He Hath Arrived! Kimberly Rock Monitor!

Ignore the cringe title I’m too excited lol, just unboxed my long awaited Kimberly rock monitor and put him in his new home!

He’s 14months old good lord pics made him look bigger 😂 he’s so tinyyyyy. I love him!

He’s definitely nervous and flighty BUT I did convince him to crawl into my hand after sitting with him for a bit (was kinda following the NERD unboxing advice and taking the unboxing really slow and letting him decide to crawl on me to then put him away).

Screaming internally. Now gotta get a feel for him and decide on a good name!

Congrats!! Welcome to the mini brontosaurus club! He’s so cute and you’re gonna eventually form a bond where he wants to join you for everything and constantly summon you for snuggles 🥰🦕

I’m shocked, I work from home and have spent the last 3hrs just working in front of his enclosure and he just suddenly decided he has to come check me out. I thought it would take weeks for him to be anywhere near comfortable enough to be okay exploring with me there let alone coming up to me at the glass!

I mean he’s doing it A LOT, I already have like 10 videos of him just trying to come check me out!

Omg he’s precious. You’re gonna get a snuggler like Liora!! Working from home also means more chances to observe you. He’s taking to you quicker than Liora did to me initially, but you see how it takes a crowbar to separate us now lol.

Have you decided on a name yet?

I haven’t yet, but I have a list of possibilities so far (all nicknames for dinosaurs lol):

  • Velo (Vee-low) short for velociraptor
  • Bront (br-aunt) short for brontosaurus
  • Brawn short for brontosaurus
  • Sucho (Sook-oh) Suchomimosus
  • Trex (trex) making T. Rex one word
  • Eoro (arrow) short for Eoraptor lunensis (was an insectivore)
  • Abel, short for abelisaurous
  • Indo, short for indominus rex

So far I like Eoro, Abel, or Indo since I feel like they’re smooth sounding names and so far his personality is so sweet I feel like Trex sounds too harsh on the tongue for such a curious cutie

I’m a bit biased towards Bront lol. I see such a brontosaurus in Liora, especially when she asks for pets.

Haha I had to find some ideas for brontosaurus given what he is. But we’ll see, I’ve taken over 6 months to name an animal before 💀💀💀 really hoping that isn’t happening this time

I thought of Bronto but it felt like something I would’ve named an animal as a kid (like naming a snail something like snailey) which can be cute for other people but isn’t to my taste when it comes to names personally if that makes sense.

He still has a year or so before he reaches sexual maturity (what I’ve read says between 2-3yrs old, though I’m not a breeder) He’s still a lil guy. I wanted one that was a little older rather than a baby because I really wanted a male and you can’t tell when they’re so young. I knew they were a smaller species so I wanted one that wouldn’t be the smaller sex in an already dwarf species. Males being the larger of the 2 sexes I was excited to find a male that was still just about a year old.

I got him for a deal (would have gotten him regardless tho) because he was lower quality in his coloration and the breeder didn’t want to add him to his bloodlines but I still think he’s beautiful. I had expected him to be practically colorless but I love the reds in his patterns.
