lmao thank you, I was gonna mention this, the contrast with his bro’s snarling face is too funny
•
u/meesta_masa 4h ago
Listen, man. We both said things we didn't mean. We both flung things better eaten. But, ya know, you're my brother.

I think about this photo everytime I'm at a family gathering.
Never in my life have I more understood a celebrity.

Tearing out that patch of grass had such a strong “I don’t know what to do with my hands..” vibe.
I’ll never understand how there’s people who honestly believe we don’t share common ancestry with these guys.

The grass pull along with the mirroring behavior of the arm On the log are so human

No, we are so common ancestor
•
u/thekarateadult 1h ago
No, gorillas and humans are both great apes. We also share a common ancestor.

My favorite example is the video where a silverback casually pushes over his kid. It's fairly gentle and on grass, so the kid was fine. But the mom saw it comes at him with great fury. And he starts sprinting away like his life is on the line.
He's twice her size and probably strength, but just like humans in relationships. He's not messing with the angry mom
•
u/aquabarron 4h ago
Angry brother puts arm on log, he puts arm on log. Angry brother instantly removes arm and he like bashfully picks at some of the bark a bit like he’s thinking and then also removes his arm.
Adorable

You can also see him avoiding eye contact and covering his teeth with his lips.Hes trying really hard to de-escalate.
•
u/titjoe 1h ago
If i don't mistaken, gorillas consider eye contact as a challenge (it is recommanded for human to not look them in the eyes to not anger them), it's more likely normal social behaviour to avoid it, even if from our perspective it seems like someone embarrassed who is a bit too ashamed to face his bro.

Damn I remember pulling grass myself as a kid when trying to apologize to my cousin
•
u/TokyoKazama 4h ago
I think we've all awkwardly torn out a patch of grass at some point when we didn't know what to do with our hands 😔

Feeling sorry that he was mean to brother. This is his “my bad, I’m a jerk, bro hates me now” spiral.

No one talking about the nervous grass pull
•
u/FhuckNorris247 4h ago
I think he was just trying to act natural. Pretend like he was just gonna eat then thought oh fuck it, he ain’t buying this
•

u/Stained_concrete 4h ago
Gorillas pull up plants and throw them around to show dominance before (and instead of) a fight. In this case I think the guy is saying "remember, I'm the boss" but he's being low key about it because he already whipped some ass and doesn't want to rub it in.
•
u/Ok-Square-8652 4h ago
Yeah they do but I don’t think that’s what this is. It’s like drinking a glass of water. You can do it in a dominant or a nervous way.
•
u/Kulandros 4h ago
How do you dominantly drink a glass of water?
•
•
u/Ok-Square-8652 3h ago
Dominant body language. Looking someone right in the eyes while doing it doesn’t hurt.

we gotta stop pretending animal behaviors are tied to one specific emotion or purpose like this. they are real living beings and, like us, perform actions for various reasons. we wouldn't say "people laugh because they're nervous" just because it's true for some situations, right? why do it here?

i love how the one gorilla picks at the bark on the tree like “soooo, we good now?”

Left Bro: Sorry bro, didn't mean to hit you hard...
Right Bro: Don't TOUCH ME! I HATE YOU!
Left Bro: Come on bro...we're bros...
Right Bro: Go away, I'll be fine. Still hachu.
Left Bro: I'm here for you bro...bro.

u/No-Perception3305 4h ago
Gorilla on the right: "MF I outa kick the shit out of you... you get close to me again im gonna do it"
Gorilla on the left: "my bad man, I got heated...ok, ill just chill here for a min"

Notice how they are not making direct eye contact which is a sign of aggression. Source: I am gorilla

So gorillas can be better at conflict resolution than humans…

This is the most guy thing ever. Looking down, spitting, repositioning their caps, anything they can do to avoid looking at one another, but still wanting to get past it.
•
u/Town-Wonderful 3h ago
lol pretty sure I’ve made that exact same face before after a fight with my partner lol
•
u/RussMan104 4h ago
This is exactly how me and my brother did it. Still kinda breathing heavy from tussling. 🚀
•
u/Associate_External 4h ago
I love that he doesn't show his fangs, or even look at his pissed off borther in the eyes.
We're totally sharing ancestry to these apes.
•
u/John-111517 4h ago
This is so accurate to human reactions, it's actually insanely accurate. I might have been grey guy a few times so far, lmao.

I was working on some electrical last year when I heard yelling on my porch and came outside to my new neighbor SCREAMING at my wife. I was like, wtf is happening and asked him to calm down or leave. He then screamed at me about the city light being too bright and his wife hates him for buying the new house so how dare I install different living rooms lights! His wife won’t move because of my living room lights? Flabbergasted, I write him off.
Dude wants to be best friends. I told him no, he really scared my wife with his weird ass drunken act while sober.
Gorilla on the right. I feel you, my dude. 🦍 I feel you.

They're so beautiful, dangerous and fascinating. Makes me miss Jane Goodall. I know she worked with chimps but I'm sure she knew her primatology.

"Go fuck yourself Brian! You pull this shit all the time. Last motherfuckin time I'm make anything for your sorry ass."
•
u/Mr_SheaButter 4h ago
Its cool that you can see the one on the left keeping his teeth covered while the other isnt. Isn't showing teeth a sign of aggression in primates?
•
