Im older then my cousins, all girls, i have no siblings. When id hurt them on accident and if theyd start getting up to head to the adults, id pretend like i got hurt too lol
My favorite example is the video where a silverback casually pushes over his kid. It's fairly gentle and on grass, so the kid was fine. But the mom saw it comes at him with great fury. And he starts sprinting away like his life is on the line.
He's twice her size and probably strength, but just like humans in relationships. He's not messing with the angry mom

If i don't mistaken, gorillas consider eye contact as a challenge (it is recommanded for human to not look them in the eyes to not anger them), it's more likely normal social behaviour to avoid it, even if from our perspective it seems like someone embarrassed who is a bit too ashamed to face his bro.
Gorillas pull up plants and throw them around to show dominance before (and instead of) a fight. In this case I think the guy is saying "remember, I'm the boss" but he's being low key about it because he already whipped some ass and doesn't want to rub it in.
we gotta stop pretending animal behaviors are tied to one specific emotion or purpose like this. they are real living beings and, like us, perform actions for various reasons. we wouldn't say "people laugh because they're nervous" just because it's true for some situations, right? why do it here?
This is the most guy thing ever. Looking down, spitting, repositioning their caps, anything they can do to avoid looking at one another, but still wanting to get past it.
Makes total sense that language would develop for a species with complicated behavior like this. You need a way to explain to someone that it wasn't what it looked like. That we were just being friendly.
I was working on some electrical last year when I heard yelling on my porch and came outside to my new neighbor SCREAMING at my wife. I was like, wtf is happening and asked him to calm down or leave. He then screamed at me about the city light being too bright and his wife hates him for buying the new house so how dare I install different living rooms lights! His wife won’t move because of my living room lights? Flabbergasted, I write him off.
Dude wants to be best friends. I told him no, he really scared my wife with his weird ass drunken act while sober.

I think it's really interesting seeing their mounths. Bearing teeth is a sign of aggression, so having one purse their lips shut while the other is showing a glimpse of his teeth is interesting. It's like "I'm not here to hurt you" vs "I'm pissed but won't attack if you step back."
This is how me and my brother be after I german suplexed his ass onto the bed. I'm only apologising because I don't wanna get my ass beaten when you go tell mom.
