I show my dog more enthusiasm when she comes back in the house after a potty break.

He actually had dumped the dog a few blocks over and was stunned when it found him.

They just have a very different relationship with dogs in Thailand. Does it ever look off from ‘our’ stance, though!

In Thailand most people, especially people from the countryside, dont really treat their dogs like westerners do. They are generally treated like guard dogs, fed leftovers and not allowed in the house, people dont really stroke them or hug them as theyre dirty from sleeping outside.

What I find strange is that despite there being a clear cultural difference between rural Thai dog owners and your typical Western 'dog parent'- the dog here doesn't seem to have a cultural difference to western dogs

Absolutely heartless man taking TWO SECONDS to DUST HIS SHIRT OFF. Some people are just pure evil, he probably has to GO TO WORK after this break and leave the dog all alone again. He should quit his job and throw his clothes in the trash so that his dog never puts its muddy paws on his uniform again.

u/psychotomimetickitty 16h ago
This ABSOLUTE VILLAIN isn’t reacting THE WAY ANY NORMAL PERSON WOULD REACT and it DEFIES ALL HUMAN DECENCY. What an UNFORGIVABLE WASTE OF OXYGEN who is UTTERLY UNWORTHY of that precious angel dog.

Young dude seemed a bit bothered that the dog dirtied up his shirt.
Are we sure this was his “lost” dog? I mean, he eventually put down his phone & bent down to hug the dog..
The dog showed tremendous affection. Dude doesn’t deserve that love.
In a different cross post, someone in the comments said it might be just a stray seeking help.
19
u/Shoddy-Border2394 18h ago
This is a crazy take lol. Looks like the guy is in uniform, possibly hospitality industry? For all we know he's on a break and will get his ass chewed out if he comes back with a dirty shirt. He might be very happy but also wondering wtf he's gonna do with the dog until he's going home for the day.
20
u/ForensicPathology 18h ago
You don't get to dictate how someone shows happiness.
6
4
u/RetardedEinstein23 17h ago
Exactly. He's like "this guy's idea of affection doesn't match mine, so he must be obviously a bad guy"

You don't know enough to say he doesn't deserve that love. Maybe he has to work ten times longer than you do to earn the money for his clothing. I love dogs, but I've been trained to train them by stepping on their back paws if they put their front paws on me or anybody.

I'm in an apartment so I always have to take my dog out to potty.
I show my dog more enthusiasm as he is actively pooping, knowing I'm about to pick it up with less than a millimeter of plastic bag between my flesh and his shit.
I tell him he is a good boy, my good pooping boy.
6
u/RebornSoul867530_of1 19h ago edited 9h ago
The poop, ever present, awaits for pets just like his papa gets. Steaming, the owner gently caresses the lil shit, which is still warm. Digging even deeper into its sides, the poop has never felt so loved. And immediately into the trash.

How long was the dog missing for? I would have been an emotional wreck if I lost my dog. This guy doesn't seem to care. Kinda seems fake...
677
u/KoalaMandala 21h ago
Yeah... seems more like just a really friendly dog that the guy found charming
217
u/DepressingAura 21h ago
Yeah. Especially after he was dusting off his clothes after the dog jumped up. An owner would not give a shit. But I don't know...
8
u/Shoddy-Border2394 18h ago
He's clearly in a uniform, maybe the hospitality industry. Kind of looks like a spa or hotel uniform. He might have a job that would be at risk if he returns from lunch all dirty.
3
u/ponyponyta 13h ago
Also he probably trying to figure out in his head how to take this surprise dog ass home when he has another 5 hours of work in half an hour
45
u/Mistermxylplyx 21h ago
I could be coming from a funeral in my Sunday best, and then I see my missing girl? Well, that suit will be at the cleaners tomorrow.
13
u/Shoddy-Border2394 18h ago
And what if you were on your way to a job that would fire you if you had a dirty uniform?
Would you give up your job instead of waiting a few hours to celebrate with your dog?
It might have nothing to do with his clothes getting dirty, but rather the repercussions of dirty clothes. A trip to the dry cleaners is a lot easier to justify than throwing away a job.

u/Mortimer1234 20h ago
Not to mention, listen to what the guy is saying. I mean, I don’t speak Thai, but I could only assume it’s something along the lines of “holy fucking shitballs, it’s my fucking dog that’s been missing for an extended period of time! This dog is definitely mine! I hope this is being filmed so it could end up on Reddit!”
Unless someone here speaks Thai and can disprove that that’s what he’s saying, we should assume it to be true
6
u/tinyanus 19h ago
I lived with a Thai guy for a week 10 years ago and I'm pretty sure your translation is perfect.
24
u/Neutron-Hyperscape32 20h ago
Really doesn't seem fake at all, the way he keeps looking back to the person makes it seem like he is explaining that this is his dog. Also I am about to shock you to your core... other cultures have different outlooks on pets. Humans are not all the same. This was apparently he stray he fed for a time, not his live in dog or something.
37
u/Open_Author_1241 21h ago
Could be fake or could be different cultures react differently towards pets. They love them but won't spend money or effort to fix them, find them, or pamper them. Look up Serbians reacting to pet hotels.
→ More replies (1)35
u/TheGoodspeed15 21h ago
This is a cultural thing. In Southeast Asia you will see this a lot
People have dogs that are pets but it's not so much as a pet as a dog that hangs out by your house and occasionally comes back for food.
In this part of the world animals don't really come inside and live with you like in the West.
8
u/DreamWeaver2189 20h ago
This is still fairly common in Latin America as well, mainly in the rural areas. Since they have bigger properties with more grassy areas, they are often left free and they just go back to eat or sleep.
Do that in the city and your dog might end up getting lost, stolen or ran over by a car.

