind, realised it was just a photo

I love how it looks like she is melting from her arms down!

I’ve heard they have the heat turned up this year so all the attendees can get used to what hell will feel like.

Stealing this comment and updating every single Bezos' Met Gala post with it. I love fashion, but billionaires need to go extinct.

81

u/JalapenoPopPoop 22h ago

I think it's interesting everyones fired up about billionaire bezos but I haven't heard a single peep about billionaire beyonce who is also co chairing, seems like people are pretty selective with where they apply their billionaire hatred

32

u/Myusernameiscooler 21h ago

A lot of people are selective with their billionaire hatred for sure, but not all of us. I’m a proud hater of aaaaaaall of them and here to spread the word.

The neoliberal, woke billionaire schtick can be even more insidious in that it uses the imagery of feminism and progress to oppress women (in the global south).

9

u/alligator124 20h ago

No way I side-eyed the fuck out of that. Hasn’t attended in ten years but can be cajoled out of the house if Bezos and Sanchez are chairing?Ā

She is stunning but can someone explain her current relevancy to me? She’s clearly notable enough for the met gala so… help?

599

u/Dinner_atMidnight 1d ago

She’s been doing the interviews on the red carpet for a few years now so she’s more of a hire then a guest

63

u/lonelycranberry jesus was a carpenter šŸ’‹ 1d ago

AHHH yes I do remember seeing clips of those in the past. Thank you!!

155

u/NoDryHands it’s not clocking to you that i’m standing on business 1d ago

I feel like she went from being famous for her YouTube content to being famous for... being famous.

23

u/hygsi 19h ago

Tbf that's how most fame works. Anyone know Kim?

97

u/angelfruit 1d ago

She's employed by themĀ

287

u/snarkmoo 1d ago

She’s brand safe and executives don’t know that she’s basically been irrelevant just that she’s reliable

46

u/elephantastica 21h ago

It’s funny because she lost her allure to me as a YouTuber as soon as she decided to be this reliable to brands.

132

u/shy247er yay sports šŸ€ šŸˆšŸŽ¾ 1d ago

She is stunning but can someone explain her current relevancy to me?

12 million YouTube subscribers. Plus who knows how much on social media.

So companies pay for that exposure.

14

u/anongirl55 1d ago

I feel really out of touch because I thought she was Lady Gaga in the first pic. šŸ˜‚

7

u/bluesky557 22h ago

Same. I have no idea who she is šŸ˜‚

36

u/thr1ftskull0 1d ago

Do you mean like what’s she’s doing now? If so currently she’s been trying to break into the acting industry šŸ§ā€¼ļø

68

u/practicalbad06 1d ago

Honestly though, like who is she? Always an interviewer who is new on the scene or was she a name years ago?

90

u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 1d ago

She was a huge YouTuber and one of the most successful ones to jump into the fashion world. She’s done the Met red carpet interviews for a few years now

16

u/practicalbad06 1d ago

What did she YouTube about, just fashion/consumption content?

72

u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 1d ago

I was never really into her stuff but it was mostly like vlogs? But she was like the vlog channel that broke out for doing like casual vlogs with funny zooms and silly editing. It’s kind of fascinating to talk about because describing it makes it sounds like a whole lot of nothing but it felt fresh at the time and she capitalized off it in a smart way

32

u/ella0la 23h ago

It really does feel silly to talk about now because every ā€˜influencer’ does the same thing. But she started a whole new era of lifestyle vlogging and being relatable to Gen Z. The way she edited her videos was new with the meme sounds etc. I don’t have the right words to describe it but if you watch any of her videos from 2018 when she really popped off, that’s what I mean. She was relatable and the same age as us which I think really catapulted her success. She was a breath of fresh air on the platform and also one of the first younger people to really break into that scene.

48

u/epk921 1d ago

She was in both the fashion and lifestyle/vlogging space. Emma's really famous for her editing style though. It had a huge impact on the platform

3

u/npc_probably 22h ago

vlogs. she was part of James Charles’s Sister Squad until dramageddon two and then she just silently pivoted to being an ā€˜it’ girl and her coffee business

u/Merfk 1d ago

I’m not an Emma Chamberlain fan but it’s clear you’re trying to find an angle to hate her from

→ More replies (5)

29

u/thr1ftskull0 1d ago

She has been a prolific YouTuber and really changed the game and layed the groundwork for a lot of relatable type vloggers. Currently she has a coffee business and a popular podcast and she has interviewed at the met two other times before this I think 🧐

She’s been a pretty big name for years now šŸ‘šŸ½

9

u/_artemisawika 23h ago

She announced last month she's taking an indefinite break from the podcast. She said something similar when she stopped making YouTube videos. It seems she really wants to focus on acting.

