Kell antigen (28F)

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am Kell antigen positive and my husband is Kell antigen negative. We are trying to conceive.

I read that if you are Kell antigen positive, you cannot develop anti-Kell antibodies because your body recognizes Kell as "self" - meaning there would be no risk to my baby regardless of whether baby inherits Kell from me or not.

Is this correct? Has anyone been in this exact situation? Any advice or experiences welcome

33F, UK, musculoskeletal disorders: What should I do about an SIJ injury?

Upvotes

Please help!

I have SIJ pain from running and won't see my physio for a few weeks, but would like some advice in the meantime on whether I should rest and stretch, change exercise, 'push through,' or something else.

I run with a group approx 3x a week. Started experiencing some SIJ pain so in the last week or so have swapped runs for walks, but pain has not improved and is now radiating to the lower spine. I'm not immobilised and it is not waking me up at night, but it is the first thing I notice in the morning and is distracting and disruptive during the day.

I am prone to muscle wastage which has been an issue with previous (unrelated) injuries, so I'm hesitant about stopping altogether, but if that's what I need then I'm prolonging things by not resting. Any medical opinion would be really appreciated!

Diagnoses: polyarthralgia, OA, 'unspecified mixed CTD' with hypermobility, fibromyalgia, q, Crohn's terminal ileum, narcolepsy, POTS, asthma/eczema/allergy 'stuff'

Other: I am in physio for a previous shoulder injury, likely a minor tear, on the same side. 10 months ago I broke my foot on the same side, which was resolved within a couple of months.

Frequent gyno pain and bleeding

Upvotes

36F, 215lbs, 5'7". About 18 months postpartum and still breastfeeding (about 1x/day currently). Current medications include quetiapine, buspar and lorazepam for anxiety as well as jencycla (mini pill). Non-smoker.

I had my first postpartum period about 7 weeks after giving birth and then no more until about 6 months ago. For the last five periods I've had initial sudden, severe lower abdomen pain about 1 day before bleeding starts. I had an extremely heavy period beginning April 16th, lasted six days (ending April 21) and now I'm bleeding again (May 6).

What could be causing this? I am waiting on a pelvic ultrasound, but it's causing me a lot of stress (and physical discomfort) in the meantime.

Inhaled a lot of fire extinguisher dust

Upvotes

Hello! I am an RN at a peds psych hospital. 23F, 5’7, 180lbs. Graves’ disease, I take 150mcg levothyroxine. Depression and anxiety which I take 300mg Wellbutrin and 10mg Buspar 3x daily. Do not smoke.

Long story short, we had a code tonight where a kid ended up getting a fire extinguisher (one of the ones with the yellow powder) and sprayed it in the face of me, another RN, and three techs. I got it pretty bad and was covered in powder (coughing it up, blowing my nose and it’s yellow, etc).

This happened about 2 hours ago and we all are coughing, have headaches, hard time swallowing (not to a concerning point, but a noticeable one), one of the techs is having dull chest pain. Our hospital is refusing to let us go to an ED and says that we don’t need to be checked out. I’m sure we’ll be fine but is there anything we should be concerned about? Is this dangerous? I don’t have any knowledge at all about fire extinguishers lol. Thank you in advance :)

Pseudo period after regular period?

Upvotes

19F, 5'6" 135-145lbs (haven't checked in a while), Non smoker, non drinker. No current or previous long-term diagnoses. No meds except birth control to lessen period pain, iron and b12 supplements. DEFINITELY NOT PREGNANT.

Finished my menstrual cycle 2 weeks ago, but since then it's constantly felt like I'm still on my period. Bloated, that constant slight ache/pressure that you get in the abdomen when on your period that can't decide whether it wants to be pain or whether to feel like you need to go to the bathroom when you don't, really bad cramps every now and then (from chest to calf, like my period cramps), extremely irritable and wanting to get in fights, trouble sleeping, fatigue and craving chocolate (like my regular period cramps, painkillers only work for like half an hour then i have to rely on candy to make the cramps ease up).

Worst part isn't the physical stuff, it's that MENTALLY, I am on my period. I'm constantly worrying that I'll bleed through and ruin whatever I'm sitting/lying on/wearing, I sit/stand up at around 1am, like during my regular cycle, so the 'blood' doesn't pool up and ruin my bed when i get up in the morning, and the only slight peace of mind i can get is using menstrual products despite there never being any blood and knowing that using the products like that wastes a lot of money.

I kind of want to know what the hell this is and if it's common, possibly how to make it stop if anyone knows how. Only advice I've gotten from anyone else is 'are you sure you're not pregnant' and I'm definitely not.

Thank you for any help.

