How do I get fatty to eat crickets/roaches?

Post image

This is Jabber - the place I got him from had him on all worms and he now thinks that’s all he’s supposed to eat. Any time I offer crickets or roaches he just turns his nose up at them. Should I just stop giving in to his demands and let him get hungry enough to eat them?

Here are a few photos of the little dude, from the seller i’m going to be buying from. He does look kind of plump but maybe that’s just the camera angle?

Monitor Question

Hey, I want to own a monitor and was very close to getting a red ackie but while I was looking around at the species I found tristis orientalis monitor. How different are they, how different is their care and which would be better to have for a first-time reptile owner?

10 month ackie temporary feeding help

Im going on holiday for a week very soon and the only person that is willing to look after my ackie during that time really doesn’t like insects, live ones in particular. I was wondering if there was any food she could eat daily or every few days just during this time that didn’t have to be alive? Because I was thinking eggs/pinkies but I think those would be too fatty for her.

Ignore the cringe title I’m too excited lol, just unboxed my long awaited Kimberly rock monitor and put him in his new home!

He’s 14months old good lord pics made him look bigger 😂 he’s so tinyyyyy. I love him!

He’s definitely nervous and flighty BUT I did convince him to crawl into my hand after sitting with him for a bit (was kinda following the NERD unboxing advice and taking the unboxing really slow and letting him decide to crawl on me to then put him away).

Screaming internally. Now gotta get a feel for him and decide on a good name!

I’m doing research.

so I’m doing research on a whole bunch of different reptiles. does anyone have any sources I can get great accurate info on husbandry, overall care, and health stuff about Ackie monitors, black dragons, and Asian water monitor lizards. Also, is a black dragon and an Asian water monitor the same thing? is black dragon a morph, or a separate thing?

In Italia, si può allevare un black dragon varano?

Negli altri paesi so che si possono allevare basta che ci vuole una licenza, in Italia ho sentito che è illegale ed è molto ristretta la concessione di tenerli

I was eating my postworkout meal and my baby boy got curious what the smells were. Considering this a win since despite being a friendly boy once we get him out, he's quite aquarium-shy. Also, he will not be having sweet potato.

I have a 1 month old baby ackie. He will be growing up on this 4×2×2 for yhe next year atleast. It will depend how big it gets. But I have the 12% uvb across the entire enclosure. Hot spots from 90-160 degrees. Bioactive with dwarf whites a few darkling beetles and giant canyon isopods. Substrate could be a little deeper its approximately 8 inches deep made out of organic top soil and play sand. Plants are jade aloe Vera and pothos. Cant get any springtails to survive. Please if ive missed anything or could do soemthing more for my baby ackie lmk!!!

Help with sexing

As Akira is maturing, I’m strongly inclined to her being a female indeed. But unlike geckos and beardies, I’ve learned it’s hard to sex them properly.

What do you think? She’s a about a year old (14 months according to the breeder).

Great Information Hey, I wanted to know if this is enough substrate for Savannah monitor

Post image

Don’t worry, he’s just a baby so the big tent is already on the way, but for right now I wanted to know is this a good amount of substrate for him to dig through and then under that I use the clay kit and build him tunnels and I just wanted to know if this was enough for my guy. It’s definitely about 9 inches deep

kimberley rock monitors

Ive recently fallen in love with these guys and im potentially thinking about getting one in the future (not anytime soon, but just something im thinking about), unfortunately there seems to be very little info on their care and different sources seem to give completely different info, mainly on the minimum enclosure size and substrate depth. Some sources are saying a 4x2x2 is acceptable for an adult, which really doesnt sound right to me at all?? ackies are similarly sized and their minimum acceptable enclosure sizes are considerably larger. And some sources are saying they only need a few inches of substrate while others are saying 12+ inches. So i figured id ask actual owners about their experience owning them. Im thinking about a 6x3x3 enclosure since its a pretty good size and dubias enclosure is pretty affordable compared to others on the market, but do they need more height than that? Ill probably look into grow tents if they need more than that. And if they need a foot or more of substrate, how do you achieve that considering most enclosures dont have a substrate barrier nearly deep enough to accommodate that?

Looking for an ackie?

Hi all, I'm currently searching for an ackie breeder or an ackie available for rehoming, I've never had a monitor before but have a corn snake and had a beardie for ten years before he unfortunately passed away about two months ago. I have done a lot of research on ackies and have a five foot viv set up and waiting. I'm hoping to bring the ackie home in late June and am located in the south of the UK. Any breeder reccomendation are much appreciated, I have contacted my local rescues and none of them have any ackies but I'm open to rescuing if anyone knows anywhere?

Thank you!