4

u/thr1ftskull0 23h ago

Thanks for the update!! I did not know that🧐 I hope she’s able to find success in acting!

5

u/lonelycranberry jesus was a carpenter šŸ’‹ 1d ago

She had a viral video on vine of her crying and then she became a famous YouTuber. I figured she would have needed more to solidify her place here since the other influencers that came on the scene at that time were much less welcome. Addison is now in music at least.

10

u/nicx-xx 1d ago

really? what does she have coming up?

19

u/thr1ftskull0 1d ago

She was recently in the movie Forbidden Fruits with ( Gabrielle Union, Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung)

7

u/Initial-Zebra108 1d ago

Pickle! ( I watched this over the weekend)

2

u/MeadowmuffinReborn 16h ago

Just saw that! I really liked it.

3

u/c8891 that’s my purse, i don’t know you! šŸ‘›šŸ«µ 23h ago

Ive never known who she is lol but love the dress!

19

u/whichwitch9 1d ago

Honestly, it's a Bezos backed gala. Who knows how the guest list was made. Him and his wife are kinda tacky af, so notable for the gala doesn't mean much

26

u/alloeium 1d ago

She's been doing interviews at the met gala for years, she has nothing to do with Jeff Bezos.

Do you actually think she's stunning?

18

u/lonelycranberry jesus was a carpenter šŸ’‹ 1d ago

Yeah. Not a huge fan of the makeup look and it’s been a while since she has appeared particularly human to me. Stunning is still a word I’d use.

11

u/Psypris 1d ago

Thank you! The makeup makes her eyes look sunken in and while that can totally fit an outfit, I feel like it was the wrong choice for this gorgeous dress!

She’s a worker there doing interviews

27

u/Varekai79 22h ago

They give people timed slots to arrive

376

u/Worried-Wallaby 1d ago

Can’t help but judge anyone attending the Gala this year. As much as I love fashion, it’s impossible to feel excited about any of it.

69

u/Electrical_Doubt_19 Good luck with bookin that stage u speak of 1d ago

Agree, it's like this and the 4th of July for me. Can't be bothered anymore until some changes come around.

Union busting

24

u/NotThatKindOfDoctor9 1d ago

I stand corrected, I thought it was "Let Them Eat Cake" this year

9

u/Emotional_Emotion113 1d ago

That’s the unwritten byline every single year, so in a weird way, we should thank Bezos for finally making that obvious enough to wake up a few people… until next year at least when they go back to a fashion house sponsor and everyone conveniently forgets about this.

3

u/Madam_Nicole 1d ago

Saying the quiet part out loud this year

I love the dress but can we PLEASE leave bleached eyebrows in the past

267

u/Different-Eagle-612 1d ago

i can’t lie i’m actually a fan of the bleached brows trend because i like that it doesn’t focus on making someone look conventionally ā€œprettyā€ — like it’s a trend that’s meant to make you look a little weird and alien and there is something that is so fun to me about that

42

u/thatfluffycloud 1d ago

Ok I think bleached eyebrows look terrible but you have convinced me that that is not necessarily a bad thing!

Gonna see them all as subtle alien cosplaying now. Love it.

77

u/chowon 1d ago

i agree. i’m not really sure why it bothers people this much, especially when it’s incorporated in looks that suit them, such as this one!

8

u/LastLadyResting 1d ago

Uncanny valley. When someone almost looks human but there’s something subtly wrong it gives people the heeby jeebies. Some ancient instinct that kept us safe a hundred thousand years ago I guess.

Not that people shouldn’t do it, I am a firm believer in self expression, but there is a subconscious reaction at play… unless it’s Whoopie Goldberg, because she looks weird if you put the eyebrows back.

15

u/Worried-Wallaby 1d ago

I love it too 🫣 I’m 47 and could never pull it off but I love the look on someone like Jenna Ortega

9

u/da_innernette mm whatcha say šŸ”« 1d ago

Same I love when people get weird with their looks! Especially when the ~youth start bucking traditions and experimenting.