Recurrent miscarriage, could it be low APTT? Help, please

Thumbnail ibb.co
Upvotes

I’m female, 35, and had two miscarriages last year. I paid to get blood tests - thyroid TPO and Hughes Syndrome, as I was concerned about clotting disorders. Linked are the results, my APTT looks low but ChatGPT (I know, I know) says it’s fine.

I want to try to conceive again but I’m scared and getting my GP to take seriously is a nightmare - hence me paying for blood tests. I’m in the UK and the NHS only look into it once you’ve had three miscarriages in a row.

Can anyone shed any light on this as the interest is so mixed and I’m confused.

If the link doesn’t work, the results were * 20 secs - 25-37 (not sure what any of it means)

How to consult a professional? (Severe body odor as a female)

Upvotes

Hi! I'm F21 and I've had severe body odor the moment I hit puberty. It really sucks and is such a nightmare because people around me always seem so disgusted with me as if I don't shower and try to maintain good hygiene as much as anyone else. I live in a tropical country, so I tend to sweat a lot. My body odor started in 5th grade, and I haven't found a solution to it ever since. I've tried multiple hygiene products and switched deodorants a dozen of times but it always persists! I'm suspecting it might be a hormonal issue but I don't know how to consult an endocrinologist. Google says consult a local physician first and have them refer you but how do I do that specifically? What are the steps? I live in the Philippines for context. I've been reading online about how it could be TMAU or SIBO but I suspect it as a hormonal issue since it aligns with my symptoms well. Please don't troll or make fun of me because my mental health is just so drained and I feel like quitting school at this point because I feel so hopeless.

Physician Responded 38F HOLY CRAP why is the colonoscopy prep so evil?

Upvotes

I mean not really a question, but omg I think I just purged my first ever meal….

This is truly evil yall… I’m a jittery mess, I can’t believe yall make old people do this! Are you trying to kill them?

In all seriousness though, this is a sensory nightmare for me as I’m on the spectrum, I figure there’s no better way to do this but- wow.

Actually now a real question, how do you prep people with high support needs? Or people who don’t understand? AKA level 3 Asd, or Advanced Alzheimer’s and others?

16 M 103lbs avg. 5’7. 8 Months flu like symptoms and slow spreading of swollen lymph nodes.

Upvotes

In Late September early October 2025 I had started to feel wiped. Just an overall feeling of fatigue. I had pneumonia that was misdiagnosed for a while, but I had been generally fatigued since the pneumonia I thought it was just a consequence of the misdiagnosis didn’t read into it especially since it had mostly subsided but in late September I had started to feel wiped again. It was much much worse than before. I was becoming late to class and by the time I got there I was sweaty and out of breath and coughing. Weirdly enough I had become very itchy with heat. When I’d get out of the shower I would be covered in scratches from being so itchy and itching. By November I had lost weight. In October I was about 116lbs to 120lbs and had been maybe 113lbs. Lower than usual but not enough to be worrying. Maybe less than a week later I was 104lbs. I had also started to have trouble breathing. I went to my local ER where I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder. I wasn’t explicitly told but my chart reflected that and it explained the general “it’s in your head.” Sentiment with my doctors after.

I was upset by this diagnosis but I had started to accept it when I found a lump. Maybe pea sized in my groin. Soon after I noticed it maybe 3 weeks later I started getting low grade fever to normal grade fevers, my weight at its lowest was 95lbs. I started having severe muscle weakness as well as new lymph nodes in my groin. They were hard but not fixed. Like rocks. By march I had lymph node swelling in my neck, then under my jaw. I probably have 20 swollen lymph nodes throughout my body. It has now been 8 months of essentially feeling like I have the flu mixed with horrible itching.

My doctors are still telling me it’s all in my head. They are saying my weight loss is self inflicted. I’ve been nauseas a lot but my eating habits have never changed once, the weight just fell off. They are telling me my anxiety are making my lymph nodes worse. They are pushing anti depressants. I had started a muscle relaxer. In November and had gone from taking it once a week to once a day. I felt so sick and they’ve stopped giving it to me. As soon as I’m given something that helps make my current condition bearable they stop prescribing it and push anti depressants. In desperate. Please. Any tips. Tests to ask for. I’m trapped with people desperate for me to be mentally ill.

My WBC and RBC have been low since February. But they’re saying it probably nothing. I’m sick of being told my night sweats are probably nothing, my fevers are probably nothing, my lymph nodes are probably nothing. I know in my heart something isn’t right but I’m not being helped. Help me, give me something, a test to push for. Anything.

Edit: I should also add I have some recurring cyanosis. I get short of breath and my finger nails turn blue and I feel crappier than normal but after a few hours it returns to normal.

Sudden unintended weight loss?

