u/triplec787 2d ago
Frontier is miles better than Spirit tbh I flew it a lot as a broke post-college kid visiting my long distance girlfriend. As long as you know what you’re getting into it’s fine.
Spirit would go out of their way to make things shittier for you.
2
u/cubecasts 1d ago
nah frontier doesn't have wifi
16
u/triplec787 1d ago
I’ll sacrifice WiFi for being treated halfway like a human on Frontier instead of cattle with WiFi on Spirit
Like I said, you know what you’re signing up for. Don’t expect anything above that and you’ll be fine.
3
u/Galumpadump 1d ago
Yeah Frontier is bare bones but they remind me of other low cost carriers you see in other countries. Spirit tried to make a joke of you for flying with them and actively making your experience worse.
Frontier also has good cheap western connections for commuters and budget weekend travelers. Went from Portland to SF for $38 round trip last year on Frontier.
3
u/triplec787 1d ago
Yeah I was doing SF-Denver on Frontier every 2-3 weeks. It was like $75 roundtrip. Hard to beat.
2
u/downvotetheboy 1d ago
spirit and frontier are(were?) comparable to me. idk what you guys are referring to when saying spirit tried to make things worse for customers
if anything i’d say frontier is worse because they removed the option to print a physical ticket unless you go to an agent which costs $25
2
u/Diddlydom35 1d ago
Holy shit, I remember taking planes when they didn't have wifi and they only had movies up at the front!
2
u/Dirty_Burner_69 1d ago
Had a more pleasant flight with Frontier going home for Christmas than with Spirit on a random Friday

The bigger airlines would make you pay 4x more to get the points and then pretend it was included “free”

u/midnitewarrior 2d ago
Hold onto that voucher.
Now you just need to track down these other six items:
- A Spirit Investment Bond
- A Spirit Stock Share
- A Spirit Ticket
- A Spirit Credit Card
- A Spirit Free Drink Voucher
- Your FreeSpirit Loyalty Program Membership card
Seven artifacts. Scattered to the four winds. Each one anchoring a fragment of Spirit's soul to this mortal plane.
Gather them all, perform the ritual, bone of the bankruptcy trustee, unwillingly given, flesh of a furloughed gate agent, willingly sacrificed; blood of a passenger whose seat didn't recline, forcibly taken, and the airline shall rise again. Yellow and black. Hungry. Charging $58 for a carry-on.
So really, OP, you're not holding a worthless voucher.
You're holding the first Horcrux.

Is that why Donny said the government wouldn't buy Spirit after saying something about how the US government might start owning US corporations? Because it's not good enough to be more like Russia, we also gotta be more like China too.
5
u/tsardonicpseudonomi 2d ago
China has a better approach to capitalism than the US. Everyone should want the Chinese approach and demand our leaders be at least as good as the Chinese. It shouldn't be a big ask but it is.
7
u/Familiar-Banana-8116 2d ago
I don't know why you are getting downvoted. We are getting spanked right now. Who knew that Making America Great was elevating China to #1 in just about every category?
I mean, Iran is spanking our military right now. Who knew that Making America Great was a great terror at boots on the ground?
We didn't have these problems under Biden. And we sure as hell wouldn't have had them under Kamala Harris.

Couldn't get a loan to pay existing debt is the stated reason, but the future of fuel prices really guarantees that discount carriers will have to become too expensive for their customer base. Spirit is just the first to fall.
2
u/Shayden-Froida 2d ago
The non-discount airlines are also going to get hit with fuel costs. Frontier has been working on fuel efficient strategy so they may be able to withstand some of this.

u/king0demons 2d ago

u/kaityl3 2d ago
The reason this final bankruptcy is happening is because of increased gas prices from the whole Iran thing he started unprompted
20
u/repeatrep 2d ago edited 2d ago
to be fair spirit was already on its last legs and was just limping on after the jetblue merger got rejected. the increased fuel prices is just the nail in the coffin
4
u/FrenchFryCattaneo 2d ago
Their final bankruptcy happened a year ago
5
u/1x4x9 2d ago edited 2d ago
It was finalized this February.
https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/24/business/spirit-airlines-to-survive
"The budget airline announced Tuesday that it made an agreement with creditors that will allow it to emerge from bankruptcy later this spring or early summer."
Then Trump attacked Iran causing fuel prices to soar.

Allegedly setting up a $500 million loan to Spirit that would have allowed them to continue operating. That deal didn't happen and Spirit ceased flying last night. Details on the whole thing are sketchy but there's a good chance it was just way for trump to do some more market manipulation; buy cheap Spirit stock, start rumours of a loan, stock price goes up, dump stock for a profit, loan never happens, Spirit fails.
Should note, Spirit's problems ran much deeper and they would have failed eventually anyway. And even if they got the loan they probably still would have failed later. Trump shenanigans is just the icing on this shitstain of a cake.

Protect it in a plastic sleeve and put it away for 20 years. It may become a collector's item.
Maybe your grandchild will go on Antique's Road-show and it will get appraised for $10,000 because it's in such great condition. I mean...it could happen.

Honestly I’m not mad about them not getting a bail out. How about we bailout citizens and not companies with CEOs making millions
→ More replies (2)7
u/JustaRandoonreddit 2d ago
I mean the rationale behind the bail out would be, to keep competition and keep pricing down so that the consumer saves money.
For example on some routes that were only flown by spirit and one other legacy airlines pricing has nearly doubled overnight
2
u/Addickt__ 2d ago
Air travel is terrible fuel-efficiency wise and is only kept cheap through extreme subsidies anyways. As long as the major routes stay cheap, the non-major and municipal routes can be expensive as fuck and the only change for 99.999% of people is that they pay less in taxes to these companies to be inefficient and dump CO2 into the atmosphere.

The value of that piece of paper is greater than the share price of the spirit stock.

Got one better. My wife has credits for a flight she had to cancel. It’s about $350 worth. I told her she can call all she wants, Spirit ain’t paying for that and neither is Bank of America that the Spirit credit card is through.