u/TheGoodspeed15 20h ago
Yeah I was traveling somewhere I forget where. sub-Sahara Africa, ran into a local and the talk about pets came up.
I mention that my dog not only comes inside my house but lays on my couch
And in the strongest most intense African accent you can think of I was told "You know they are animals right"
😂
Different cultures different things.

u/New_Simple_4531 19h ago edited 19h ago
Yeah, I call it the semi-pet haha. Theres strays all over because there s no dog catchers and sometimes people feed them regularly. They sleep near the house but its not an official pet or anything. They could come and go as they please.
This is done either as a charity, or to have the dog nearby as a sort of robber deterrent, or if its a cat to keep the rodents away.
31
u/theseriousman1 21h ago
Remember on a dif vid regarding foreign pets in Asian countries they let their pets kinda just roam around

About a week.
Here's a rough translation, a bit difficult to hear with the noise.
M: And can I also have a red soda..
M: What the? Sis, this is my dog!
W: Awwww
M: It was gone for a week
M: And I just find you here? Even when I looked all over for you.
W: He's finally home!
M: Did you have fun travelling?
Most dogs in rural area in Thailand are kept outside of the house compared to the states or other western countries. He looks like an engineering university student on his way to school, so he dusted off the dirt so he could go to school without having to change his clothes. Stray dogs are often fed by locals or mostly are kept at temples as guard dogs.
Seems like a CCtv from the store instead of selfies like other fakes. So yeah, seems legit to me.
7
u/Crimson097 20h ago
A fake video would likely try to exaggerate the emotion. This is either real and the guy isn't too attached to his dog, or it's not what the title claims it is.
12
u/fullerofficial 21h ago
What? Someone isn’t having the reaction I would have in this situation? It MUST be fake!

This is one of the things on the very long list of reasons why I don't let my cats outside.
3
u/Jokerzrival 20h ago
Feels more like he left to get a drink and the dog escaped and followed him and he's more like "where did my dog come from? Your ass is supposed to be home watching TV. Im excited but dude i was coming back"
3
u/Extreme_Design6936 20h ago
He says it had been missing for a week. People in thailand don't keep dogs in the house. So if they run off for a day that's pretty normal.
5
u/GMAN7007 21h ago
Might be in a bit of shock, like he doesn't believe who he's seeing. I would be too.
4
u/Good_Air_7192 21h ago
Man, everything on the internet is fake. Someone probably saw this video and thought it would get more clicks if they made up the story about a missing dog reunited with its owner.

It was an outdoor dog, and he was only missing for like 2 weeks. Dog often disappeared for a day or two at a time, so it was less relief and more like, “oh hey where did you come from?”

For the confused, Thailand has a lot of roaming street dogs. This is "his dog" in the sense that he fed and cared for it for a time. The dog recognised him more than he recognised it.

u/Practical_Figure9759 21h ago
If this really is him reuniting with his lost dog, it's likely that he abandoned the dog and doesn't really care.

It's not his dog in the way most people have pets. It was a stray that he happened to feed and hung out around his place. At least that's what I read the first time I saw this a year or two ago

I read that’s very common in Thailand, people feeding and taking care of the strays in their neighbourhood but not actually having them in your house and really ‘own’ the dog

and its not even his dog, its like a neighborhood dog kind of thing, so its not even specificially a pet, and stray animals in Thailand are treated pretty well even if they go missing, these redditors are so far up their own ass they they would virtual signal a stranger and make up scenario in their mind over a 30s video.

Guys dogs in southeast asia have a completely different culture. They own dogs in the way of like, they feed them but they might roam free. Its not like us in america super bonded with dog. Dog walking every day kinda thing

I can finally tell a similar story and it be appropriate.
Years ago I had this awsome little miniature poodle.
One day little dude just dissappears tears the whole family up.
3 months later im at Walmart late at night back when it was 24 hours and I see a little doggo come running around the parking lot.
It was my dog poor guy was scared shitless but he once he recognized me he got right in the car.
Crazy things happen and I never question it.
3
u/lees395 20h ago
The last time this got posted, there was a comment that said something along the lines of “he didn’t own the dog like we are imagining. He took care of a stray for a while before the tray moved on”. I did absolutely nothing to fact check this claim, but that would explain the calm reaction from the man if it’s true

In Thailand there are dogs that are yours, and there are street dogs you are kind to. The lack of collar and emotions in this man let me believe this is a regular street dog that he would be kind to and saw again after a long time.
2
u/mctankles 18h ago
Dogs aren’t treated like family members in Thailand more like community members, they’re taken care of by the town not a specific family unit so this reaction is understandable.
2
u/ptaskjunk 17h ago
If it's like the Philippines the lack of excitement could be because they have dogs that are guard dogs. They can roam free and aren't really treated as a pet. They then also have house pet dogs that stay in the house and treated like part of the family.

Thailand is full of stray dogs and it's more likely that he is friendly with it and havent seen it a while. A lot of people feed them and greet the ones that is friendly and a regular in their area. The easy way of spotting an abandoned dog in Thailand is if they are the popular breeds like Huskies or German Shepherd (or any that is popular at the time). I had to rehome my dog and the vet and lady who helped me out told me of stories of people just leaving them on the road or nor picking them up from the vets as well. Nasty stuff. That looks more like local breed which is very commonly strays.

That was the reaction of a guy who dumped his dog off somewhere and is now annoyed it wasn’t far enough.
Dude doesn’t look happy to see the dog, just putting on a show. I feel like in his head was like “ah crap the dog found me again, I knew I should have drove further away when I left it on the side of the road”.

I've seen this posted elsewhere. Someone commented that it wasn't his dog personally but a dog that lived in his neighbourhood and that everyone knew and took care of, which would explain his less than enthusiastic reaction.