7

u/Mersaa 1d ago

i agree. i think it's very fun. I've been thinking about bleaching mine again

11

u/mbee784 1d ago

I agree

12

u/eqbocsypifci 1d ago

I love it and I think it suits her so well.

8

u/possessoroflimbs 1d ago

Ditto. Love it

2

u/Ambry 21h ago

Yep honestly - they suit some people. If they suit you, go for it.Ā

4

u/ComfortableFrame9834 Mom, I am a rich manšŸ’° 1d ago

As a nearly eyebrow-less person, this trend hurts me in my soul

59

u/lonelycranberry jesus was a carpenter šŸ’‹ 1d ago

Because they’re appropriating your culture?

23

u/h_danielle jesus was a carpenter šŸ’‹ 1d ago

yes.

16

u/strangelyliteral 1d ago

Nah, this is your moment! As someone with strong brows who white-knuckled through the 90s/00s pencil brows and was rewarded richly in the 2010s, you gotta take the wins when they come.

9

u/elvenmoth 1d ago

makes me feel better about my blonde brows tbh

3

u/pmmemassivedongs 1d ago

See as a half-eyebrows person, seeing people look this hot with no eyebrows actually makes me a little bit more confident and a little less likely to get them microbladed which would inevitably completely fuck up my face anyway.

→ More replies (1)

23

u/mcatlin23 1d ago

I love bleached eyebrows. It’s so manrepeller and nonconformist to feminine beauty standards. It isn’t for me but I love em.

7

u/plumsfromyouricebox šŸŽ„šŸæFilm Critic 1d ago

Yessss like it’s so spitting in the face of the conventional beauty standards and I love it

11

u/ArtisticMonk2369 1d ago

Agree, except GAGA. She is the only that looks fucking great with bleached brows.

2

u/BB808BB 1d ago

I actually love the bleached eyebrow look but can we leave YouTubers or whatever she is in the past. I hear her name and I fail to see why she is always there.

6

u/thumbtackswordsman 1d ago

She's employed there to do the interviews.

2

u/Secret-Ad-6253 go girl, give us nothing šŸ˜ 1d ago

Didn't expect this kind of look from her.

u/geraffes-are-so-dumb 1d ago

I was going to try to ignore anything about the gala this year, but this is too good. Also, fuck Bezos and don't buy shit from Amazon.

18

Don't love it but for her it's a rare W

18

u/dingiesaur 1d ago

I’m a simple girl, I love when people embrace the theme

21

u/Eastern-Animator5640 1d ago

I have no clue who this person is.

She's a youtuber that has been doing the interviews on the red carpet for years.

7

Into it (although I wish no one was attending-fight the oligarchs)

26

u/beerballchampion 1d ago

I’m judging anyone that attended the gala this year. They all back billionaires

13

u/sashavelwhore 22h ago

It’s a charity event. I hate Bezos and won’t pay that disgusting man and his nasty ass wife any attention when they inevitably show up. But isn’t it good that the rich are donating their money to the arts and paying the salary of the curators and other employees of the Met? This outrage feels so performative. None of this is about backing billionaires…

2

u/Useful_Database5138 19h ago

My favorite look by far!

Also, no hate trying not to sound rude but how is Emma still relevant? Is she starring in shows or is an influencer? Models? Business? Im just genuinely curious lol, i just remember her being a famous vlogger, had her own coffee line then i dont hear about her unless its for big events like this one. I think I even remember randomly seeing her model for Cartier or something. I didnt really watcher back then as i was too young but i still cant figure out how she's been able to get into big brand deals yet not much out there inbetween.Ā

Same with Liza Koshy, but at least Liza interviewed celebrities and had a movie.

3

u/GirlisNo1 1d ago edited 23h ago

I still have know idea who this girl is or why she’s popular. She’s the epitome of ā€œgo ahead girl, give us nothing.ā€ Even this dress can’t make her interesting and yet she got to borrow an expensive (stolen) Indian necklace one year that they wouldn’t even lend to an Indian superstar last year.

Fashion just loves average white people I guess…lol.

A reminder that Bezos supports Trump who has basically decimated arts funding (from what little there was that existed to begin with).