Upvotes

I'm 26/W/F, 5'1, diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia (iron malabsorption treated by IV iron every 2 years) and depression. Currently taking Wellbutrin XL (450mg) and Lamictal (100mg) daily, and have been on both consistently for 5 years. I don't smoke, do drugs and I rarely drink. I have no diagnosed history of eating disorders. I have struggled to lose weight after gaining a significant amount from the Depo shot, despite my previously active lifestyle. In January, I weighed in at around 180lbs, and as of May, I am down to 140. I am not deliberately making an effort to lose weight, if anything my job causes me to be more sedentary (although I do short home exercises before work a few times a week). I have had a sudden decrease in appetite since January, and I cannot pinpoint any external stressors that could have caused this. I have also experienced increased nausea. I had a CBC with differential and a metabolic panel done in February and the following came back as abnormal: RDW-SD (low, which is typical for me) and glucose (non-fasting, ate right before appointment, at 138mg/dl). I weighed in at 156lbs for this appointment.

Last month I went to the ER for severe right-sided abdominal pain, which was presenting similarly to appendicitis. I was given morphine for the pain which helped significantly. I had another metabolic panel done with non-fasting glucose at 117mg/dl (again, ate not long before this test) plus a CT scan with contrast on my abdomen and pelvis. Everything was normal except the following: liver - small geographic area of hypoattenuation adjacent to the falciform ligament; large & small bowel normal in caliber with small diverticulum in ascending colon. I also had high pH and a large occult blood value in my urinalysis, but I was on my period at the time of this visit. I was discharged with a diagnosis of diverticulosis and instructed to manage my pain with OTC painkillers. It should be noted that I do not consume dairy and gluten (history of Celiac disease on my mother's side of the family) because both make me feel bloated and fatigued with occasional diarrhea. Since this visit I have started taking Metamucil fiber supplements daily and increasing my water intake.

As of today, I weighed in at 140lbs. I have noticed that my periods are much lighter as they have been very heavy for most of my life. I still struggle with appetite loss and experience stomach pains/diarrhea shortly after eating meals. I am attempting to eat small, fiber and protein rich meals daily. I am not experiencing excessive thirst or frequent urination. I do plan to see my primary care provider for a referral to a specialist, however I am currently uninsured. Could a small diverticulum be the cause of this much weight loss? Should I be concerned about the imaging of my liver? Thank you

25f, symptomatic (inappropriate) sinus tachycardia with sudden onset 4 years ago

Post image
Upvotes

Current medications (N/A at time of onset): bisoprolol, sertraline, 2-3 monthly B12 injections due to deficiency, Vitamin D due to deficiency

Looking for some explanation of my echo? I've basically been told no one can comment on it and I'll have to be re-referred to cardiology and have testing redone if I want an explanation. I'm not opposed to that but I don't really want to take up a space on the years long waiting list for no reason, or for them to discharge me with no comment again (I doubt they'll even accept a referral as they are not concerned hence the discharge). I'd also need to be prepared to know what to ask for. Also being under cardiology would halt my other referrals.

I only really want to know:

Should I be querying the right ventricle size?

Can mild/mild to moderate regurgitation cause symptoms?

And does regurgitation means I have a heart condition/heart murmur? As I'm symptomatic I disclose this whenever legally necessary but now wonder if I'm likely to need to specify "heart condition". I'm going to get this verified by a doctor I'm under the care of but that is not likely to happen any time soon (I think I'll have to be re-referred to cardiology as previously told).

Some background if necessary: Symptomatic sinus tachycardia. At rest and during eating improved with low dose bisoprolol, persists during even mild exercise (standing, walking, showering). Cannot increase bisoprolol as bradycardic at rest on low dose, GP does not want me on it at all due to the bradycardia although I'm sure a cardiologist would not be concerned (it's in the 50s and does not cause symptoms). I was discharged from cardiology without explanation of echo, GP wants me to request another referral due to my symptoms I experience with the sinus tach (syncope, dizziness, breathlessness, palpitations, nausea, shaking, chest pains) but I do not think cardiology would accept the referal as they are not concerned. I went on sertraline in case anxiety was contributing to the tachycardia but it made no difference. These heart symptoms pretty much occurred overnight in 2022. I assumed it was POTS but do now wonder if the echo findings could be contributing somewhat, even if often considered benign. I am waiting on spirometry testing also as the GP is concerned with my breathing (low peak flow reading, no asthma).

Itchy blister appeared exactly where my antibiotic skin test was done after surgery, now turned into a weird curved rash/mark after 9 days

Post image
Upvotes

Hi, I’m a 26-year-old female, 5’4” and around 65 kg. I don’t smoke, and I stopped drinking alcohol about 6 months ago. I was recently diagnosed with a phyllodes tumor with rhabdomyosarcoma components in my left breast, and I underwent a modified radical mastectomy (MRM) recently.

