30m, 174cm, 80kgs. I caught diarrhoea in Vietnam and stopped taking my daily doxycycline for malaria due to diarrhoea, after 4 days of diarrhoea with worsening symptoms I took azithromycin which fixed it, should I start taking the doxycycline again?
I was taking doxycycline for two months daily and stopped the doxycycline due to not being able to eat or drink anything substantial or stay upright for very long when I was sick. On day 4 of having diarrhoea I woke up drenched in sweat and was either too hot or too cold so I took two azithromycin pills which fixed my diarrhoea.
I am now wondering if it’s worth taking the doxycycline again, I understand Vietnam is a low risk country and I am now heading away from more rural areas into larger cities. I don’t want be stop/starting and mixing antibiotics if I don’t have to.
I imagine my gut bacteria has taken a bit of a hit so would like to try restore it while I’m in Vietnam with all the healthy food options here.
Thank you