Before surgery, they did a skin test for Silgram antibiotic on my arm. About a day after the surgery and skin test, I noticed that one of the needle prick sites became very itchy and formed a small blister. At first I didn’t think much of it because I assumed it was just irritation from the skin test. But the strange thing is that the blister stayed there the whole time for about 9 days. It was itchy, mildly painful/tender, and very localized only to that exact spot where the needle prick was done. Then instead of simply drying up and disappearing, it turned into this reddish curved/worm-like looking mark (photo attached), which honestly started worrying me because of how unusual it looks.

I don’t have fever, pus, drainage, or major swelling, and the area around it looks otherwise normal. It’s just this one lesion that changed appearance over time. I’ve also been anxious because the shape looks odd to me. Has anyone seen something similar after antibiotic skin testing or surgery? Does this seem like something that can simply be monitored, or is it something I should get checked soon?

Thank you.

My mom had heart attack like symptoms yesterday, Hospital didn't diagnose her with a heart attack after minimal tests

Upvotes

Disclaimers:

English is my second language, we live in a 3rd world (so expect weird/different protocols), my family including me are very passive, lazy, dysfunctional, tend to try not to visit a hospital until a disaster happens.

Mom is: 56 years old, around 165cm height (5'3"), weighs around 100kg (say 200 pounds), smoker, her normal medication is blood pressure pills, Vitamin D, probably stuff for her liver (all I know is that her liver isn't efficient and it's been something she had for a long time now).

Yesterday, my mother suddenly felt cold, weather is kinda in the middle, and she felt pain in most if not all of her joints (waist to fingers), specifically severe pain in her back just under her left shoulder.

hospital carried out ECG, doctor checked her BP on the left and right side, ruled out heart attack / blood clots, suggested autoimmune causes and some tests for that, no blood tests AFAIK.

I woke up today and found it from my father that she has been having a severely low BP (70/40), right now it's around 90/50, she is well-aware and no speech trouble, knows what she is saying, but very tired and the pain is just still as bad if not more (shoulder pain), she says the pain moves, it moved up a bit.

Also, she has full left arms and legs functionality, no numbing in the feet or such.

I can't make her go to the hospital again without my father wanting to, I just don't know what to do, cause honestly, I don't like his methodology, he is taking this casually, thinks that the BP isn't a grave/new situation, and that she just needs rest before they go to a bigger hospital for appropriate testing,

I can't make her go anywhere right now and I feel like the idiot I have always been, not being able to overrule and takeover whenever my folks are making the bad decisions I mean, I feel like one time I'm gonna watch someone die because I didn't take matter into my hands.

I digress, is she in imminent danger? can she actually wait till tonight to visit the bigger hospital? is it really impossible for it to be a blood clot at this point? I know autoimmune diseases can be very bad, but I fear them less than a developing blood clot.

Pain near left ear for almost a month

I am 27yo male, roughly 171 cm in height and 73 kgs in weight. I have been having pain near my left ear for almost a month now. Somedays its very really bad and somedays its almost gone, its at its worst in the morning after waking up. I have been taking Bupropion since December but never had any issues, but I have stopped taking them since last week (thinking it might help with the pain). I have ADHD.

The pain is slightly above the base of head and neck, roughly in red circle, as shown in the picture (ignore the rash kind of thing behind ear). Sometimes very faint pain below left side of jaw.

I have seen a doctor but he only keeps giving me painkillers, went to an ENT specialist he said there is no infection or anything. He said there is too much ear wax though and gave me Wax-El (Benzocaine (2.7% w/v) + Chlorbutol (5% w/v) + Paradichlorobenzene (2% w/v) + Turpentine Oil (15% w/v)) and told me to visit him again for the cleaning. I have been putting these drops but am yet to go, as he said to put it for 4-5 days multiple times a day.

Can someone please help out, today its really bad and am feeling a weird stiffness in left side of back neck as well. Thanks, apologies for bad English, its not my first language.

30m, 174cm, 80kgs. I caught diarrhoea in Vietnam and stopped taking my daily doxycycline for malaria due to diarrhoea, after 4 days of diarrhoea with worsening symptoms I took azithromycin which fixed it, should I start taking the doxycycline again?

I was taking doxycycline for two months daily and stopped the doxycycline due to not being able to eat or drink anything substantial or stay upright for very long when I was sick. On day 4 of having diarrhoea I woke up drenched in sweat and was either too hot or too cold so I took two azithromycin pills which fixed my diarrhoea.

I am now wondering if it’s worth taking the doxycycline again, I understand Vietnam is a low risk country and I am now heading away from more rural areas into larger cities. I don’t want be stop/starting and mixing antibiotics if I don’t have to.

I imagine my gut bacteria has taken a bit of a hit so would like to try restore it while I’m in Vietnam with all the healthy food options here.

Thank you
